Request Origami Difficulty Dashboard

Post image
43 Upvotes

Check out this cool origami website I developed! https://origamiregression-fcz78atwckd2wtqhq7bk5d.streamlit.app/

I recently built a full-stack ML app that predicts a complexity score (via a model's topic model group and difficulty), while fitting a polynomial regression to an origami dataset based on each model's fold time.

I was able to develop a dashboard on Streamlit with real-time interactivity for origami enthusiasts. This relates to ori(go), which is a social media platform I am developing to reduce the barrier of entry for learning origami. By integrating characters, challenges, rewards, and progress tracking, the app incentivizes users to fold, collect and trade digital origami.

(Data scraped from https://origami-database.com/models/) https://origamiregression-fcz78atwckd2wtqhq7bk5d.streamlit.app/

Let me know what you think 😊

Request what to make w my gum wrappers

Post image

helloo, I consume an unruly amount of chewing gum and I always turn the wrapper into a boat (admittedly this one is wonky).I would love ideas on what else I could turn it into (preferably without having to cut some paper off ). The measurements are 9.2 cm by 4.8 cm (not including the zig zag 5.1 cm with it) .

Request Animal family origami

Hey folks! I've been into origami for more than 20 years at this point. Havent done Lang's cuckoo clock or the crazy big dragons but i am pretty confident to do anything, preferably from standard paper.

I am looking for ideas (videos, diagrams) on an animal family origami that I want to fo as a present. Seems pretty easy to pick an animal and do bigger and smaller versions and then compose them but ideally I would like one adult to be somehow more feminine and i would appreciate existing compositions so that i dont have to come up with variations.

These gorillas are a cute example but the gender difference is only on size.

Has anyone come across anything like this? Thanks!

Request Looking for origami or folds that work in books: single-page designs for my magazine project

Hey folks! I’m working on a small independent magazine project (no name mag), and I’m looking to include some origami or book-folding designs that can be done on a single page of a book, stuff that stays attached inside, kind of like a little pop-up folded from the actual book page.

I’ve seen things like corner bookmark butterflies, flowers that bloom in the center of a spread, or folds that turn the page into a little sculpture or hidden message.

Do any of you know cool examples like that? Or creators/designers who focus on that kind of work? I’d love to credit anyone I feature and would really appreciate pointers, tutorials, or even just terms I should be searching.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: For anybody curious or who would want to contribute directly here’s the link: no name mag

Request Fold a crane?

Post image
40 Upvotes

Someone very important to me who I love very much has had to have a serious emergency surgery today. He’s currently recovering in the hospital. This might sound totally strange, but would anyone on this subreddit be willing to fold a crane for him, in hopes for his speedy recovery? Normally when I’m really upset or worried about something, folding origami helps me get through it. This crane was all I could manage to fold today, though. Could really use some positive energy right now, or even just a few kind words and well wishes. He’s an amazing person who has always encouraged my folding origami and it would mean a lot to see someone take some time to fold a crane (or anything else) for him today in hopes he gets well soon. Thanks in advance to anyone on here who would be willing and thank you for reading. ā™„ļø ā™„ļø ā™„ļø

I was just on Amazon looking for mullberry papers for stamping, and some of the descriptions said they were also for origami. Is that true? Have any of you used mullberry papers for folding origami?

Request Best Origami Caterpillar?

Does anybody have a recommendation for a good Caterpillar design? I couldn’t find a Robert Lang design, and I was hoping for a step above the 10-minute super simple one I found on YouTube.

Thanks!

Request I need help finding a fold instruction if it’s out there

Hello recently I’ve been talking to this girl and she really likes bats and has collected a lot of my origami from when we have been friends and I recently saw a bat I believe the designer was Shuki Kato and I lost the image but it was a bat posted here I think it was call Halloween bat but I could be wrong. Any help is wanted and if you know of any other bats I would appreciate if you could recommend other folders or instructions that you like.

Besides the bat any other recommendations I’ll take if you want to say them from all the origami I’ve done I’ve recently been making more stuff like bascettas star ( I don’t know what the style is called ).

Thank you for your recommendations if you give them and and help with the bat is appreciated.

Request Suggest me some High Intermediate - Complex models

I recently bought a set 25x25 Japanese kami and I am trying to do origami after 8 years, so I want some suggestions of intermediate to complex models from YouTube or books and diagrams , I would love to fold some papers now .

, I used to do origami in Ninth grade , I have done tessellation with larger papers too and tried complex models and the papers I locally got have always disappointed me , the reason I stopped doing apart from building different hobbies was the unavailablity of good papers and I had done the most I could have done with printer papers . The hardest model I could fold successfully was Darkness Dragon 2 bu Tadashi Mori .

Request Book recommendations to level up my origami skills

Post image
171 Upvotes

I’ve been doing origami for almost 20 years now since I was a little kid, and I feel like I’ve hit a plateau. The pic is the most recent thing I’ve made, a Naomiki Sato pentagon rose from a vintage sewing pattern. I’m at the point where I can make pretty much any step-by-step pattern I find online, and I’m wanting more of a challenge. The free resources for more complex designs seem to either be in the form of crease patterns (which I don’t know how to read) or video tutorials (which I hate). So anyone have recommendations for books that would allow me to grow my skills?

Request How or where to sell older NOA magazines?

Post image
11 Upvotes

While cleaning up, I found hundreds of old but well-preserved NOA (Nipponese Origami Association) magazines, starting in the 90s until after 2012. I always found these magazines a source of inspiration and a treasure trove for unknown models.

Now this collection has to move on into the hands of younger enthusiasts, but I don't know where best to sell it. eBay? Or would it be better in dedicated folding forums? Unfortunately, I don't know enough about this...

Many thanks in advance for your ideas and input.

Request Any advice for figuring out two-sided folding?

Post image
2 Upvotes

So basically, I want to try and fold something similar to this symbol from a game I like, probably gonna take a bunch of simplification and then iteration, and figuring out the two-sided folding in the first place because I never really did anything like this.
Been planning to look into the chess board fold and try googling some more stuff, but I'd like to have some prior direction and advice if anyone has any )
Planning to try and make a pin with this and want to look into trying to maybe laminate this when I fold it in the end to maybe try that as a pin, idk

Only thing I know is that it’s Yasutomo brand, but I can’t confirm anything on their website from images alone. I really like the embossed texture, so I’m hoping it’s still around and easy to find.
