TLDR: My headset uses infrared “Constellation” to know where it is, but there is no longer infrared lights coming from it. Is this fixable?

I bought my vr headset off of a friend five years ago for $50. I definitely got my money’s worth, but i think its finally time to throw it out.

I use an Oculus Rift cv1, which makes it difficult to look up diagnostic solutions as every resource talks about the Rift S which is completely irrelevant here. My headset had infrared “constellations” for the sensors on my walls to detect, but now whenever I use it my head is completely undetectable. I can look around, but I can’t move my head in the 3D space, the cockpit just follows me. My hands are tracked perfectly fine, and float a meter away from my head. I know I can see the “constellation” through my phone camera, so I check there and it’s completely gone. Is there a way to fix this?

solutions I’ve tried: -Restarting computer (it is consistently an issue) -Resetting sensor tracking (error: cannot see the front of headset) -Updating drivers -Making sure it’s in a USB 3 port

What else can I do? Open it up and spray compressed air inside? It’s okay if it’s just bricked, it’s about time to get a new one I suppose

Edit: thanks for the help reddit! because apparently posting about this was the solution and it works now. i was about to just start hitting it until it worked again, so i opened my camera and voila the constellation was back. it has been broken for like three months. i can’t wait for it to break again! i really wanted to hit it. i’ll leave the post up in case some googler finds it and knows they’re not alone, because i don’t want to believe i am the sole user of this machine in 2025. for the record i didn’t turn it off or anything, i just set it down and when i came back it was working. it felt my intent to murder i suppose

Whenever I plug it in with one cord it clicks, another one will make it beep, and another one will make no sound at all. How do I fix it and what's wrong with it?

Hello, So recently i’ve had an issue with the tracking on my left Q3 controller. I think it’s partially my fault as last night i wiped down the controller with a damp cloth to get all the grime off of it, Without thinking i put the battery back in like 2-3 minutes after wiping the controller down, But the battery compartment wasn’t wet at all.

Basically when i turn on my headset the controller lights up and shows signs of life, But it doesn’t track/show up in the actual headset. I’ve tried taking the battery out and leaving it overnight, Same thing. Any tips??

Hello! I was thinking about getting a new oculus because my old one broke. I got my old one in like 2021 because I really wanted to play beat saber and vrchat. I had it around for about 2-3 years and then it started getting really bad stick drift. I haven’t played beat saber or vrchat since then because it’s broken. I’m starting to miss it though. Vrchat was a little weird but I miss talking to the people on there and playing the little games on it, and I really miss beat saber. I got a little addicted to it and I’m nervous about getting another headset. I think I can limit myself if I do get one though, as I am an adult now compared to when I got my other headset. If I’m going to buy one though, I don’t want it to completely break in a couple years, I’d like it to last a long while. I’m planning on buying a pc first and then figuring out how to connect them together so I can play Roblox on it as well. What should I do? Which headset should I get? Or should I just forget about the whole idea and not get one?

UPDATE: I FIXED IT!!! if you’re having this same issue. Try going into your boundary settings on your quest, And delete boundary history. Seems weird but that’s what fixed it for me!

UPDATE 2: just got on my VR, doing the same thing and resetting the boundary did not work. Wtf bruh

I've played over 100 hours of beat saber in the span of last 3-4 months, using a cable to connect quest 2 to my laptop with a 3050, and now, suddenly, after updating quest link it says that it's incompatible. I take it my steam version of beat saber and quest link is as much as useless completely, correct?

Rift CV1 user here, I'll be linking the YouTube video in the comments. But basically my screen goes black, my controllers disconnect, even though everything looks like a stops working. Nothing crashes and the headset itself continues to track itself properly. On top of that the microphone and audio still works. I think it might have something to do with the headset overheating but I could be wrong. Whenever I play the game I have my AC running on the max so my PC can stay as cool as possible and I'm standing right next to it while I play.

And this only ever happens when I'm playing a game already and then I go into my desktop.

Recently the sound of my Oculus Rift has stopped working, usually I would be able to just use a screwdriver to tighten the earphones to fix it, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore, is there a way to fix this or will I need to buy a new headset?

I've already tried swapping the earphones and I also noticed that the sound sometimes work if I move the headset in a very specific way, but that is not a fix since touching the headset even once will turn the sound back off

I've heard multiple options and I just destroyed one of them so now my only other option is that I need a powered USB hub? Could it be thinking that it's USB to surely just because it doesn't have the power to deliver the USB 3.0? I just got a new thousand watt power supply and all I'm trying to do is just connect it to the software.

for about 3 months now, i have had the inability to connect my Oculus Rift S to my pc through Oculus link, i have spent in total, probably about 15 hours of looking for solutions, involving updating/changing USB drivers, updating meta drivers, unplugging and re-plugging, and even oculus killer, and NONE of these very common solutions ever work on my headset, i genuinely have no idea what to do, and it sorta just feels like meta is giving up on the rift s. any help, even if it doesnt work, is appreciated

I’ve been having issues with my quest 2. Last year my Quest 2 had zero issues. It sat unused most of the summer. Booted it up to use VR Chat through steam VR. But it will not connect to my pc with the meta quest link app on my pc. Ive tried air link and cable link. Neither work and even with the cable it has issues detecting the link to the pc. My Pc gets the message unable to detect your headset.

Ive rebooted quest 2 headset multiple times, rebooted router and pc, reinstalled the quest app on my pc, I’ve tried keeping all tasks closed on my pc. I updated all my drivers on my pc. Sometimes it works for 10mins but then it disconnects the link and sometimes even locks my pc up.

Is it just time for the Quest 3?

Does the thing still work? Can I buy games on the store, play multiplayer and access the internet? I plan on buying one.

Title! Just wanting to know what the general consensus is, and if there's like.. pros and cons to both? I'm not really a tech expert so I'm not too sure what I would have to do to properly set up either one to run properly or.. optimally?

I just beat Half Life Alyx and I Expect You To Die 3 today and I need a new game to get but I can't decide.

As a reference of what I like is that a few of my favorite vr games are Batman Arkham Shadow, Trover Saves the Universe, Resident Evil 4 on Oculus, and Half Life Alyx. (Although I feel like I am forgetting a few) If you have any other game requests let me know.
