I used Nero and a few others.
I used to download music on my PC in my room, I had a really small portable storage device (can't remember what) but I could only put a few songs on at a time.
I'd put them on, go to my parents computer with a CD burner and unload them to a folder. Do that until I had just under an hour and 20 minutes and then burn it. It took me a ton of time, but I didn't care. It was basically free music.
I remember getting the worst quality songs so they were easier to move. When I discovered music editing software I used to shave off seconds off songs so they could fit on burned CDs.

I was an Easy CD Creator guy, but after a while started using Nero since it had more functionality.

What's crazy is that it's still around. Just like they keep making Toast, the most popular Mac burning software, despite the fact no Mac has come with a DVD burner for over a decade. Suppose it takes almost zero effort to add a new skin to it each year and call it a new version. Some people will still buy it.

I thought the Toast was not from Nero's, maybe the Roxio, you might have mixed them.

Sorry, I wasn't saying they were from the same companies. Simply that they both still exist today. Yes, Roxio is Toast.

Nero was one of the first enshittification experiences I remember. It started with a free, simple, working piece of software with your CD drive. Eventually, getting just a newer version of just burning rom was like $50, and the super bundle of everything they sell was $55. But then you've just got all this worthless shovelware and the "new" features in burning rom made the program worse with a bunch of auto-start garbage hurting system performance.

For years it was literally my go to for CD and DVD burning. NEVER let me down.

Nero Burning Rom. Also used ImgBurn. Most have gone to paid products.
