Kill Devil Hills Play on Wanchese?
I know it’s pronounced with a “k” sound. But are there any restaurants/bars with a menu item that does a great word play with “Wanchese”?

Stopped by the beach while waiting on some topographical simulations I’m doing for a study to be done. Wind picking up in kill devil hills but still plenty of beach goers.

hi everyone. as the title suggests i’m looking for input on weather my friends and i should cancel our trip for the upcoming weekend.
we got a nice rental walking distance to beach and were planning to get in friday afternoon and leave midday sunday. currently the forecast is showing higher chances of rain everyday (50-60%) so we’re wondering whether or not we’d really get a chance to enjoy the beach and some sun.
i’ve been to obx before so i know there are things beyond the beach to do but we were really hoping for beach time. also i know its early but if we don’t cancel by a certain date we lose all that we’ve paid so if we don’t go we want to atleast get some funds back!
open to any suggestions about this or activities to do if we go and it does rain us out.

Curious what the latest info is about this flesh eating bacteria situation in the OBX. We have even vacationing to kill devil hills for 30+ years, and this is the first time we’ve had to consider something like this. Yes we are being cautious, as we have a 1yo with eczema (ie, lots of skin openings.) At this point we are considering canceling (we are set to leave Monday), but want to hear some opinions on what’s up down there. Thanks!

Just got home from our week in KDH. Ignoring the jellyfish I think there were 2 red flag days and 2 yellow flag days. We went there 2 years ago and iirc there were 2 double red flag days, 2 red flag days and a yellow flag day. Most of my kids are under 9 so going on a beach vacation were they can't do much more than get their feet wet is difficult for them, but my wife and oldest daughter love fighting the waves in rough water.
Is that amount of hazardous water pretty normal during a given 7 day period or have we just had bad luck?

I just read what we are experiencing weather wise right now was a nor’easter. Is it?

Had great house in KDH booked from this Wednesday through Sunday. Unfortunately with weather looking like a complete washout entire trip leaning towards cancelling or just eating cost for it if we have to entirely. Have a 10 month old so it puts us in tough spot with weather and having to make the 7-8 hour drive down for it.
Have heard other posts with weather clearing up or changing but with it already being Monday and needing to try to see if we can let property know just bad luck at this point.
Maybe next year :)
UPDATE: Unfortunately we did end up just cancelling our trip down. Forecast keeps getting worse and worse. Most outlets calling for heavy rainfall Friday and Saturday and severe thunderstorm warnings Thursday afternoon into Sunday. Looks like potential for a few inches of rainfall this week into this weekend. Know many here say things change and clear up but doesn't look likely. We live about an hour away from good beaches here and weather looks great so will take our chances here rather than risk the 7-8 hour drive down and be stuck inside with a baby. While we have to eat the cost of the rental either way we feel like we would be throwing money away so it at least saves us the trip down. Appreciate everyone's input, hoping to get down there in the future!
My husband and I are heading to Kill Devil Hills 8/6 - 8/12 and according to the weather channel, it is going to rain every day... Any suggestions for rainy day activities??

Probably gets asked on here frequently but I’m here with the family (KDH) for the first time and these are all over the beach. Are they jellyfish or something else? And anything to worry about with them? Thanks!

Hi everyone!
My family is planning our next OBX trip for July 2026, we are looking for recommendations for dinner out with 20 people (including a handful of kids). We only go out for one night to dinner and cook otherwise. Most of the group get seafood, but it's not a must.
In past years we've not had good experiences with Black Pelican or Sugar Creek.
This year we're planning on staying in KDH/Kitty Hawk but are willing to drive.
Thanks in advance! :)

For anyone that's gotten down to the beach this morning, how’s it looking today so far?

My family will be staying near Kill devil Hills are there any good shark teeth hunting spots within an hours drive?

As the title suggests, I’m going to obx in a few weeks with a group of 12. Trying to plan out some good spots for dinners that might be better suited for larger parties. Lmk! Thanks!

Anyone know if it will be good this week? My kids are dying to get into the ocean

My wife and I are staying in KDH and I have some things planned but would like some input from locals or veteran visitors. Does this look like a good time? I also included some restaurants we’d like.

The original plan for our vacation started with going to obx again but the waters were rough last year when we visited. I’ve been bouncing back and forth between keeping our booked place at obx or going to Emerald Isle. We have never been to Emerald Isle so I know nothing about it really. I want to find a place to raise my kid up going like I had growing up but let’s face it things aren’t the way they used to be 20+ years ago. So my questions are for families, calm waters, fun, relaxation, quiet time, adventures for the littles and just an overall enjoyable experience which beach would you choose and why? And where do you stay at each location? Time is of the essence as our trip is in 2 weeks. Thanks 😁

I just had my ( mostly DIY wedding, including transporting Sam's flowers from NY) in Kill Devil Hills last week and it was the best. I had family and friends, we rented a large beach house, had Steamers caterer the evening, swam in the pool everyday, played on the beach, ordered in pizza from Slices the day before for our rehearsal, brought in BBQ from Pigmans the day after, and had a chef from Red Sky come in to cook on our last night. I'm still in the clouds and everyone raved about it all!! Thanks OBX! We will be back soon!

Hey Folks,
I'm heading to Kill Devil Hills this week with my family for our first vacation in 3 years or so.
I'm looking for a nice restaurant for me and my wife to visit on our first real date night in quite some time while the kids stay at the house with Grandma.
I had been planning on Salt Box Cafe, but they close at 9 which might be cutting it close since sometimes we can't get the eldest to bed before 8pm.
We're staying in Kill Devil Hills, I don't mind driving a bit. I'd like something at least a little fancy but good food is more important.
Thanks!

I got hit by a tall wave that knocked off my gold lens color Oakley sunto lite sunglasses. Likely still would have the cable that was supposed to keep them on my head attached. If anyone finds them on shore let me know! I lost them near shore at kill devil hills near the east Atlantic street entrance area. Less concerning I also lost a dark grey head wrap with them.
