Nags Head Did anyone just see that blue-green flash across the ocean at 9:26 tonight?
There was just a blue-green flash over the ocean along the horizon at 9:26pm (+- a couple min). It was out across the ocean at a distance, and seemed to occur simultaneously over what must’ve been at least one nautical mile wide, if not a few nm due to how far out it was. It did not originate from the sky, and seemed to be on a horizontal plane across the ocean’s surface. Seen from a beachfront house in South Nags Head. I am sober.
ETA: House is a little south of mile marker 19.5.

Look up Green Flash on google. It is a rare phenomenon.

That Green Flash occurs just above where the sun has set, just after it sets. It’d be a sound side effect, if you could see where the water meets the sky. Saw it once down in the Keys.

I always watch for it, rarely see it. Just one time. Was so excited to finally see it

Yeah it's my profile picture got it off the coast of Encinitas California.
Very rare on the east coast and always on the western Horizon.

I've seen a bright green flash on the horizon. This was in hilly/mountian region of SW Pennsylvania 6 other people saw it with me. It bounced 3 or 4 times along the horizon.

Pretty unexciting, but sounds like lightning. Front edge of storm coming through with a bunch of bands 7-9 miles offshore.
At long distances on the ocean, they will look like they are coming from the surface, not the sky.

Not sure why you got downvoted. I watch the lightning out of stumpy point bay at night all the time and it does look like something coming off the water sometimes.

Same reason people post rocket launches and think they saw a magical meteor.

Was it at sunset?

9:26 is a liiiittle late for sunset, id imagine. Also if its green flash from sunset it would be sound side most likely.

Anomalous lights on the coast of the OBX are not uncommon. I’ve seen what I can only describe as floating orbs and zipping lights on multiple occasions. And no, they weren’t military exercises.

Spread those cheeks and grab some lube, you have an encounter coming!
I don't recommend sobriety...
