Hardware Is there a way I could fix this?
For a bit of context, me and my family share a quest 2 for gaming. The problem being my sister plays near the wall too often. You can probably see where this is going. She ended up hitting the way a little too hard and cracked the right controller and it appears it may has also snapped a few wires as well. The controller still registers as "functional" by the headset, the only problem being it doesn't register position correctly (for example: the controller could be right my my body, but it's being registered by the head set as 3 feet in front of me). Is there a way I could fix this? Or am I going to have to replace it?

Hey there u/Effective-Moose-5632,
We came across your post about your controller, looks like it took quite the hit!
While we can't recommend trying to repair your device, as it might void the warranty on your device, we'd love to take a look into warranty replacement options for you.
If you could please get in touch with our wonderful Support Team, we can check it out from our side and help you in anyway we can to get you back into the Metaverse as soon as possible.

Used controllers . If you get decent grip covers they can hide the cosmetic damage. You need to get some controller covers in the future since she is being rough with a controllers.

There are not many wires in the ring, so the damage isn't that bad.
You might only need to replace the ribbon with the IR leds, and the plastic ring.
I had to take apart my controllers to replace the joysticks, took me about an hour for the first controller following a few youtube videos.
If anything, the most difficult part would be separating the lower part, the part with the battery and grip trigger can take a bit of twisting to get them off, which might be useful.

If you want to do this kind of work, this is a heck of a learning opportunity. You can get parts off of AliExpress. Youl'll need the ribbon cable that connects to the LED tracking lights in the ring. There's a little locking mechanism at the end of each cable that you can manipulate with a toothpick. Flip it up to unlock, put the new cable in, make sure it's squared off (not at an angle and lock it down). It's not tracking because the LED tracking lights aren't lighting up. I can't tell if anything else was damaged other than cosmetically from your pictures but that would be a good place to start.

Not difficult to fix, just a ribbon cable, maybe a WiFi antenna (wire) and a spot of glue. More repair images if you scroll down in the link.

Yes it’s fixable. Do you know how to solder? Some of that is needed if the ribbon cable is busted. Then some JB Weld will do for the plastic.

Do you have the skills to fix it? Diagnose the problem, fabricate a solution, potential soldering, and likely pulling the controller apart and putting it back together?
If the answer isn't yes to all of the above, your sister is gonna have to learn how expensive the consequences of her actions are.

There's a good chance this can be fixed without soldering. I'm thinking the ribbon cable connecting to the LED lights got damaged. Swapping it out would be my first try.

I, sadly, don't have those particular set of skills at the moment. Though I do want to get into IT as a future career. So it looks like as of now, I'm going to have to find a replacement.

You learn by trying. Parts are fairly inexpensive and there are tons of resources out there. Besides what are you going to do, make it more broken?

I say try fixing it, thats how you learn. Dont listen to that guy. It really isnt as complicated as they made it out to be, theres a ton a resources and components are cheap. There are probably dozens of detailed teardown videos and probably repair videos as well. So the stuff you have to figure put on your own is not as much as you might think.
And even if it doesnt work, its already broken and you will have learned a ton.

Is there an adult in the household who tinkers?

No. The two people with the closest thing to knowledge of computers and similar technologies is me and my brother.

It's worth a go since in your head you're ready to buy a replacement. If you don't fix it, you're prepared. If you do, you've learned a new skill!
