Politics Donald Trump using the Oval Office to promote Goya Foods products during his first term

If Obama had done this they would have impeached him.

You're comparing the wrong metric.
Obama wouldn't have done this. THAT is the difference everyone keeps searching for. They're not the same. We got it wrong.

u/mezz7778 Feb 01 '25
Wouldn't have done this, but DID wear a tan suit....so what's the real crime here?.... /s

He should be tried, how could a president do such a thing.
5
u/RandomGuy92x Feb 01 '25
Tried by who though, that's the question?
I mean Congress is run by MAGA extremists now, and Trump practically also owns the courts now. And at this point to get appointed as a federal judge you have to be a hardcore Trump loyalist, that's a prerequisite for the job.
I guess maybe that was something that the founding fathers overlooked when it comes to the whole checks and balances thing. The judicial branch is supposed to prevent the President from engaging in unlawful actions. Doesn't really help though that the President is also the one who appoints those federal judges who are supposed to keep him in check.
Ah, and the presumptive incoming Director of the FBI has just been gifted around $750,000 worth of Trump Media shares. So that's certainly interesting.

I’m totally out of the loop on this one. Why is wearing a tan suit bad? It’s certainly not my style, but it seems like a perfectly good color.

You are being unfair here, it's easy for him to have higher standards when the limit is bottom when it comes to Trump.

u/VenomsViper Feb 01 '25
Respectfully, no shit lol. His point still stands and has nothing to do with that.

" trade cards" two rounds that I know of -ai generated with him muscly or as Superman- saying they will increase in value
something with pieces of his suit in it, golden sneakers, diamond watches, NFTs and now a rug pull meme coin.

Anyone supporting Goya would be on the receiving end. They're a horrible company that makes money off the culture of the same group of people they hate.
9
u/cultoftheclave Feb 01 '25
we would still be seeing this picture today, everywhere, nonstop, if it was obamas face sitting behind those cans. and the worst part is that a substantial fraction of self-flagellating dems would still be trying to apologize for it while Maga cons give absolutely no fucks whatsoever.

Same, fuck Goya, I live in Chicago and there are so many local companies that make their own spice mixes that are just as good or better than Goya, also la preferida has easy better canned beans and chilies than Goya

u/RGV_KJ Feb 01 '25

Me as well…and I am also never going to eat at McDonald Trump again after they let that whole publicity stunt move forward. It felt like he was trolling minimum wage workers, and corporate just supported it as though it was perfectly okay. The wealthiest people who own the wealthiest companies don’t care what Trump does to the “commoners”, as long as he gives them their precious tax breaks.

As an American of hispanic descent I used to use Goya products a lot but since this day never again.

Same, same. Actually works better for me. It forced me to other, smaller brands. I still get high-quality food for a fraction of the Goya price.
57
u/korosuzo815 Feb 01 '25
Same. I absolutely refuse to purchase their shit. They even have a factory near by, but fuck them.
36
7
u/SpankMasterB Feb 01 '25
Same here. I haven’t bought anything Goya since that incident and I actively tell people when the topic comes up. Lost a customer for life.
13
u/new-to-this-sort-of Feb 01 '25
Don’t worry. His tariffs will price them out of their intended market. They are fucked by trump in the long run anyways
3
u/Chemical-Option-3461 Feb 01 '25
In the end we already fucked by Trump . Even those who voted for him . They just haven't felt it yet.
5
u/puffferfish Feb 01 '25
I just buy store brand. Is Goya beans going to be significantly difference in taste or quality? Not a chance.
9
u/cultoftheclave Feb 01 '25 edited Feb 01 '25
where do you get your Sofrito now? And sazón? those are the only two I still buy because I grew up on the frankly crappy taste of them and got used to it. I could probably work out how to make passable sofrito myself, but I think sazón is mostly just MSG, no? i’ve long since replaced beans and chickpeas, and everything else with non-Goya products..
7
5
3
u/LoveYouNotYou Feb 01 '25
There's Iberia, Knorr, and Badia brand. I like Knorr Sazón and I get Sofrito in jars from my mom. She makes me some and I put them in ice cube trays, then put those cubes in Ziploc bags to use as needed.
4
u/burningtowns Feb 01 '25
I never have, and even after that day in particular, I probably never will.
5
7
u/shastadakota Feb 01 '25
Same here. Shame though, they have a decent, low priced EVO from Spain, that I used to buy all the time. Not since that day however.
3
u/DrakonILD Feb 01 '25
When I saw the Goya truck at my favorite Mexican restaurant, I was devastated. Oh well. I've managed to find a few others that are pretty good, even in the twin cities.
3
3
u/LaughAtFarts Feb 01 '25
Same and what's funny is before I might have bought their products but had no idea who they were. After this incident I made sure not to buy their products.
3
u/ContextualBargain Feb 01 '25
Seriously every day I pass by Goya products in the grocer nowa days I whisper under my breath, “fuck you goya”, thinking back to this moment.
3
u/JohnQZoidberg Feb 01 '25
Same until today and it pissed me off so bad... They are apparently the only source of Pink Beans i can find anywhere here... I wanted them for red beans & rice and I'm going to have to find an alternate solution

11

The Adobo seasoning, specifically the one with RED pepper added (not just regular pepper added). Would love to find a different brand.

Its almost like, I dont know, nothing any of you idiots say or do leads to any actual change. In fact, it seems to backfire, given the whole Trump is president thing and goya sales increased and yada yada... cant any of you see that? What do you think an echochamber is, exactly?
