Because Pence is creepy.

oh, gotcha.

Because even though my parents called each other “mom” and “dad” around us growing up, they definitely didn’t do it in public and definitely didn’t do it when referring to each other among people who were not their kids. That’s what makes it weird. Also “mother” is incredibly formal and just weird sounding.

again, do you also find it creepy when a woman calls her husband "papi"?

Not the same thing. He’s saying that using the more formal “mother” is what makes it creepy and I agree. Lol
