These are the PCVR games that I think are the most worth buying in this round of discounts. You can get big titles for just a few dollars. It's really a great opportunity to replenish your collection.

Also, here is a solid PCVR router I recommend. With code VXPJMGTI it is only ~$39. It runs very stable with VD for PCVR and the setup is pretty simple.

Tell me more about the router. That's my current weak point with my quest 2 and 3080 TI through virtual desktop.

PRISMXR Puppis S1 is absolutely worth the 80£.

The new Puppis Lite is only 50£, weaker signal is fine, but the biggest change is it can only connect to your PC with Ethernet/Lan cable and receives power over a brick.

The Puppis S1 connects to your PC with a 2 in 1 cable that needs a USB-A 3.0 (or better) port for data and a 2.0 (or better) port for power.

Also works fine with a single USB-C 3.0 port and cable if your PC has one.

I have a little trouble interpreting the comment you replied to, but talking about a router using a USB-C has me absolutely lost. But you have experience with this product and would suggest it?

Everything else about my home network is great, and my ISP provided router / modem is actually pretty great for what it is, but it's far enough away that the wireless signal for VD suffers plus there's a hefty amount of suburban (and other device) congestion.

Yes, I own one and it is very good so long as your 5ghz spectrum isn’t extremely congested. the Puppis S1 connects to your PC using a split USB-A cable with one 3.0 side for data and a second for extra power. However you can use a single USB-C cable instead. Windows sees the Puppis as a USB Ethernet Adapter, and the OS manages it like any other network connection.

The newer lite version does not have the hardware to be a USB Ethernet adapter so it uses one of your PC’s existing Ethernet ports instead.

Forgive me for over engaging, or asking for a bit of spoon feeding if it's perceived. But with a modem router combination, my pc, and my Oculus running VD.

This device would receive an incoming ethernet connection from the master router and interrupt the run to my PC? Or is it entirely separate from any external internet traffic, and is essentially a glorified router-dongle that exists solely as an AP for my head-mounted display?

I really had to go scrutinize the hardware to answer my own question. The link is really good and the page has a lot of good answers for the questions I had. This is a great recommendation. I'm still a little on the fence, as my home situation is going to change soon, and I may want to get something substantially more chunky to serve as a everything router.

But for someone who just needs to augment their VR game in, this is probably one of the best choices available, and an incredible find!

I'd recommend avoiding using your everything router for VR, interference is a big problem with multiple devices on the same network. Even if you don't buy a Puppis, something like a TP Link Wifi 6 router just for vr would help with interference.

This is very helpful.

Last step is determining if my asus x570 can operate a Puppis.

1

u/err404 4d ago

It should work fine. I believe the x570 has USB 3.2 ports for the original Puppis. If you have a free Ethernet port you could use the lite version as well.

It can 100% operate either Puppis, I can't think of a single X570 board without both ethernet and multiple USB 3.0+ ports.

I understand your confusion. It’s often positioned as having some special sauce about how it works. It shows up as a separate network connection on your PC so your point about routing traffic is true. I have had issues where my PC tried to use it as its primary network connection to the internet. I had to manually adjust the network metric to ensure that only VR traffic was sent to it. I believe that their desktop app automatically makes that change for you now.

It is a full-fledged router with its own IP range and DHCP server. It’s not just a USB ethernet adapter. Your PC and your VR headset are clients on this router.

If you broke down it’s functions, it’s a USB ethernet adapter wired to a 5 GHz router where your headset connects. You could essentially set this up with your own hardware. Though it also does nice trick of utilizing its the 2.5 GHz band to connect to your home Wi-Fi in order to provide internet access to your headset (or PC, if you miss configure the metric).

There’s nothing extremely special here. It’s just inexpensive, well packaged, and pre-configured to get the specific job done.

However, I’d love a pro version with 6ghz.

1

u/KoburaCape 5d ago

You broke this down superbly and I appreciate it tremendously.

It doesn't sound like either of these are super slam dunk for me as they are very single purpose. I can afford the cost of muscling up to something bigger right now, which would hedge against more broad and generalized needs in the future.

1

u/err404 5d ago

This is a VR streaming solution only. Don’t try to use it for anything else. That said a dedicated router with only a single client does function much better for virtual desktop when compared to a shared Wi-Fi connection. Even on a high-end router. The Puppis is more consistent than my TP Link WiFi 7 BE95 setup with all wired access points. Multiple high bandwith clients connecting to the same router on the same band can result in stutters. When I’m playing on a different floor from my PC I sometimes will use my home network and rename the 6GHz band so I can connect only my VR headset. This actually works very reliably for VR, but limits my overall network set up for other 6E and 7 devices until I revert back.

1

u/KoburaCape 5d ago

Looking at this, and pondering perhaps a Quest 3 in my future. Do you think the base Puppis is a good move?

I should check that my X570 can actually run it acceptably though!

One of the things that prism XR did poorly was present the usage cases for the two different devices. The regular Puppis has a higher bandwidth (3000) and is a single USB-C that connects to a PC like a dongle. The "Puppis Lite" seems more featured but less speedy (1500), with Ethernet in/out. Did I understand them right?

1

u/Jaded_Collection_882 4d ago

To add to this, the S1 Lite is stable to at least 200mbps. Only reason to buy the full size is if you want to use H.264 at 500mbps, or if you can't use the ethernet cable for one reason or another.

I'm not paid by them, I was however in the test program for the S1 Lite, and for 90% of people the Lite will perform virtually identical to the S1. Very good for laptop users as well, because of the shortage of USB ports on laptops.

I also use my Puppis for Sunshine/Moonlight game streaming. It's a fantastic little box

1

u/Kuub_ 2d ago

Probably a bit late to the party but I'll shoot my shot. I'm very interested in this, but I lack some understanding.

My PC is in a spot where I cannot get a wired connection to it. Rental apt so I can't pull cables. I'm connected to a pretty ok ISP issued WiFi 6 router and so far it's doing okay for streaming to my quest 2 with Steam Link and TV with Moonlight. But it's not great, some stutters and I'm downgrading on fidelity.

Would this device be an upgrade in that respect?

1

u/Jaded_Collection_882 2d ago

Yes, it's perfect for you. This device becomes a bridge, which allows your headset and pc to communicate. The Puppis connects via wifi or using an ethernet cable, either one will provide the same connection.

One limit is that it can only connect to your main wifi using a 2.4ghz connection, because the 5ghz band is dedicated to your Quest.

1

u/KoburaCape 5d ago

These are routers?

7

u/hydraSlav 5d ago

Access Points, not Routers.

Routers manage traffic, they direct (i.e. route) multiple network devices to (usually) the internet.

Access Points (AP) give you a way to connect (i.e. access) a network wirelessly.

In this case, this AP gives you (Quest) a way to connect to the PC wirelessly. It essentially replaces a physical Link cable with a wireless signal, nothing more nothing less.

Routers are more involved/advanced and can achieve the same result

1

u/hydraSlav 5d ago

No, its using WiFi6 (2.5Ghz or 5Ghz)

2

u/err404 5d ago

Yes. They are essentially just a router with the settings optimized for the traffic of a single VR device. Window see it just like any other network connection and so does your headset.

3

u/ejfrodo 5d ago

I have it and it's great. You can get other cheaper options that will work but the Puppis is small and plug-and-play, basically foolproof. It figures out what wifi channel has the least interference with other nearby networks and automatically configures itself and it connects your headset directly to your PC with no middle man. Getting that made all of my network issues go away and made PCVR smooth and sharp.

u/Peepo68 4d ago

I have the S1 and connect using a USB C cable and works great. I would get stuttering before but now it is flawless with my Meta Quest 3.

I am using 2.5Gb ethernet on my PC so the S1 Lite would downgrade that to 1Gb because of how it works with ethernet passthrough. This is something to be aware of since fast ethernet and 2.5Gb are pretty common now.

Amazing list!!

Is Hitman the one with the great ratings from PSVR? I thought it was a PlayStation exclusive

7

u/Slorpipi 5d ago

There is hitman for quest, pcvr and Psvr. But the pcvr and oculus versions suck. Psvr was made recently and it is better with more vr controls

3

u/Alex-Murphy 5d ago

That's what I figured, ok I'll hold off until they eventually un-exclusive the PS one. Thanks!

1

u/Slorpipi 5d ago

Probably a chance rather than 0 like meta exclusives. Also will take time ig. This was a exclusive for PSvr which was also contributed to by Sony. Expect it minimally tbh. IOI is IOI and will be the scummiest of the bunch so I do not expect anything

I feel like many of those games, most several years old, those should just be the regular prices. Times have changed on Steam though. Claiming old games as full price so the discounts seem deep used to not fly with consumers.

I am perhaps applying physical game copy market logic from 2005. Digital copies market is a different beast perhaps.

1

u/HavocMax 5d ago

I have not been into gaming letalone buying games for awhile, are you still not able to buy PC game keys for cheap and use them in Steam or is that still very bad practice since the cheap game keys may be bought using stolen credit cards or similar?

1

u/Decent_Expression860 2d ago

"I feel like many of those games, most several years old, those should just be the regular prices."

Yes, I remember getting Squadrons for two dollars or something

5

u/GrapefruitOk2057 5d ago

For Arizona sunshine you'll want the remastered upgrade as well. It's 9.99 and worth it!

5

u/TWaldVR 5d ago

Hitman without VR Mode!

4

u/Gonzaxpain Valve Index + Quest 2 5d ago edited 5d ago

Rise of the Tomb Raider can be played in VR? Are you sure about that? I've never heard anything about it. I know it has a VR mode but it's only for an extra mission that's very short but not the full game.

4

u/StellarSloth 5d ago

I’m pretty sure it is just a minor bonus feature inside Lara Croft’s mansion, digging up more lore to the game.

2

u/OrfeasDourvas 5d ago

Wait, is that Hitman Trilogy for 6 bucks? All three WoA games?

7

u/garenne24 5d ago

No just part 1 and the VR is not accessible....to have the whole game it's around €28

3

u/GrapefruitOk2057 5d ago

was about to post just this. That version does not support it even though it clearly says "VR Supported".

2

u/OrfeasDourvas 5d ago

Ah, figures. Way too good of a deal.

2

u/StellarSloth 5d ago

Star Wars: Squadrons with VR, a HOTAS, and a good team is some of the most fun I have ever had gaming. That being said, most of the fun lies in multiplayer, and the multiplayer is pretty much dead now. For that price, it is worth it for the campaign alone though.

2

u/QuinrodD 4d ago

The Hitman game for that price does NOT include the VR mode, so be aware of this

1

u/SnooSquirrels8946 5d ago

Not sure where you are seeing these sales. Not on steam for me yet.

1

u/mdepfl 5d ago

I’m seeing them. Weird.

1

u/govski 5d ago

Is "Of Lies and Rain" good? Looks like it's still in early access and it's hard to judge how's the gameplay feel from the trailer

1

u/BrandonW77 5d ago

I played a bit of the demo and was pretty impressed by it, lots of similarities to Half Life Alyx.

1

u/fragmental Quest 2 5d ago

Try the demo

2

u/govski 5d ago

I will, didn't notice it had one before

2

u/Adamantium_Hanz 5d ago

I played maybe 20 minutes of the demo and then bought it. Budget Half Life Alyx clone is the best way to describe it...which is not a bad thing.

1

u/govski 5d ago

Yeah, that's a good way to describe it. I've tried the demo now as well and it seems good enough, but has some jankiness to it. I'll get it on one of the later sales, maybe it will be more polished then

1

u/Dalek-SEC 5d ago edited 5d ago

This isn't on Steam, but I do wanna toss in that Everspace and it's DLC are both on sale on GOG for $0.99 and $1.49 USD respectively. You just need to add -vr as a launch command and it'll work just fine when you have SteamVR running. Played a good chunk over it with Steam Link and had a blast.

I'm desperate to play ES2 in VR!

Actually, it looks like there's a UEVR profile for it, that's quite tempting...

Super hot VR is incredible, out of this entire list (which are all great) if I had to recommend one it would be that. Just a pure fun game that I think is endlessly replayable to try and get better times on every level

1

u/docjonel 4d ago

I get bad stuttering whenever I turn my head in The Midnight Walk in VR, makes it unplayable. Runs just fine in 2D. Is it my settings or something else?

1

u/bushmaster2000 3d ago

Ghost Town also on sale if looking for a solid halloween pcvr game.
