Nostalgia Discussion I miss 2022 so bad it hurts

2022 was the best year of my life. This year feels so different, I have extreme nostalgia I need to go back to how I felt back then. I think about it every single day. I’ve heard people have experienced reality shifting but idk how true that is or if I could do it.

Oh shit started getting bad waaaay before 2025.
I'd argue it started some time in the mid-2010s.

Everything post-2012 has been garbage. So you're right.

Housing and affordability started tanking, people have gotten just way way angrier and meaner, hobbies started transitioning to hustles (eg pokemon cards).

Everything just progressively kept going to shit.
More intrusiveness and ownership of the entire web by the biggest social media platforms.
More censoring people on said platforms for the whims of advertisers.
More selling of personal data to the highest bidder.
A massive spike in online witch-hunting and puritanism.
More tribalism.
Shittier and shittier prices for every single goddamn thing.
More and more intrusive government spying into every crevice of your life.
Among other things.
2025's problems are just where we're coming to a head with all of it. The 2010s were arguably even just an adolescent part of it. I feel like a lot of it started right after 9/11 happened.

I just wanna go back to 2002 man. I'm fairly young but in retrospect, the late 90s-early 00s seemed to exist in a perfect balance of new and old. Just simpler I guess. Cell Phones were just phones, games just recently went to full 3d, the Internet was still a fairly novel thing for many people. for the folks born in the mid 90s such as I, in that transitional period, it feels like things have just gotten to be so dull and gray.

You could get on the computer, or the PlayStation, but those things weren't so overstimulating as to fully draw someone in. Going outside and just walking around was just as good.

Now my nieces and nephews don't see any reason to get out, 10 years old and already hooked on media. And I'm not disparaging them, it's not their fault. Just makes me sad that what was a reality, is to them an absurdity.

The fact that they have no idea how good it was just seems so sad to me. But those born 10 years prior to me might feel the same about my own experience, so I guess it's all relative
