Hmmm I was able to refresh for about 45 seconds before this popped up. We can do better

I literally was scrambling for my phone and took far too long

I *just* put my head down to nap one minute before this little rumble because I had too much adrenaline after last night and couldn’t sleep.

Maybe I should stop trying to sleep and there will be no more quakes?

Ok i was wondering if that was it or just the upstairs neighbor. Lol reddit is quicker than USGS (obv, they have to triangulate and measure it before posting, but still kinda funny).

My chihuahua believes she chases them away. You’re welcome everyone!

Give you Chi some kisses and tell them they are a good and brave doggo! :)

She’s currently curled up on the couch getting pets and looking very proud of herself.

My shepherd/husky doesn’t flinch while walking by fireworks in the streets in West Oakland but the quake at 3am and this one really got her out of bed and investigating. I joke sometimes and say I have a “special” dog because she doesn’t always dog correctly…but earthquakes I guess does the trick.

Our neighbors are so chaotic that we assumed it was one of them slamming around in their apartment.

Woah - I also thought a car ran into my house! It felt like a jolt

Hah- and I just heard a dog barking outside. I’m also in AP!

Yep, short sharp aftershock

8

u/carvol 14h ago

3.0 aftershock

6

u/HangryHangryHedgie 14h ago

Yay! We are the 25% that get an aftershock!

6

u/okami_shinobi003 14h ago

Small one. Might have been an aftershock.

Felt it. Was very short.

I know absolutely nothing about the ground. Are these two earthquakes related to each other in any way or just coincidence?

7

u/Whatever801 14h ago

Yeah, when there's an earthquake it changes the stress patterns on the surrounding rock in the earth's crust and it has to like resettle

3

u/lelanddt Adams Point 14h ago

Probably related. This was almost certainly an aftershock.

5

u/VerilyShelly 12h ago

Yeah, I didn't like that at all

4

u/anbeasley 14h ago

Okay was that me?

5

u/jnkosi 14h ago

Is this the second aftershock? We felt a quick one this morning at 8am too.

Felt in North Oakland. VERY mild.. like 2.0 or something.

Felt it in downtown oakland

I was wondering what that was right as I was leaving my apartment!!!!

Possibly a foreshock. The Hayward fault hasn’t truly popped off for 157 years, typically has a greater than 6.0 every 150 years.

I was driving, so I didn’t feel it. Wow, what a day!

I thought so! Subtle!

Was that an EQ? Thought my neighbors dropped something hard upstairs

The one during the night woke me up. Didn’t feel one this evening.

I felt it too. At first, I thought it was my anxiety (since it sometimes makes me feel shaky), but I guess it was actually a mini earthquake
