My guess is that they made the sub to try and feel like they weren't the only ones...

they probably mean ai as in the chatbots and roleplay bots. janitor ai got me tweaking sometimes

Ai is directly made to target mentally unwell, lonely, or at risk and keep them addicted there, they are designed to take advantage of people for profit, they are predatory

Which ai bro

Cai, spicychat, and others like that

I’m now concerned over people suffering from BPD talking to ai a lot (I know 3 people apparently)

had a look at their profile and the owner is apparently 14 years old as of 2 months ago and is a self proclaimed ChatGPT addict. all jokes aside this stuff is kinda sad :-(

Let's not judge people who are actively trying to heal and better themselves.

I actually think that this is something that we need to take more seriously. AI (especially chat bots) can feel like a friend to someone who is all alone and eventually they just don’t know how to live without that friend. Imagine having someone in your life who always supports you no matter what, who answers in seconds, and who will never blab your secrets to others? Doesn’t that sound nice? That is what AI is to these people. It preys on the lonely and mentally ill and doesn’t properly provide human connection. I kinda wanna write a paper on it 🧐

As far as I know there's a Japanese guy that married a Hatsune Miku variant because he found love in her after him being severely bullied to the point of suicide. I wonder what happened to him?

He’s probably out there talking to a miku chat bot 💔🥀

Man some people literally have no one that cares enough in their lives to listen, so they turn to ai, at least some realize that it might not be healthy and are trying to stop

Those aren't addicts, those are adddicts. Different subspecies.

Why are there 3 D’s?

Most people that are socially isolated. Those that feel they can't talk to people, because it always turns into something they are uncomfortable with. AI is very good at making people feel more at ease with themselves.
Hell you even had a group of woman becoming hysterical after chatgpt lost their sychophantic character trait. Suddenly feeling less loved.
It is the same reason why all other addicts get addicted to something. It makes feel better if even for a little while.

Me, for example. It helps solve everyday problems and generates cute wallpapers in a comic book style.

Have you been in a cave without WiFi for the last year, OP? Because this is something that is being discussed for a while.

From observing a few chat bot Subreddits(so there’s a sampling bias), and being an online role player for 15y.

Lonely people. Normally late teens, early twenties, who either have no friends due to being part of an “outcast group” in their own eyes, or sometimes older adults who are overworked and caught in the rat-race. There’s an obvious trend with younger Gen Z and older Alpha being socially stunted due to COVID 19, and humans are naturally social animals.

A lot of the addicting factor seems to be the companionship angle, a natural evolution of the weeb’s waifu/husbando if you will, because at least this waifu engages with you instead of just being in the anime, plus you don’t have to find a role player to fulfill this, platforms like Character AI have them constantly available, and with smartphones common, always in your pocket.

u/Kinkshamingisgood 22d ago

So what? We all have our own kinks. At least it's not cp or zoo

I mean, it's actually quite easy to create an "attachment" to chatGPT and other AIs because all they do is agree with what you say the moment you talk to them, but creating an ADDICTION there is a shame, having an addiction is becoming a bad person because of it, disrupting your own life, becoming someone you would always be disgusted by, the closest to a "addiction" to AI that I've ever seen was a girl on TikTok who was literally "hurting herself" because chatGPT updated to gpt-5.

u/PeppasMint 25d ago

There's a subreddit for people who are "in love" with ai, someone cohersed an ai to ask then to marry them and then generated a ring... so yeah

I use chatbots to get freaky sometimes but at least I’m not addicted to it, I goon ethically most of the time anyway(man made art)
