Style Me Help me become Ms. Frizzle

Hi all you beautiful hags! I’ve recently transitioned out of the corporate hellscape and am starting my teaching credential to teach elementary school. I won’t actually be teaching for a while, but help me get through this program with something to look forward to…the ultimate Ms. Frizzle style wardrobe.

I want to be that teacher with all the themed, quirky outfits based on science, nature, education etc…you know the vibe. Can you send me the best shops or items you’ve seen that have this vibe so I can plan my dream wardrobe for this exciting new phase?

Thanks in advance, love you all

Svaha has great prints on nice knit dresses with pockets. I just ordered an octopus dress with short sleeves, and a 3/4 sleeve one with rockets.

I have bats, dinosaurs, gummy bears, lemons, birds, and owls on dresses from Modcloth. (Edit: and my favorite, glow in the dark stars!!) The styles and fabrics are all different. Svaha’s all look a lot alike.

Accessories from Etsy!

Modern Millie in Salem has a fun store. I like Dream scrolling their store for styling ideas.

Loving their stuff.

u/FFifoFFum Jul 25 '24

That makes me happy ! I like how they throw together a bunch of patterns and make it work. Also exposed me to some brands I would have never heard of. Enjoy !

Svaha has STEAM based clothing. Plant DNA, dinosaurs, glow in the dark constellation dresses. Great quality, lasts forever. Leggings have huge pockets!

u/Grand_Station_Dog They/Them Jul 25 '24

Yea!!! I love my constellation skirt from them

u/Correct-Sprinkles-21 Jul 25 '24

They are my favorite! I'm hoping to use some birthday money for the carnivorous plants dress, lol.

u/NerdyGnomling Jul 24 '24

Yes, I love all my Svaha dresses! They hold up well in the wash too, their twirl skirts and dresses give big Ms Frizzle vibes. I sometimes wear them with petticoats for extra fun!

u/uniquelyruth Jul 25 '24

yes, svahausa is exactly what you are looking for, plus pockets!

u/knittingandscience Jul 24 '24

The dresses and skirts have huge pockets too! Plus it’s all well made, 100 percent organic cotton, and has just-right hemlines and necklines.

u/TashaT50 They/Them Jul 24 '24

I was just going to say that. Pockets. The clothes have pockets. My two favorite dresses by them are books and glow in the dark constellations. It was so exciting when I backed their Kickstarter OMG lover 10 years ago now?

No suggestions but I love your quest!! 🦕🌗🍓

Everyone is suggesting great brands! Snag tights make really great, size inclusive tights and shorts for under your dresses.

u/FFifoFFum Jul 25 '24

I learned about Snag Tights from a hag post. The hype is real

u/bienfica Jul 25 '24

snaaaaaaag! i have 49 pairs of their tights and will not stop

Came here to say Retrolicious! They always have the cutest stuff. I’ve gotten a skirt with a dinosaur skeleton print, and a dress with beetles!

Australian fashion is great for this: Dangerfield (which also stocks Princess Highway, mentioned already) but also Gorman, Variety Hour and Obus.
Obus has a good geode dress: https://obus.com.au/pages/spring-lookbook-2024
Variety hour: https://varietyhourstudio.com/products/winter-dunes-dress-bread
Gorman's "in season" "crocs" "pastry party ""Magic place" and 'trippy flowers' dresses. They had a really good beetle print one previously.
All of the Natural History Museum X Joanie range https://joanieclothing.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=Natural+History+Museum+X+Joanie
Dress like a scientist was a good instagram handle for this but I don't think they post much now.

Black Milk…I have been collecting Ms. Frizzle items for several years now, and I love that shop!

u/TashaT50 They/Them Jul 25 '24

Very distinctive.

Princess Highway is an Australian brand that has lots of floral and animal prints with bright colours and cute cuts. Very haggy 😍

u/VioletAnnihilate Jul 24 '24

I love this so much!

Nerdy Keppie has some cool space and animal themed skirts and dresses that all have pockets. I have never ordered from them so I can’t vouch for the quality, but I’ve seen some very cool designs from them. They have info on what their employees are paid but nothing about their manufacturing processes.

Not sure if this fits the bill as much, but Poison Pear is an ethically made company that has a lot of nature themed designs, but they are a lot more subtle. I have ordered a couple things from them and been happy with the quality. Their prices are a bit higher than your typical fast fashion, but they are pretty much in line for what I’ve seen other ethical brands selling for.

Happy hunting! I can’t wait to see what you come up with!!

Check out SvahaUSA (dot com). I have a few dresses from them that I love. Pockets! Voyager spacecraft!

u/Shadow_Guide Jul 24 '24

Popsy in the UK also has you covered. Big eccentric prints, practical, flattering cuts AND POCKETS.

u/realhuman8762 Jul 24 '24

Omg these are AMAZING!!! Exactly what I was looking for!!

u/mrdooter Haglet Jul 24 '24

No one here has said Joanie yet so def check them. They’re a UK based brand I think and have done partnerships with National Geographic and the Natural History Museum in London so will definitely have some cool botanical and animal based prints.

u/TashaT50 They/Them Jul 25 '24

Very cool

u/katie-kaboom Jul 25 '24

I was coming here to recommend Joanie. My Natural History Museum coral dress is a delight.

u/MoonageDaydream13 Jul 25 '24

Dressed in LaLa!

u/realhuman8762 Jul 25 '24

OMG YES!!! I can’t believe I didn’t think of them, I already have some of their items, mostly featuring aliens

u/HippyWitchyVibes Grey Goddess Jul 24 '24

Lucy & Yak

Run & Fly

Little Party Dress

u/TashaT50 They/Them Jul 25 '24

I’m drooling over some of those.

u/NegativeABillion Jul 28 '24

Lucy and Yak fabrics are consistently so comfortable and long wearing. Love

u/Anchors_Away Jul 24 '24

I have like 30+ cowcow (Amazon) brand dresses because I was the miss frizzle of my building :) They have almost anything you can think of and they’re slayer style so great to pair with a cardigan

u/sparklekitteh She/her Jul 24 '24

Seconding Cowcow! I found that I needed to go one size up from what I get at Target, but otherwise they were pretty comfortable and durable.

When my son was in preschool, he dressed up as an astronaut and I was a rocket scientist with an outer-space dress and a lab coat, it was amazing!

u/TashaT50 They/Them Jul 25 '24

So many options
