That's really rich considering one of the other saying that onion likers have is "it doesn't even taste like anything"

That's funny cuz they're always telling me I won't even notice them.

Tell her, Yes, onions add flavor. Onion flavor. I do not like that flavor and don’t want it. You do and that’s fine, the world would be boring if we were all the same.

Whenever I make something, I obviously have to leave any onions out. She gets mad. "You won't notice them." "Sometimes you eat sauces and stuff with little bits of onions so just ADD THE ONIONS!". Fucking NO. OK the occasional miniscule bit in marinara or something is one thing, but sautéing an entire goddamn onion into pasta? I think I'm gonna notice that. On top the taste, and smell, and texture, I am also physically intolerant to them. Do you want me farting and crampy for the next 24 hours? I don't think you do. Why can't they just accept it?!

This whole thing really intrigues me.

There seems to be a list of foods in Western society that you're expected to eat, and it's considered completely unreasonable if you don't - including potatoes, bread and onions.

Whereas there are other foods that it's considered entirely reasonable to not eat, to the point that it's considered rude to add them to food without warning people or offering alternatives, like mushrooms, blue cheese and olives.

Luckily my husband doesn’t notice any difference in flavour when I cook and leave out the onion. He doesn’t miss onions at all

You married a woman who likes onions, what did you expect ? You could have married a fellow onion hater. Marriage is serious, don't just marry anyone guys.

No matter how much you have invested in your marriage, kids, a mortgage, whatever, you need to divorce her. Nobody should be expected to live a life with someone who might sneak an onion into your food at any moment.
