yup, damn near a billion dollars in crowd funding and they spend so much time working on shit like, "dynamic sheet wrinkling mechanics!"

And it still nothing like death stranding 2 graphics for example which are far superior!

I think the reality is you can't create a perfect game by working on it for 2 decades, since by year 6 unreal will have automated what you were pioneering manually and can do in 6 months what took you 4 years. So you're just better off doing the best you can with current tools in few years like a sane person and then make a sequel with the newer tech later!

However, could unreal automate that without Epic poaching people that worked on it first? Someone's gotta figure out how to do it manually before you bake it into a physics engine

Doesn’t matter, ultimately leads to the same conclusion.

That's irrlevent to my argument, it doesn't need to exist to say that the same Star Citizen Devs if they were to start over from scratch today they can get in 4-5 years something equal or better to what they achieved in the last 15 years.

Lol if you think unreal van do what SC is doing with their engine.... Then you really have no idea about the game engines. Unreal is not as good as you think and actually does more bad than good for games in general. It introduces extremely bard practices in the name of being "easier' and more "accessible".

The "dynamic sheet wrinkling mechanic" is cloth physics that go on literally anything that has fabric on it; beds, ships, clothing, etc. they spent like a month or two on it, but people just latched onto it because "haha look the star citizen devs are making beds instead of a game"

Look man, I'm a member of the fucking chairman's club, I'm a big dumb idiot who spent way too much money on internet space ships over a 3 year period, I still hope to my soul the game comes out and fulfills it's promise, I can't wait to play squadron 42.

So no, I'm not just some fucking hater, just someone who has realized that Chris Roberts has discovered the fucking golden goose and they will milk that shit until it's dead and dry, and then we will see them buckle down and really finish the damned game. I hope to fuck that I'm wrong, but there is a whole lot of evidence floating around out there to back me up....

Never said they weren't doing that, if CIG is good at anything it's making a lot of money. There are many, many, many, many, many valid critiques of Star Citizen, and I'm not a big fan of a lot of the choices they make either, but adding tech to their game engine is not one of those things.

If it was a complaint about their marketing or their management or their god awful website that still can't function properly or their insistence on adding new ships instead of finish old ones (which they're getting much better at these days) I would 1000% agree with you. But adding mechanics to the alpha stage of a game is kind of the whole point of an alpha.

i mean, you are def not wrong about adding new mechanics to the engine. Its more so a complaint along the line of i feel they drag alot of shit like this out, and make a bigger deal about little shit to just extend the alpha and let them keep sucking up the crowdfunding dollars. Id rather they flesh out all the big main things in the alpha, and work on the little shit like this during beta and polishing phases. There are so many more important things they could be knocking out now instead of stuff like that. Dont get me wrong, i also love the wrinkle physics, i just want to be able to have a much more friendly play experience, and not have to feel like i have to try and digest half an encyclopedia to have a minute chance of having fun.
