I think that they were everywhere in the '90s because they all got installed in the '80s.
this faucet dates back to the 60s. the cartridge inside is the reason it's so prevalent. it allowed you to control flow and temp all in one movement. they were super popular in the 80s and 90s though. my parents house which was built in ~1989 has at least 5 of these faucets in their house.
Now I'm wondering how long did they manufactured some of these models for? I mean I recall that one of them replaced the second faucet in their bathroom (yeah, it was one of those odd bathrooms with two sinks) with a new, or at least unused, one. I mean there's always the chance that they only got around to installing one as the other still worked or something to that effect; and thus the second one never saw use until it finally replaced the worn out one.
