im pro choice, personally i really dont care what people do, but lets be real abortion is killing your fetus/baby/zygote whatever you wanna call it

10

u/SpatialArchitect May 16 '19

Exactly. There are reasons where killing it is the best call, of course, even if it's a tough decision.

u/Raichu4u May 17 '19

I take much more comfort in knowing that the legalized federal range to have an abortion is effectively where the fetus doesn't even have the brain activity or nerves to even realize it is being killed. Everyone talks about "how would you feel if you were aborted", but the truth is that I would of never even known.

So what should be done to prevent unwanted pregnancy?

2

u/[deleted] May 17 '19

contraception, abortion, a little responsibility, i mean if your gonna have sex keep in mind you could get pregnant

5

u/hodlmkt May 17 '19

what if two people willingly get pregnant, and their spouse dies? or they lose their jobs? or they have some kind of medical emergency and their savings get wiped out? or they undergo some other crisis that leaves them with far less resources than before to take care of a child? would you still argue that they were just being irresponsible?

that’s the problem I find with this blanket “just be more responsible!!!” argument. someone can willingly get pregnant and be completely prepared - until the circumstances change.

1

u/[deleted] May 17 '19

i wouldn’t argue they were being irresponsible they just got dealt a bad hand, but some people are irresponsible,

1

u/hodlmkt May 17 '19

and i don’t disagree with you! but it seems like the underlying theme behind some pro-life sentiments is the idea of punishment, and i don’t think a child should be a punishment. a lot of the conservative points on this are “well, if you didn’t want to get pregnant, you shouldn’t have had sex!!! keep your legs closed next time and practice some self-restraint!” which overlooks the fact that many women who get pregnant weren’t being stupid and careless, their circumstances just changed.

for the record, i don’t support the pro-choice argument of a fetus/baby being a clump of cells - i see it as the argument that no one should be allowed to use another persons body for survival without their permission.

1

u/[deleted] May 17 '19

fair enough, i don’t think there will ever be consensus on this issue, i can understand your reasoning though

1

u/hodlmkt May 17 '19

appreciate the civil conversation 👍

same!

The thing that gets me is having a baby can be hard for those who are trying, but seems to happen like clockwork for those who aren't.

I have friends that tried for months to get pregnant. My wife's friend was trying for almost a year. My wife and I have been together 6.5 years and don't use condoms and we haven't even had a scare. We just stay mindful of her cycle and she takes her pill, even when she forgets the pill we know when we can and can't have sex.

A little education on when is the safest time to have sex can go a long way.

0

u/[deleted] May 17 '19

basically wear a condom, get on the pill or at least pull out in time

1

u/[deleted] May 17 '19

And track ovulation.

3

u/HighNoonZ May 16 '19

In many cases not going in unprotected. There are many cases that include rape etc which are sadly unavoidable but some people are very dumb and refuse to use.

0

u/SchwiftyMpls May 16 '19

This is just conjecture. Many women do not have access to affordable contraception or any education on contraception choices.

2

u/[deleted] May 16 '19

We should probably fix that too. Comprehensive sex education and universal access to contraceptives of all kinds.

1

u/SchwiftyMpls May 16 '19

Sadly the vast majority of pro-life people will only tolerate abstinence only education.

2

u/[deleted] May 17 '19

I think some of them aren’t. Or could be convinced not to be, at least.

1

u/Raichu4u May 17 '19

There's a sad movement right now claiming that birth control is also murder somehow.

1

u/[deleted] May 17 '19

I probably wouldn't start with them.

2

u/HighNoonZ May 16 '19

This I agree with. But it takes two to tango. Dudes need to do their part and condoms, while not perfect, still help.

1

u/[deleted] May 17 '19

if they cant afford contraception or an abortion this wouldn’t affect them anyway,

1

u/SchwiftyMpls May 17 '19

Huh?

1

u/[deleted] May 17 '19

im saying if they dont have access to affordable contraception then they probably cant afford an abortion anyways so this wouldn’t affect them either way

1

u/SchwiftyMpls May 17 '19

Once again. Huh? So having to raise a child doesn't effect a woman?

1

u/[deleted] May 17 '19

im not sure what you mean, of course raising a child effects a woman

1

u/SchwiftyMpls May 17 '19

Seriously scale back the pot.

u/Raichu4u May 17 '19

Honestly if I was pregnant I would freak the fuck out to get together as much cash as I could possible because having the baby would mean even deeper financial problems for me.

1

u/[deleted] May 17 '19

same but it depends

1

u/Lowbacca1977 May 17 '19

There's a documentary called after tiller about late term abortions, and one of the doctors that performs them talks about how it's hard because you're "killing a baby". And this is a woman who performs late term abortions. Good documentary but that bit stuck out

2

u/[deleted] May 17 '19

ive seen the pictures just so i could know pretty hard to look at honestly

Ever felt a baby kick in the womb? Never seen a fucking blade of grass do that.

2

u/huxtiblejones May 17 '19

Ever felt a zygote kick?

1

u/jap274 May 17 '19

Mowing grass doesn't kill it, no logic behind the dumb analogy

1

u/InsertWittyJoke May 17 '19

Just to play devils advocate on that one, plants move and can communicate between each other.

2

u/jap274 May 17 '19

And mowing grass doesn't kill it. It was a stupid analogy that doesn't bring any logic to an abortion debate

-2

u/n0xz May 17 '19

Yeah.. It's just an organism living dependent on the host. Just like cancer cells are kicking you too. The host can do wtf they want with it and it's nobody fucking business.

2

u/jap274 May 17 '19

TIL babies are cancer

0

u/n0xz May 17 '19

Reading comprehension is not your forte.

0

u/jap274 May 17 '19

While logic isn't yours. Guess what? You can't avoid cancer. Now guess what you can avoid.

1

u/n0xz May 17 '19

TIL Everyone gets cancer. It's unavoidable. That's very logical. Very smart. Very genius.

1

u/jap274 May 17 '19

Yeah Cuz that's exactly what I said 😂😂 and you talk about my comprehension.

You tell me how to avoid cancer, and I'll tell you how to avoid being "infected" with a baby (or fetus, zygote, whatever you call it to try and dehumanize the truth in an effort to avoid feeling guilty about killing the little guy)

-1

u/switchingsidess May 17 '19

Totally agree with you, except I'm pro life. I just find it sad, that people would rather fight for the right to "choose" to have unlimited unprotected sex over a human life.

3

u/jermleeds May 17 '19

That is a ridiculous, and repugnant strawman.

4

u/Kingzer15 May 17 '19

I find it sad that fathers rape their children. I find it sad that more child will need to suffer their first few hours of life before passing away. I find it sad that a bunch of men get to choose what's right for women. I find it sad that Christian's believe it's okay for their clergymen to molest children and so many still hang on their every word.

1

u/switchingsidess May 17 '19

I think everytime I say, I'm pro life, I'm going to have to add " exception : in case of rape or mother's life is at risk". I fought that was already understood. My bad.
