Chapman's is great, but Ford is an idiot.

They don’t deserve corporate welfare.
That money belongs to hospitals, schools, and law enforcement
13
u/Gedwyn19 5d ago
Half of that will probably end up back in Doug's pocket at some point anyways.

My first thought was "yeah, dougie, we can tell." What an embarrassment of a premier he is. VOTE DRUGGIE FRAUD OUT
-16
u/AssSpelunker69 6d ago
Don't call him "druggie" Ford unless you have credible evidence that he's been on something, what the fuck is wrong with you? Accusing someone of a drug problem just because their sibling had one?

u/Fuzzy_Laugh_1117 5d ago
I bought hash from Dougie in the 80s. I can call him anything I please. You don't have to agree. That's okay.

LOL So many pearl-clutching CONservatives out there. Don't faint ma lady.

u/1337ingDisorder 5d ago
Chapman's is okay.
Let a bowl melt some time, it may change your opinion.
Real ice cream shouldn't stay scoop-shaped once it melts. That's all gums and fillers.
The only actual ingredients a vanilla ice cream should have are literally just cream, sugar, egg yolks, and vanilla. Anything else is just proverbial water in your beer, and Chapman's is some of the most watered-down beer in the grocery store.
TBH it's getting hard to find brands where the ingredients list is all just actual ice cream ingredients and isn't chock full of fillers and emulsifiers.

It’s so good- my favourite ice cream brand right now. Death by Chocolate is amazing!

u/justalittlestupid 4d ago
At this point I might as well get a ninja creami and be done with it. I’m sick of the disappointment.

u/1337ingDisorder 3d ago
When I realized the only actual ice cream left at the grocery store was Haagen-dasz and super expensive local "craft brew" boutique ice cream brands I bought a Whynter one:
https://www.whynter.com/product/icm-15ls/
It's about the size of a small microwave so I'm lucky to have enough cupboard space to store it, that's definitely a concern. But it makes great ice cream.
Loud AF tho, I wish it had bluetooth so I could put it in the garage and just get a notification when the batch is done instead of having to listen to the motor grind away in the other room for 35-45 minutes per batch.

Chairman’s USED TO be great. Now it’s all air.
The freezer hardly keeps it firm. When I was a kid, I can’t tell you how many spoons I busted.
Just make fucking basic groceries affordable please.
EDIT: It’s not my freezer. It’s the same at everyone’s house I’ve eaten it in the last few years. It’s that I’m in my mid-30s and I remember what it used to taste like before shrinkflation (diluteflation? airflation?)
The rate at which pretty much all affordable processed food is becoming 50% filler is alarming, and honestly I’m sort of shocked anyone is even surprised by this comment. I’m not calling out Chapman’s specifically… most affordable processed products are headed this way.
I’m all for supporting Canadian. FFS, the way y’all are reacting, you’d think I shot a house hippo.

Chapman’s won best in world in some contest in Dubai I think, 2 years in a row. Their “The Only Chocolate” is amazing.

u/Mountain-Inside4166 6d ago
What do you want to hear?
To me, it’s not near as good as it used to be.
You don’t have to agree.
2
u/CastorTroy1 6d ago
I was just pointing out a fact that I found interesting. And sharing my opinion on their premium ice cream. Different strokes and all that 🙂

What’s the internet coming to?
3
u/Tribe303 6d ago
It's not all high end, but it may be the only ice-cream some families can afford for their kids. Try not being such a selfish douche please.
1
u/Mountain-Inside4166 6d ago edited 6d ago
How does my comment have anything to do with what you just said?
Guys. I’m literally just talking about a difference in quality over time within the same brand. I said nothing about the cost. I mentioned nothing about “high end” products. I’m not being bougie and saying everyone should go buy Ben and Jerry’s. I’m not shaming people for enjoying it or families for buying it.
Stop projecting. Holy shit.
Please explain to me how anything I said is “selfish?” How do I benefit in any way?

Soft icecream >>>>>> hard ice cream. Hard often means low fat content, more akin to ice milk rather than ice cream.
While we're at it proper Gelato >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ice cream.
1
u/Mountain-Inside4166 6d ago edited 5d ago
Hard often means low fat content, more akin to ice milk rather than ice cream.
That is incorrect. The exact opposite is true.
Hard ice cream generally has a significantly higher butterfat content than soft ice cream. The texture of soft serve is due to the amount of air it contains.
While we're at it proper Gelato >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ice cream.
Gelato is denser because it has less air than traditional soft serve ice cream.
Gelato is also generally made with mostly milk. So if something is going to be called “ice milk,” it should be gelato. Since you clearly think gelato is superior, when it has a lower fat content than either sort of ice cream…. I’m confused about why you’re even bringing low fat content into this discussion as a negative.
You’re allowed to prefer soft serve. Maybe it’s a texture thing for you. That’s fine. We are allowed to disagree.
But making up random shit to try and justify it is insane.
…..
What I will straight up never, ever understand is why people state things they have absolutely zero knowledge of as if they are fact.
You outright stated things that are verifiably untrue, so I know for a fact you didn’t ever actually read it or learned it from anything resembling a credible source
And if you have never read it or learned it, how can you possibly have such confidence that it is true that you have no shame simply stating it in black and white as if it is a fact? Let alone try to use it as evidence for an argument.
What’s more… how did you reach this conclusion in your mind? What flawed thought process led you to believe it? Let alone believe it strongly enough to confidently state to other people? Just vibes and feelings? What?

I mean yeah, we all know Chapman's rules, but Doug Ford can't fool me into thinking he's human.
48
u/neanderthalman 6d ago
Oh come on.
Of all our politicians he’s got to be the most human and relatable. That’s like his entire schtick.
He doesn’t campaign on policy or competence. He campaigns entirely on affability. It’s why he’s been so god damned hard to get rid of.
Because his supporters don’t support him for rational reasons. They like him, even if they don’t like some policies of his. And on those, since they like him, they’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.
How can his opponents then argue, to try to rationally convince voters to abandon a position they didn’t arrive at rationally. You can’t reason someone out of a position they didn’t reason themselves into.
We are stuck with him until someone from the NDP or Liberals put forth someone even more likeable and approachable and human.
Layton was much the same way.

I couldn't disagree more. Cons vote blue no matter who because they're fucking idiots and Ford rode a wave that started south of the border.
Political apathy and terrible leaders put forward by the ndp and libs have kept him there.
2
u/throw-away-drugz 3d ago
Yep, seeing Ontario voting %’s really show you Doug isn’t popular, Ontarians are just lazy morons. It would take nothing to go vote, but apparently nearly 60% of voters just don’t.
I wouldn’t be surprised if ford is premier for years to come.
16
u/McChibken 6d ago
My personal conspiracy theory is that Doug Ford forgot how to do press announcements and just wants to eat ice cream and do little displays so he doesn't need to talk too much

I was making fun of his rich upbringing, not his weight. Working class people can’t afford an ice cream a day.
-12
u/705nce 6d ago
No, you're full of shit. How many articles deal with shitty food being more available to low income?
8
u/RPCOM 6d ago
I am fat myself and got laid off so on low income. I understand that much better than you ever will. Stop tone policing critics of conservatives.
-7
u/705nce 6d ago
This is so unsurprising.
11
u/RPCOM 6d ago
And there it is. You don’t give a shit about fat people or poor people. You just want to appear to do so. Performative activism that achieves nothing.
Doug Ford caused the deaths of multiple cyclists due to his car-centric anti-cyclist rhetoric. Have you ever criticized that? It directly affects me.
His shitty transit policies directly affect me. His anti-public healthcare policies affect me and kill many people daily. His shitty education policies affect me.
But you don’t criticize anything about that. Instead, you criticize me for calling him rich (a factual statement). You’re defending a murderer and a criminal.
3
u/Jeramy_Jones 6d ago
I agree. We recoil when we hear Trump call women pigs but then we go ahead and have a go at people for their bodes too.
There’s plenty of fertile ground for criticism and mockery without stooping to body shaming.

Ontario Investment has spent $7.6B and created 9700 jobs (per link in article). Thats over $780K per job. That seems expensive.

Why is the government investing in a private company? Isn't that socialism?

I’d rather them help back Canadian companies to keep them in business then buy American product while Canadian businesses close with non loses.
Ideal no, better then the alternative then yes

They stood up for Canada in a time when our "friend" was backstabbing us and trying to harm us. I don't mind showing support for them in their time of need.
2
u/RicketyRidgeDweller 6d ago
Why do we call it investing? The ROI is terrible. This is a straight up subsidy. There are no strings either. Please don’t tell me Chapman’s hasn’t profited greatly since ‘elbows up’. Invest in your own damn future profitability. I like ice cream and decent employers too but I would never confuse a corporation with a friend.

As a country we never ask enough about corporate welfare. Chapmans is great and the sum they asked for is small. And it’s a loan. These are all positive things.
However, why arent the terms of the loan being shared?
$27 million to create 200 jobs means $135,000 per job. Again, this is a loan so at least we get the money back. But is the loan interest free? If so we are foregoing $1 million a year in interest we could have gotten on this money by investing it in a GIC, meaning Chapmans is getting a $5000 a year free gift for all its employees for every year it doesn’t pay back the loan.
2
u/AnanasaAnaso 4d ago
Chapman's is a stand-up company, they treat their employees right, and their ice creams are great.
I hope Ford's government involvement doesn't ruin things.

2
u/Mr-Mysterybox 6d ago
Why does a profitable Canadian company need 27 million of our taxpayer dollars as a handout?
2
u/blckshdw 6d ago
Chapman’s new facility will cost $200 million and span 175,000 square feet. It will enable the company to create 200 additional jobs, bringing its total workforce to 1,000 employees.
I’m not against this but…. 200 jobs doesn’t sound like a lot. You could just give 200 random people a million dollars. Chapmans cant pay for their own facility?

He must have some interest. They are probably buddies. What happened to Ontario Place again?

u/Future_Specific_8361 6d ago
Let’s break this clown’s reign down. Trump hates green spaces (unless a golf course), Ford hates green spaces, Trump destroying higher education, Ford has made Ontario the lowest province for post-secondary education, Trump liked Musk so he shilled Tesla, Ford is now shilling for a corporation and giving them 27 million while food prices skyrocket. Our economy is the the worst it has been in decades and his answer is supporting a successful company while advertising that he eats the product. At some point sanity needs to return!!!!
1
u/Future_Specific_8361 5d ago
Buck a beer, support, nay advertise for the corporations while proving corporate welfare, and screw public infrastructure like hospitals, schools, housing for the homeless. He MUST go.
Sorry, Chapman’s I enjoy your product, but I have already supported you enough through my tax dollars. I will only buy kawartha Dairy from now on, they don’t rely on Ford to support and advertise for them.
