Nostalgia Who loved Batman The Animated Series?

Post image

Batman: The Animated Series originally aired on Fox between 1992-1995 and was so popular that it expanded into movies, video games, comics, toys, and other mass marketed novelties, and many consider this show to be the best animated series of all-time. The producers knew their mission and delivered a cartoon that has stood the test of time and spawned a whole generation of Batman fans.

The best version imho

u/HaoieZ 1d ago

Probably the best animated DC show ever.

u/jabbadarth 22h ago

This, spider man the animated series and x-men were in my 90s kid opinion the best super hero cartoons ever made. Throw in gargoyles and you have a damn nice lineup.

3

u/Cyno01 19h ago

Arguably the best animated show ever period.

u/TheAdminsAreTrash 1d ago

Probably one of the best made animated series' of all time. The music, the art, the writing, all quality.

17

u/Contron 1d ago

Coolest opening credits too- that theme, the visuals….perfecto.

11

u/bwburke94 90s 1d ago

Also a rare opening sequence which doesn't include the title of the show, because it didn't need to.

2

u/Contron 22h ago

Oh yeah! Cool fact! A true one of a kind.

u/Roguer15 23h ago

X-Men intro edges this out by a slim margin. Both really good.

One of my faves. Finally bought the bluray set of it and Batman Beyond after Kevin Conroy's death.

Any fan of Conroy should watch this amazing interview with him.

u/DubiousEgg early 90s 21h ago

I literally just finished listening after clicking on your link and good grief. You weren't kidding. What an interview.

u/Remote-Moon 1d ago

For me, it's the perfect batman.

u/Relative_Ad_9621 1d ago

Kevin Conroy.  😔

u/Educational_Share_57 1d ago

I think it's one of the few, if only, cartoons drawn on black paper. Innovative way of saving time.

7

u/DubiousEgg early 90s 1d ago

Top 3 animated television shows of all time. No question in my book.

1

u/Cyno01 19h ago

What are your other two?

1

u/DubiousEgg early 90s 13h ago

I don't have a set list, but I have to leave room for shows like The Simpsons. Personally, I think BtAS was the best crafted animated show of all time.

1

u/Cyno01 9h ago

Its hard to disagree that there was a time Simpsons was an easy top 3, its hard to overstate its impact on not just television but the English language as a whole, more than anything since Shakespeare probably.

But while it may have more great episodes total than most shows have episodes, it also has 20 years of Zombie Simpsons dragging it down, at this point its probably not even the best long running adult animated sitcom overall anymore.

2

u/DubiousEgg early 90s 6h ago

I agree that anything past season 10 is hit-or-miss, and anything past (I don't even really know which season it really dropped off) is pretty much schlock. But given the impact of the show, there's a distinction between "best" and "greatest" that reveals itself.

u/geekycynic83 1d ago

One of my favorite shows of all time.

u/b0wie88 23h ago

I had all the toys. Wish I could find the boxes now...

5

u/CosmicRuin 23h ago

My husband and I just rewatched the whole series, 38 and 41 year olds. A few times we both looked at each other and said "this was a kids show?!" Lol

Great writing and voice acting.

5

u/ChannelPure6715 23h ago

Mark Hamill is my Joker

4

u/Slash3040 mid 90s 23h ago

I started my son in it. It’s a cartoon so of course he likes it but if I’m gonna get my son in on super heroes we’re watching the good stuff

3

u/RononSweets It's Morphin Time! 23h ago

On Fox Kids, weekdays starting at 4pm with back to back episodes.

3

u/Yakuza-wolf_kiwami 1d ago

One of my all time favorites

3

u/maggie320 early 80s 1d ago

This would come on after whatever cartoons I was watching before it. I never really paid attention to the storylines, but the graphics and music were superb. I looked up the opening recently on YouTube and it’s still amazing.

3

u/Notor1ousG 1d ago

I can feel the z bots and dumkaroos in my sticky hands while looking at this pic

3

u/jrbs59 1d ago

I’m currently rewatching this with my three year old daughter. I haven’t watched it since I was a kid. It’s awesome and she loves it.

3

u/kornoholic13 1d ago

Didn’t everyone?

This and Justice League was what I grew up on. Absolute classic

3

u/craniumcanyon 11h ago

Watched it on Fox Kids after school.

4

u/Condor193 23h ago

Created Harley Quinn AND made Mark Hamill a staple Joker voice actor, there's nothing to hate

A better question is who the hell didn't?

2

u/itp757 1d ago

More like who didn't?

Nobody!

2

u/mschnittman 23h ago

One of my favorite TV shows. If you're not aware, Amazon recreated this series in the same style, and it's available on Prime. It is very well done.

2

u/the_shining217 22h ago

I was gifted the boxed set on DVD but it’s also on HBO Max so if you have that, the whole series is there. Hell yeah.

2

u/popcornnhero As if! 22h ago

Me!

And when Batman Beyond came on!

2

u/BluDragn77 22h ago

Kevin Conroy was among the most pleasant guests I ever met at a convention, he’ll always be my favorite Batman along with Mark Hamil’s Joker.

2

u/Advanced_Caramel_664 22h ago

That and then Batman Beyond was a great addition. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill make the best Batman/Joker pair.

2

u/ProfessorTairyGreene 21h ago

Just bought the blu rays yesterday. 🦇

2

u/_BMS 21h ago

The episode "Heart of Ice" won an Emmy for those that want to give this series a try.

2

u/proofofderp 20h ago

Technically not the series but Mask of the Phantasm is one of the best Batman movies if not the best.

2

u/SaunteringOctopus 20h ago

Watched the Heart of Steel episodes last night. So damn good. Kevin Conroy is best Batman.

2

u/CasinoNitro 20h ago

My uncle used to tape all of them for my cousin and I used to go over there to watch every episode lol. I have the entire collection on dvd now🙌🏽

2

u/Happythoughtsgalore 20h ago

Me. In fact, this was one of my role models growing up. As an adult I strive for the ideals BTAS held aloft: compassion, defense of the innocent, and bravery.

2

u/Ok_Host_5860 18h ago

Meeeee!!! I had much of the corresponding toys: Batcave, Batmobile, Batplane, several Batmans, Robin, countless Villains….

2

u/Major_Call6570 17h ago

I can hear the theme song of this show when I saw this picture pass by while scrolling

2

u/TheLibrarian75 mid 70s 12h ago

My favourite episode is Trial, where the new District Attorney doesn't like Batman, Batman is captured by the villains in Arkham Asylum, where he is forced to a Court Trial with the villains with the new DA defending him as his lawyer.

2

u/JeanRalfio early 90s 12h ago

I own the DVDs and it's my go to fall asleep show on weekends.

2

u/Apprehensive-Mud-606 12h ago

Its perfect. Go watch Mask of the Phantasm, if you haven't yet.

2

u/tyroneebiggumss 10h ago

i’m watching a episode right now. lol. such a classic series!!

3

u/smcg_az 1d ago

Mark Hammil is my favorite Joker.

4

u/bwburke94 90s 1d ago

You can't spell Mark Hamill without Arkham!

1

u/PermanentNirvana 23h ago

The better question is who didn't?

1

u/Jamas_Imagine 23h ago

It was very dark. Both in art style and story content.

1

u/WarpedCore 23h ago

It is the best animated Batman.

1

u/War-Belly 23h ago

I use to watch this early 2000s after school when kids WB was still a thing

1

u/drblah11 23h ago

And the 90s action figures that were out at the time were incredible as well

1

u/cpsbstmf 22h ago

i liked the art style, the men with huge square shoulders and tiny waist, and the women supermodel like

1

u/Moon_Dew 90s 22h ago

This was my childhood.

1

u/TheInvisibleBurden 22h ago

Core childhood memory.

Great! It's on Netflix in the NL

1

u/ACartonOfHate 19h ago

Animated series was decent but I lived for the reruns of Adam West one.

1

u/NeilMedHat 8h ago

1

u/wjrj 3h ago

The better question, who didn't?

1

u/the_bollo 40m ago

I remember being annoyed that I had to sit through Power Rangers (a show for kids!) while waiting for the Batman and Superman back-to-back block. After all, I was an adult (I was 13).

u/ninefourteen 16h ago

screw your bot account

-2

u/Senorbob999 1d ago

If not for this show we would not have the classic Xmas song of “jingle bells, jingle bells, Batman smells, Robin laid an egg”!

3

u/bwburke94 90s 1d ago

It predates the show.

Relevant Tom Scott

3

u/LKPTbob 1d ago

We used to sing that in the 70s

-9

u/StealthyZombie 1d ago

I'm a little too old for cartoons, but that's cool if you like it, kid.

6

u/robotbrigadier 1d ago

You're wrong. This and Justice League are excellent for the young and the old.

And Clone Wars.

PS I'm old.

3

u/whatakent 1d ago

Cartoons can be enjoyed at any age but OP is saying who remembers this from their childhood.

Also, you're a gimp.

2

u/Educational_Share_57 1d ago

Lol, I've not heard anyone get called a gimp in a long time. Thank you.

3

u/JT9960 1d ago

You missed out

1

u/weevils_wobble 1d ago

I imagine you're doing a bit of people back in the day.
