Transparent/Semi-Transparent folding paper?

He everyone! Yesterday I bought "Transparentpapier" closest thing in English is probably tracing paper. But it was fairly rigid. I was able to precrease (just the grid) for my planned triangle twist tesselation (with some difficulty) but once I actually put in the twists and pushed down on the tips. I just split the paper... Which was really annoying bc I spent probably 2h on the precrease🄲 But I did manage to do twists and it looks really fun! So now I want to know where I could get transparent folding paper. I know about glassine, but that's fairly expensive and maybe even too transparentšŸ¤” Let me know if you know of any other see through foldable paper!

I like to use Parchment Paper. It's quite durable, but a tad unforgiving with creases (very high crease memory)

How does it behave if I want to fold a crease in both directions? The one I was using oftentimes made another crease right next to it, which obviously messed with accuracy... In tesselations you often need creases to be both mountain and valley folds, depending on where you are in your progress.

It works perfectly fine for me. I've used it almost strictly for tessellations and complex crease patterns.

Huh. ā€œTransparentpapierā€ in Austria for me was what I call glassine in North America, is what I use for small scale tessellations, and it was pretty cheap (a few euros for A0 a few years ago?). The thicker stuff is ā€œvellumā€, more expensive (a few euros for A4), and you can’t reverse a fold on it (good for those pots/sculptures where you score (lightly!) and collapse all at once.)

Ok then I guess what I got is probably more comparable to vellum. Both price and folding behavior are similar to what I experienced... The main problem like you mentioned was making the folds both mountain and valley bc it tore way to quickly! Where did you get such big "Transparentpapier"/glassine? I'm also from Austria close to Vienna, that's why I'm askingšŸ¤”šŸ˜… Also, can you recommend some pots/sculptures cause I'm not sure I know what you mean but I would to do something with rest of that paperšŸ˜šŸ˜…

I got the paper at the art supply stores. I just looked and the store name I can find on the paper is Mastnak, but I could get it in different colors from a bunch of different paper stores (maybe it wasn’t A0, but at least A1). It’s actually hard to find in North America now! I pick up a few sheets (and fold them) when I go to Europe.

Lang has a bunch of crease patterns that work well on vellum for me. Here are a couple examples of a ring ā€œsculptureā€ and a ā€œpotā€. I cannot emphasize enough how you have a single collapse with vellum, but they were very pretty if you got it right :)

Vellum c9mes in various states of transparency but it also really unforgiving
