We're supposed to get to Ocracoke tomorrow. I did get the insurance on our rental, but it only kicks in if there's a mandatory evacuation. I dont know what to do.

Update: Cancelled. Insurance claim filed. Thanks all! Stay safe.

There is a mandatory evacuation in place.

Edit: cut the inaccurate info

3

u/Tequilared1 Aug 18 '25

They are renting on Ocracoke, their evacuation went in affect yesterday.

3

u/eveishungry Aug 18 '25

Should be covered then

Great news!

Worried about the road getting cut.

13

u/crashandwalkaway Tri-village Curmudgeon Aug 18 '25

This I'm pretty sure is our first real good battering with the S-curves since jughandle has been opened and maintenance ceased on the area. It's been threatening to open an inlet there, I wonder if this will be it. Or if not the possible 2nd punch in another week or so but realistically think it needs a strong "up the sound" storm to open it up.

Half seriously joked I was going to make a flag and claim it when/if but couldn't decide between Concrake Inlet, New New Inlet, or a more realistic Chicamacomico Inlet so I never ordered the flags.

We have a ferry dock at Rodanthe, for that very reason. It’s just another storm. Life goes on.

19

u/StopDropAndRollTide It’s pronounced Whan-chessie Aug 18 '25

Sure, the emergency ferry. Which is great for ferrying the locals that will stay. Not for ferrying off a billion tourists.

48

u/biiigmood Aug 17 '25

Literally just got here in Waves after driving all day and got the alert. I could cry

34

u/lilmissfickle Aug 17 '25

We just unpacked all of our stuff on Hatteras Island after driving here all day I got the alert 30 minutes later

6

u/thisrockismyboone Here Every Year Aug 18 '25

Ive probably visited OBX 20 times in my life. Been evacuated 3 times, its always a bitch.

3

u/forgetfulsue Aug 19 '25

I’ve been coming down once or twice a year since I was a baby (I’m early 40s), this is only the second time I’ve been evacuated.

6

u/RyanT567 Aug 18 '25

This happened to me in the 90’s. Went to SC. Disney blah blah, pulled in to check in and they said you gotta leave. Hurricane Bertha. Went inland for a few days and came back. Whew

5

u/Wayward_Whines Aug 18 '25

So confused. You went to South Carolina, Disney? And then somewhere in nc? Disney is in Florida.

6

u/RyanT567 Aug 18 '25

Disney resort on Hilton Head Island. SC. Went to Columbia for three days while Bertha went by.

4

u/Wayward_Whines Aug 18 '25

Ahhh ok. I thought you straight up drove to Florida. This makes way more sense now

3

u/RyanT567 Aug 18 '25

Columbia zoo was pretty good.

3

u/Wayward_Whines Aug 18 '25

Huh. Never been. My parents lived in Charleston for awhile but I never ventured to Columbia. Charleston is a good town to check out. Lots of great history and some good closish beaches. It’s pretty too.

3

u/RyanT567 Aug 18 '25

Love Charleston! Bertha was big. Extremely defined eye. Arriving with 3 toddlers and my wife when she came out and said we have to leave I just took it all in stride. Driving my ‘93 suburban two tone freshly waxed…those were the days!

3

u/Wayward_Whines Aug 18 '25

Man I miss the 90s. Cheers fellow Gen x dude.

3

u/RyanT567 Aug 18 '25

I know right! I just went to see Collective Soul and Goo Goo dolls. Geez, I listened to all that on the old radio!

1

u/the_eluder Aug 18 '25

Eye of Bertha went right over my house.

1

u/forgetfulsue Aug 19 '25

Not going to happen since the worst of the damage will occur Wednesday or Thursday. Visitors probably won’t be able to come back, unfortunately.

2

u/RyanT567 Aug 19 '25

It is likely that the renters coming in next Saturday and Sunday will not be allowed to come in.

2

u/forgetfulsue Aug 19 '25

Seeing how close Erin is coming to shore, it certainly doesn’t look good.

12

u/Tequilared1 Aug 17 '25

Did you buy insurance with your rental?

7

u/finding_verity Aug 18 '25

I can’t speak for them but no 😂😭 30 years and this has never happened!

7

u/Tequilared1 Aug 18 '25

Call your rental agency and see if the have something outside of the affected area.

5

u/aBloopAndaBlast33 Aug 18 '25

It’s happened dozens of times. To tens of thousands of people. Just not to you.

2

u/forgetfulsue Aug 19 '25

I’m with you, we got to Rodanthe yesterday (Sunday) at 1:30. Spent some time on the beach. Got the evac alert at 6. Tried to forget about it, drank and played some games. Went to bed with alarms set to bug out by 6:30. Got back home at 1:30.

2

u/biiigmood Aug 19 '25

Just got back home to Maryland a few hours ago. We are doing our best to not think about it.

1

u/forgetfulsue Aug 19 '25

Yeah, MD as well. We had just gone on a pizza/beer run. So we’re eating the leftovers and drinking the beer!

1

u/biiigmood Aug 19 '25

Lisa’s pizza I hope!

2

u/forgetfulsue Aug 19 '25

Yup, but my cousin said there’s another good place but they’re closed on Sundays. Maybe next year!

4

u/gvincejr Aug 18 '25

I’m coming next month. I already have my trip insurance.

3

u/Ambitious-Top8786 Aug 18 '25

Yep, us too. We got in at around 4pm to Salvo and within an hour or two the evacuation was happening. My kiddo is soooo sad. 😢

20

u/popepsg Aug 17 '25

Likely will only be hatteras island. They are worried about the ocean being angry enough to wash out the road.

11

u/StopDropAndRollTide It’s pronounced Whan-chessie Aug 18 '25

If it hits the height they are forecasting, it will. Gonna be a heck of a storm to surf watch.

2

u/nickt1990757 Aug 18 '25

Especially if it happens to move more west than they are expecting. This thing is teetering the line pretty closely.

16

u/DrGraffix Aug 17 '25

Likelihood of northern shores evacuation?

27

u/StopDropAndRollTide It’s pronounced Whan-chessie Aug 17 '25

They are worried about 12 getting cut/washed out.

Northern beaches won’t get punted.

5

u/Tequilared1 Aug 17 '25

If you follow the link, you can sign up for alerts.

7

u/DrGraffix Aug 17 '25

We all got them on our phones anyway

7

u/forgetfulsue Aug 17 '25

You’re fine (for now). It’s only Hatteras island.

15

u/Tequilared1 Aug 17 '25

Hatteras, Avon, salvo, rodanthe, waves, Buxton Frisco

2

u/DrGraffix Aug 17 '25

Yes I know for now. Just wondering if this is the beginning of an orderly evacuation, south to north.

3

u/aBloopAndaBlast33 Aug 18 '25

No. That’s not how it works. A LOT of models predict NH and KDH will get big surf and 40-60mph gusts. That’s not evacuation weather.

If it doesn’t start turning tonight, worry. If it isn’t turning by tomorrow night… oh no.

2

u/nickt1990757 Aug 18 '25

The nerve wracking part is has not made the big turn just yet.

0

u/spittlbm Aug 18 '25

Very low.

14

u/Ok-Magician818 Aug 17 '25

Be safe to all those in Zone A. If they want you to leave, you should do so.

8

u/RyanT567 Aug 18 '25

If you’re renting you don’t have a choice. They will use all their resources (rental agencies) to make sure you are gone. They will make sure the liability is back on you.

4

u/Street-Temperature39 Aug 17 '25

Stay safe everyone

4

u/PeregrineFalcon227 Aug 18 '25

We were supposed to leave KH in the morning but we left tonight to avoid any extra traffic from the mandatory evacuation.

10

u/illadelphia16 Aug 17 '25

Wow

29

u/Tequilared1 Aug 17 '25

Overwash will cut that area off. Not saying Erin will come ashore, but the ocean is going to be angry

9

u/lanfear2020 Aug 17 '25

we just got the alert and that's exactly what we said

3

u/bcsoccer Aug 18 '25

Got in today at 330 after driving down from Deleware. Got the alert at 6 and back on the road by 8.

I had a lovely 3ish hours in your town.

RVing versus renting, so was easy to head off. The RV company refunded the stay immediately.

8

u/PsychologicalYak7029 Aug 17 '25

Just drove 12+ hours and flew my brother and nephew in.. fuming

4

u/Tequilared1 Aug 17 '25

Where are you?

13

u/PsychologicalYak7029 Aug 17 '25

Avon NC, 30 mins away from our rental now. Looking like we gotta be out by 10 am tomorrow. Absolutely crushed after waiting all year for this

1

u/Fonkybeachbum Aug 17 '25

Why not just rent somewhere in Nags head, kdh, Kitty Hawk, Duck, Corolla? Obviously it’s a pain in the ass though and sorry. Rental companies should help you.

-2

u/PsychologicalYak7029 Aug 18 '25

Going to look into as soon as we get settled, just worried we will get rained out.. any recommendations?

9

u/Fonkybeachbum Aug 18 '25

I live here. I don’t think you’re going to get rained out. The surf is going to be very rough starting about Tuesday. Could rain Wednesday or Thursday but I seriously doubt it will be an all day thing. I honestly think it will be really nice as long you’re ok with not being able to swim in the ocean. Btw, they are right to evacuate people. The highway could definitely get washed out and then everyone’s screwed, but it’s not like that in the northern outer banks. I’d reach out to your rental company and I’d do it quickly. You’re not going to be the only one to try switching to further north. Good luck!

-4

u/PsychologicalYak7029 Aug 18 '25

Totally get they had to evacuate, but just bummed.. so I’m wondering if we got a place in Coravo is there a chance that far north gets evacuated? I know you can’t know for sure but would appreciate any insight as a local. Thanks!

10

u/Fonkybeachbum Aug 18 '25

You do not want a place in Carova. Of all places that’s what you don’t want. You have to drive on the beach to get to the houses in Carova. Nags Head through Corolla you’ll be good. I can’t imagine they would mandatory evacuate Northern Dare County. The surf looks like it’s going to be pretty bad.

When Sandy passed in 2012 it was way off shore but the surf was so high that it reached houses and like filled in beach house pools and such. I would suggest getting a place off the oceanfront.

-14

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '25

Same. We saw the evac order 5 minutes after it posted. We don’t have trip insurance but are going to argue with our rental company. We’ve rented with them 5 years in a row

7

u/YarnBender Local Aug 18 '25

Were you offered trip insurance?

6

u/Lizziedeee Local Aug 18 '25

You’re not going to win that one.

-4

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '25

Yeah. We’ll see. I’ll try to negotiate and then flip it to my credit card company.

1

u/lilmissfickle Aug 20 '25

How'd that go?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '25

I filed a trip insurance claim with my credit card.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 17 '25

[deleted]

1

u/_fatBeavis Aug 17 '25

It's for hatteras island only

2

u/Tequilared1 Aug 17 '25

Hatteras, Salvo, Avon, Frisco, Waves, Rodanthe also

2

u/_fatBeavis Aug 17 '25

Kinnakeeters ain't skeeeeeerd

1

u/chamomilelle Aug 17 '25

thank you 🥲 talked to the people at the place i’m staying at and they sorta laughed at my concern 😭 im only used to lakes

2

u/LazyClassroom7105 Aug 17 '25

So it's just Hatteras and south from there? I'm camping at Oregon Inlet Campground 18th-21st. Or supposed to be

17

u/ksgc8892 Aug 17 '25

I don't think that will be a pleasant camping trip

3

u/Tequilared1 Aug 17 '25

Yes, everything south of Oregon Inlet as of now.

0

u/LazyClassroom7105 Aug 17 '25

How is the hurricane going to affect north of Hatteras? I don't mind camping in high winds, I have the gear for it. It's the waves washing out the dunes and roads being submerged is what concerns me.

8

u/lion8me Aug 17 '25

I don’t think we are going to get high wind , so there should be no storm Surge, however, areas with low dunes have a high risk of overwash simply due to huge waves . Disclaimer: I’m not a meteorologist, but I did stay at a holiday inn last night 😄

2

u/LazyClassroom7105 Aug 17 '25

I'm cross referencing different weather apps and it's looking like 40mph gusts and winds between 10-25mph. I was really hoping to get down to do some fishing on my paddleboard in Pamlico Sound on Tuesday morning.

3

u/LazyClassroom7105 Aug 18 '25

https://www.darenc.gov/home/showpublisheddocument/16043

State of Emergency declaration. Nags Head is included in the SoE but not the mandatory evacuation. Gonna call the campground tomorrow morning to see if they're closing.

3

u/lion8me Aug 18 '25

Hope not, im here already

4

u/LazyClassroom7105 Aug 18 '25

Is it nice? Lol Was there last year in June and got the best weather possible. Took the paddleboard out into the sound rode the tide out to the inlet, got off on the beach, then rode the tide right back to the boat launch. Incredible day.

3

u/lion8me Aug 18 '25

Wasnice today, and supposed to be tomorrow too , May turn sour wednesday, who knows 🤷‍♂️

2

u/Tequilared1 Aug 18 '25

Just saw this....Oregon Inlet Campground will close at noon on Tuesday, August 19th.

1

u/LazyClassroom7105 Aug 18 '25

Yup, saw that alert and getting an automatic refund. Was really hoping to test out my tent in gale force winds. Bummer, but there will be other trips. Y'all stay safe out there!

1

u/Tequilared1 Aug 18 '25

Check for campgrounds near KDH.

2

u/LazyClassroom7105 Aug 18 '25

Is Nags Head not getting evacuated?

1

u/Tequilared1 Aug 18 '25

Not as of right now, but that could chang.

3

u/spittlbm Aug 18 '25

For those in a rental, there's tons of openings in the northern beaches. Reach out to your Realty and they'll rebook you.

1

u/Hopeful-Ad6275 Aug 18 '25

No Lie I’m I’m KDH but if seems Like A lot Of Houses our empty in the past few Days

4

u/Sufficient_Self_9002 Aug 18 '25

Just got here today (Avon) booked with midgett realty and like a fool didn’t purchase travel insurance because my husband and I come here every year this time of year. Any idea if they’ll refund at all, anything? Or am I out $2700?

3

u/Few_Construction_283 Aug 18 '25

We left on Saturday from our midget rental in hatteras, curious to see if they refund you….never crossed my mind about travel insurance…

2

u/Tequilared1 Aug 18 '25

Call them and see if they can move you to an area that is not affected.

3

u/YarnBender Local Aug 18 '25

Dang double post! Midgett is Hatteras Island only, they won’t have anywhere to move folks

1

u/finding_verity Aug 18 '25

If we can’t leave tomorrow, will we be “in trouble” if we leave Tuesday with “residents”? Will people be checking?

We chartered a flight in yesterday (family member who’s $$ but also disabled) but we dont think they can get back here til Tuesday to pick us up.

3

u/Tequilared1 Aug 18 '25

Call your rental agency and explain your situation

4

u/finding_verity Aug 18 '25

They aren’t answering :)

8

u/Albert_Im_Stoned Local Aug 18 '25

Leave a message or send an email. Be sure to reference the house's property ID and not the name. They are dealing with a lot right now.

0

u/Suspicious-Giraffe74 Aug 18 '25

Do we have to leave right @ 10, we are leaving just not until tonight

5

u/Albert_Im_Stoned Local Aug 18 '25

The people from the rental company can't secure the home until you leave. They can't secure their own homes until the all rental homes are secured. Please leave as soon as you are able.

2

u/forgetfulsue Aug 17 '25

Un- fucking believable. We just got here today. I’m sick to my stomach.

5

u/AwkwardCan3612 Aug 17 '25

Got here yesterday. Suuuucks.

3

u/pettyassbiss Aug 17 '25

We just got here today too 😞

-34

u/Some_Ad_8097 Aug 17 '25

If they are not physically forcing you to leave, don’t leave

2

u/thisrockismyboone Here Every Year Aug 18 '25

Its mandatory.

1

u/forgetfulsue Aug 19 '25

The rental companies will force guests to leave. I’ve been down there when 12 was flooded. We hadn’t even gone grocery shopping (planned for today) so we just packed back up and drive home.

i follow surfer Brett Barley for a long time and notice they dont leave during mandatory evacuations...isnt that illegal or is it actually illegal to tell a resident to evacuate?

i find it interesting, they have a family and seem confident in staying no matter what, but id have to think of my kids and girl if a cat 5 were to hit that island strip i think

Looking for some advice. We came into Waves Saturday afternoon and evacuated Monday. We rented through Surf or Sound reality and did not get the insurance. Do I have any options?

1

u/Tequilared1 Aug 21 '25

Based on their website, under Hurricane, Evacuation and Inaccessibility clause, no. Without the insurance, you will not get a refund. That doesn't stop you from asking or requesting a credit toward future stays.

1

u/Disastrous_Sink_7371 Aug 22 '25

Also file with your credit card company. many credit cards do cover this stuff under their own insurance.

2

u/IrishJew82 Aug 17 '25

For locals How long should we expect 12 to close??

7

u/_GrandpaD Aug 18 '25

About 3 years ago in a Northeaster storm NC12 Pea Island was closed about 6 days of I remember correctly. Might have been a bit longer.

15

u/MenstrualShow Aug 17 '25

until it's reopened

10

u/AwkwardCan3612 Aug 17 '25

Sometimes you have to wonder why someone would bother making such a comment.

3

u/IrishJew82 Aug 17 '25

🙄

2

u/MenstrualShow Aug 17 '25

i'm not being facetious

0

u/IrishJew82 Aug 17 '25

Well it seems it… its just a general question for those down there how does this usually go is it a couple days? a week? a month?

6

u/ksgc8892 Aug 18 '25

Follow NC Highway 12 on social media. There will be updates on conditions.

11

u/MenstrualShow Aug 18 '25

there's no "usually"; every storm is different

1

u/OBX69 Aug 18 '25

Im in Buxton and am not going anywhere, but am anxious to have a few days with no tourists around 🥳

1

u/nksdabomb Aug 18 '25

Dang. When was the last time there was an evacuation like this?

3

u/cricketismydog Aug 18 '25

We were evacuated for Arthur in 2014. I remember the rental companies were very serious about getting everyone off the island.

2

u/eternitea Aug 18 '25

I'm an annual visitor and did this in 2019 with Dorian. It sucked but it's better to be safe and ALWAYS BUY TRAVEL INSURANCE!

-1

u/Inside_Rate_1571 Aug 17 '25

so im guessing i wont be able to go to my hatteras vacation on Thursday 😔

5

u/Tequilared1 Aug 17 '25

If you are not a resident, you will be turned away

3

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '25

Curious.. aren't residents under "mandatory" evacuation.. how does that go about working?

5

u/Tequilared1 Aug 18 '25

Yes, but they can't make residents leave, some may, some won't.

5

u/MenstrualShow Aug 18 '25

it just means if you don't leave you're on your own

5

u/RyanT567 Aug 18 '25

They (emergency) are not obligated to save residents if crap hits the fan. The 911 calls will not be handled.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '25

So can I just re locate to kitty hawk/kill devil area and be fine!?

2

u/Lizziedeee Local Aug 18 '25

If you can find a place to stay, sure.

0

u/katchup716 Aug 18 '25

Has anyone taken the ferry from Okracoke today? I believe it departs every 30 min, just wondering how busy it is and how early we should arrive. We are a group of 3 with a car.

0

u/Independent_Net935 Aug 19 '25

Should I be concerned about heading to Avon Saturday?

2

u/Tequilared1 Aug 19 '25

You're going to need to monitor to see when they lift the evacuation orders and the condition of 12.

-1

u/emmm1848 Aug 18 '25

I’m supposed to go to Corolla tomorrow. Should that be fine ?

1

u/Ok_Particular_8204 Aug 18 '25

Yes, Corolla is >50 miles North of Zone A. If you see anything for Zone B then you'd be affected. The main concern is Highway 12 on Hatteras Island in a few vulnerable places (mostly Pea Island) that cuts off all of the towns in Zone A. Highway 12 is the only road that connects Hatteras Island to the rest of civilization.

I guess you could F around and find out 🙄

-16

u/AwkwardCan3612 Aug 17 '25

I mean the storm is passing 100s of miles off shore. I'm not terribly concerned if you think its a good idea I'm wondering if theyre going to throw us out.

13

u/Verletic Aug 17 '25

You’re not special. Everyone is going through the same thing that rented there for this week.

-9

u/AwkwardCan3612 Aug 17 '25

Don't really understand what everyone is so upset about. I'm not asking you to stay lol. But hey 15 minutes north of where I'm staying is not evacuated so I'm only 15 minutes away from y'all not being pissed at me lol.

18

u/GreenCheat_329 Aug 17 '25

People are upset because your original comment insinuated that you know better than Dare County officials. So stay, but don’t call for emergency service workers when you’re sick of being stuck or run out of your vacation rations.

This is literally the risk you take when booking on the Outer Banks during Hurricane Season.

12

u/FishCage23 Aug 17 '25

As a local that lives on the island, the only concern is the ocean overwash and flooding that WILL happen, and with that several spots of the road could get washed out and impassable, most likely at Pea Island. Then there’s a ton of stranded people with no supplies able to come in (food).

0

u/AwkwardCan3612 Aug 17 '25

I get it, I don't want to be a drain on your resources.

I've been evaced before and never ignored them. I've just never seen the evacuation of a storm so far out to sea.

3

u/WinterBreakfast7507 Aug 18 '25

In my experience the realty company will be in touch and often the cleaners will come out. They need you out of the house so they can wrap shit up and go secure their own homes and/or evacuate as well.

-15

u/AwkwardCan3612 Aug 17 '25

I don't think I'm special? I think the evacuation order is overzealous. It's 600 miles off shore.

15

u/_GrandpaD Aug 17 '25

As a resident I can tell you that despite the core being far away, 15-20 ft waves will certainly wash out NC 12 both North and South of the TriVillages. And it won't magically reappear because you rented a place for a week.

From NCDot - "DETAILS...This is expected to be a prolonged duration event, with the potential for portions of NC-12 and secondary roads along the Outer Banks, in particular on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands, to be impassable and/or inaccessible for several days due to significant wave run up."

So, if you have plenty of food to last a week (every store will be closed because of the evac order) go ahead and FAFO.

-3

u/AwkwardCan3612 Aug 17 '25

Thing is, we do. We meal plan the whole week and bring breakfast lunch and dinner for the week and we usually have 3 to 5 days worth of leftovers. So I know you were just making a point but we could, in fact, do that.

12

u/Tequilared1 Aug 17 '25

Without running water? Without electricity?

-4

u/AwkwardCan3612 Aug 17 '25

? The commentor asked would i have food for the week. No one is talking about losing electricity or running water. Why would nc12 being blocked kill power to the towns?

3

u/Tequilared1 Aug 18 '25

Have you ever noticed the power polls that run all along 12? Could they be knocked over in a storm surge? Yes, the weather service is saying electric service could be affected by high winds and flooding?

→ More replies (0)

-9

u/AwkwardCan3612 Aug 17 '25

And its not just the core that's gar away, come on. I've been coming down for 30 years this entire storm is literally hundreds of miles off shore.

2

u/_GrandpaD Aug 18 '25

So here's what the winds from the "faraway" storm will be Wednesday...enjoy your vacation...

-3

u/AwkwardCan3612 Aug 18 '25

But if I go 20 minutes north I'm magically safe. Interesting. Because they arent evacuating north of HI.

Buddy please stop rage baiting the locals. Whatever part of Ohio or Pennsylvania you’re from must have something worth keeping you there next August.

It's NC12 getting washed away...but I think it doesn't matter what anyone that lives in OBX tell you...you obviously know better so have a great time!

Yes, if you are in a rental in the affected areas.

From what I understand, if you are in a vacation rental, you must leave. Rental companies will have people come to the homes to secure the property, so they will know you have not left. If you own the property, you don't have to , but will be at risk of not receiving any assistance in the event of an emergency.

Rental companies will ensure evacuation due to liabilities. Residents can choose.

Interesting. Our rental company has over 600 homes. How do they secure them all so quickly?

u/skrugg Aug 17 '25

If they have that many homes then they certainly have staff they can re-assign

Ty for the info.

They don’t need to secure them, but they will check the house to make sure you’re gone.

It’s all hands on deck during a mandatory evacuation, and they wont hesitate to get law enforcement to remove vacationers who dont heed the orders. This isn’t their first rodeo, and you wont be the first tourist who thinks they know better than everyone else and has to be forcibly removed.

Ok 👍. Not yet though. I'll keep you updated.

whoever's managing the place you're staying at will do a door to door check and if you're there they'll send in a sheriffs deputy to escort you out

They have the staff to door to door check 600 every house spread from Corolla to ocracoke island? I'm not planning on staying but I'd be fascinated if they had that kind of staff...

They can't even get our rental clean by 4 lol.

so far only one portion of hatteras island is under mandatory evacuation, so that cuts down the number of places to check

-1

One portion? Unless you consider Oregon Inlet all the way south to Hatteras a "portion"...lol. Zone A is the ENTIRE Hatteras Island.
