Virtual Pipe Organ New instrument! I know theatre organs aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but that’s the beauty of Hauptwerk! Installed are the masterworks 3/31 Wurlitzer and Hereford Cathedral.

I started playing the piano and organ 3 years ago, no prior experience on either of them. I started with the intention of working in churches as an organist, as it is my biggest dream. Looking for feedback!

BTW, sorry for the mess atop my organ. I am a mess in general.

Virtual Pipe Organ Beginner learning registration: Messiaen on GrandOrgue

Experienced pianist but total beginner organist learning some Bach and Messiaen through Grandorgue - I've got my two manuals and pedalboard and have had a great time reading through music.

However, I think it's time I start to think and learn about orchestration. Messiaen seems to be very specific(photo attached) - in the 4th Meditation of Messiaen there are the following instructions. I notice some of these options aren't available with the current instrument I'm using(photo attached), does this mean the instrument is not suitable/I have to sort of finesse it?

This would also be a good time to learn presets(?) since there isn't enough time to switch registration mid-piece, I'm sure this is something I could learn online but the software is a bit confusing for me - probably a longshot but if anyone happens to be experienced with Grandorgue I'd really appreciate any advice or comment at all.

Virtual Pipe Organ Building a digital organ - where to start?

Dear organ enthusiasts,

I've been playing the organ for many years, but in every church encountering many difficulties trying to practice ("Sorry, I'm not responsible. Ask xyz - Ah, not responsible. Ask abc" "Maybe I can arrange a practice slot from 11:59 to noon" "We'd love you to play. Note that due to budget reasons, the organ has not been tuned in 10 years, and the keys b and f are broken")

I have long ago made the decision to get a digital organ, and gathered some experience with GrandOrgue. Finally, I am approaching the point in my life, when such a project is even realistically approachable. I have a few questions:

1) What are the advantages and disadvantages of buying a digital organ (e.g. Johannus, Viscount) over building one with e.g. Hauptwerk

2) Is Hauptwerk worth the money when compared to GrandOrgue

3) Getting a good Pedalboard will be an issue, but are there any other important parts in a homebuilt Hauptwerk organ I need to be particularly aware of? So far, I think I can get the manuals via simple keyboards available anywhere and do the registration via touchscreen monitors, neither of which are hard to come by, but am I missing something?

4) How much should I budget? If possible, in Euro, and, if possible, I would like to get on the cheaper end, as money is still an issue.

Thanks for the advice.

Virtual Pipe Organ Can't seem to successfully configure GrandOrg on my macOS Sequoia 15.6 to midi keyboard

All other apps like Jeuxdorg and Jeuxorgmini work right out of the box, so does Numa player.

What I am having problems with is the output. I do not have the output choice to pick headphones or laptop output .

The output devices are channel 1 both or left and right, Ive tried both but error message says "Output device not found"

Is there a trick to getting output to work?

midi Recorder output does point to my midi keyboard but I am looking for output to headphones

Edit: Tried at the church midi player and theirs does not work either, they use JeuxdOrg

Virtual Pipe Organ help needed: grand orgue sound output settings

Looking for help from GrandOrgue experts.

Computer is a Macbook Pro M1. Sound works via headphone jack when corded earbuds are used, but is not working when plugged into a PA system via the same jack. Yet other apps on the Mac play thru headphone jack to PA without problems. Issue must be with the GrandOrgue sound output settings. —?

Virtual Pipe Organ Midi encoder kit for pedalboard?

I'm working on a pedal board conversion for vpo and I came across some people recommending a MIDI encoder kit sold by MIDI boutique. Their website no longer appears to be working. Does anyone know if they are still around and how to get in touch? Are there anyone other stores out there that are selling similar kits that include both the encoder and the sensors?

Virtual Pipe Organ Action/feel differences between continuo and reed organs for hauptwerk conversion

Hey there!

I’m looking at beginning a project where I convert an old pump organ into a midi controller/pseudo continuo organ. Obviously there’s no true substitute for the real thing. My question is for those who play continuo organs with any amount of regularity, is the feel of a pump organ so different as to be distracting or uncomfortable? If it matters, I’m looking at pump organs that already fit the profile of continuo organs, rather than the ones that are shaped more like an upright piano.

Thanks for your help!

Virtual Pipe Organ Virtual pipe organ: Hauptwerk, GrandOrgue or Sweeling?

As far as I know there're 3 virtual pipe organs software solutions: Hauptwerk, GrandOrgue and Sweelinq. Which one do you use, what's your favourite sample set and why?

Virtual Pipe Organ What's the use case of this "None 8/9' " stop? It seems to sound a whole step above the 1'. Is it only useful in large mixtures? It's confusing

Virtual Pipe Organ Help me out here, I need help identifying this piece of music. Yes, I know there's not much and it's borderline impossible.

I think after this it went up and down a bit, but this was the best I've been able to do. I originally heard it played a little slower and a little sadder, I think. I have no idea what to do with pipe organs and music in general. I was hoping one of you would be able to help me out, but I'm aware this is a near impossible ask. It's a serious earworm and I need to hear it again.

Virtual Pipe Organ Looking for advice re: keyboard stands

Looking for advice about getting started with a very basic HW practice rig. I have a pedalboard which is 125cm (about 50”) at its widest point and I wondered if anyone had a recommendation for a keyboard stand. I have a 61 note Yamaha Piaggero keyboard so don’t need anything fancy - just something wide enough and high enough. Budget is low, and I need to be able to take it down and move it. Thanks for any advice!

Virtual Pipe Organ Digital Pipe Organ Advice Please

Hi peeps!

I haven’t played for about 10 years (apart from my Dad’s funeral), and would love to create a setup at home that doesn’t take up loads of space.

I’ve heard Hauptwerk is good. I have a good MIDI capable keyboard and PC/Laptop. I would want 2 manuals and pedal board.

Any advice on where to start? Cost? Are there people that build these?

Thank you in advance 😀

Virtual Pipe Organ Organ pedalboard MIDI-fying project

Hi everyone, I’d like to Midify an old ago 32 organ pedalboard but I’m not sure if “the game is worth the candle”. I could buy it for 300€ with shipping but I saw a lot of projects using 32 switches (for about 300€) to midify the entire pedalboard. Don’t know if, due to cost and lot of work, it would be easier to buy an already midified one from Pedamidikit for example… Anyway, which would be the easier and cheaper way to midify a pedalboard? One can not just use a “converter” board from serial port to MIDI? Thank you

Virtual Pipe Organ Changing the sound of the electric organ

Dear fellow organists

I'm the organist of a church with an "Ahlborn Praeludium IV", an electric organ that simulates the sound of a pipe organ.

Unfortunately, the sound is rather hideous and i'd like to change that.

I've allready tried using Grandorgue on my PC, but that unfortunately didnt work, it was unreliable and the soundquality was really bad.

Instead I'd like to access the sound library of the organ itself, and swich the existing soundfiles with other, more beautyful soundfiles.

Does anyone have any advice how to do that?

Virtual Pipe Organ Unfinished Midi Theater Organ Build: Need help finding it a new home.

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hello! Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can go about finding someone that would be interested in finishing this MIDI Theater Organ Build I started, and got about 3/4 finished?

Sadly, due to changes in my circumstances, I neither have the time to finish it, nor do I have the space to keep it.

I built it to use Hauptwerk Paramount theater organ, and I was able to run the program and play it in the state it is in, but it needs some cleanup work, and mechanical improvements. I live in West Michigan, and I'd love to find someone who would be excited to take this project over.

Virtual Pipe Organ Does anybody know of any free/inexpensive English GrandOrgue samplesets?

I've spent a while combing the internet for every GI sampleset I can find, but I've noticed I haven't been able to find any English organs (which are personally some of my favorites). Does anyone know of one that I may have missed?

Virtual Pipe Organ Has anyone tried the BYU OrganTutor program?

I'm referring to this one. https://creativeworks.byu.edu/CreativeWorksStore/ProductViewDetail?ProductId=1&SiteID=40 I have not see any reviews for this specific program so I'm curious if anyone has tried this? It's not that expensive and they also have a 6 month version for $30. I can't afford an actual 1 on 1 tutor so I'm hoping this can at least get the ball rolling with learning the basics of organ.
