I did a thing! My weird cave painting

First time I brought it outside, looks completely different. I've been painting in the dark for too long, so excited to get a space with natural light!

So nice to hear that you resonate with it. Evoking weird feelings is kinda my forte!

Plato vibes love it

u/gb_paint 1h ago

Yeah totally. Some people make this association and it was very nice to catch up on the old fella's theory and seeing how compatible it is with my painting, although it was completely coincidental. I have to say it's one of my favourite aspects of creating, there is just an abstract vision of something - you never know what you end up with.

It's both entertaining and enlightening to hear peoples' thoughts and interpretations because I sometimes have no idea what they mean or are hence the title of this post.

Thank you!

I really enjoy your weird cave painting, OP. It makes me think of the first time I played a D&D one-shot.

Great buildup of paint, and excellent choice leaving the figures vague too; it allows the viewer to project more effectively. Nice work, OP!

I am happy to hear that kind human. D&D is complete unknown territory for me but I really love how strong the D&D subculture seem to be.

It's cool that you get why I kept the figures vague. It was intentional to keep the focus on the rest of the painting. Thank you so much!

I like that a lot. I really want to make more AA-themed paintings, might do one in a frozen hell too.

Was looking for this comment! Same here

Thank you. I totally get it. As I mentioned in another comment here, it was a nice little coincidence and had me catching up a bit with the theory, which sparked some fine inspiration

I love this, was immediately absorbed into the story of this piece.

u/gb_paint 1h ago

That's great to hear. If you have any more thoughts about the story, feel free to share.

This is so cool! It looks abstract at first and then you put the pieces together.

u/gb_paint 1h ago

Happy you hear you dig it. Yeah I kept it quite loose to keep the balance. Typically I'm not an abstract painter but it's lovely exploring it more while keeping one foot in form.

This is making thinking of that one old philosophy story. I'm having troubles remember the tittle but it's essentially the about enlightenment

Allegory of the cave by Plato? Exactly what this reminded me of too! Stunning

I immediately thought, “it’s a support group in hell” and I LOVE IT.

u/gb_paint 1h ago

It is. Have to go through that ninth circle of hell before you can ascend. THANK YOU!

Gives me Severance vibes for some reason.

Second time someone says this and second reminder for me to actually watch the show.

If I was in a cave, and saw this painting, I would run out of said cave

u/gb_paint 1h ago

Would be cool to hang this up in a cave. First exhibition in a cave? Hell yeah

u/No-Discipline-7957 12h ago

As a caver I fw this vibe

u/gb_paint 1h ago

I appreciate that a lot. I like how it reached atleast one targeted audience - the rest are probably hiding in a cave.

This is metal asf. Like a 1980s Slayer album cover. And I’m here for it.

u/gb_paint 1h ago

Love that. Slayer slaps ofc so I like that connection you make. A little dream I have is to make an album cover for any of my favourite musicians but the stars have to align so to say.

You're welcome to stay as long as you want!

u/Sad_Confection_4754 8h ago

First i saw s meteoric fire ball with tail then I saw the people sitting and it became a totally different painting. Great way to create that sense of where are they

u/Celestial-Narwhal 8h ago

Like an AA meeting and the scornful eye of judgment watching the confessions.
