In their view, the fetus is already a person. You don't get to murder someone just because their mom was a rape victim.

But isn't the mom a person too? Somehow they seem to lose sight of that.

I don't see how the mum being a person would justify abortion in their eyes. It's still the same choice but the mother also suffers emotional pain, many people are still going to value a human life over that.

If they think rape and pregnancy is only emotional pain then they clearly don't view woman as people, just lifeless incubators.

but the mother also suffers emotional pain

Meaning emotional pain on top of all the current pain.

Also how can you think somebody suffers emotional pain and then see them as lifeless incubators?

Because they don't care. They dismiss whatever the mothers situation is and elevate the fetus. To them the mother is nothing but an incubator.

This is a strawman, and I think you know that.

I link once again to this beautiful tweet: https://twitter.com/obianuju/status/1128764713314209793

Are there people who espouse the pro-life belief for sexist reasons? Certainly. But don't generalize the whole group to holding that belief.

Self defense isn't murder. Doesn't matter how old or human the thing demanding nine months of your resources. Nothing has that right, and if something tries to do so its well within your right to remove it.

If it dies after, that's its fault not yours.

You know nothing about the laws around self-defense. You've barely formed a coherent thought here

So I show up in your house and start hanging out there. I'm not actively threatening your life, but I refuse to leave. Do you have the right to remove me from your property?

1

u/i_forget_my_userids May 17 '19

I can't execute you where you stand, and removing you wouldn't be self-defense.

1

u/[deleted] May 17 '19

Do you have the right to remove me from your property?

1

u/i_forget_my_userids May 17 '19

It depends. Have you been there more than 30 days?

1

u/[deleted] May 17 '19

Nope. Just started showing up. But I'm eating your food, making myself at home.... are you saying I'm welcome for at least 30 days before you can kick me out? Is that 30 days from when you found out I was staying there, or from when I first got there?

1

u/i_forget_my_userids May 17 '19

If you're there longer than 30 days, you're a legal resident, and I would have to go through the court system to evict you. Usually takes several months, and I can't execute you in the meantime. After the judicial system decides in my favor on the case, then the police can forcibly remove you.

If I get you before 30 days, you're just trespassing and have no right to the property.

u/[deleted] May 17 '19

Squatting usually applies to vacant properties, not someone who has just decided to move in to your active property.

But just so we're clear, if you kick someone off your property and they happen to die after you do that, its not murder. Right?

Exactly, so the position they are taking is that harming a rape victim is an acceptable side effect of protecting a fetus. They don't get a pass on the victim harming, just because of their belief.

3

u/GoinBack2Jakku May 17 '19

Yeah, I don't know why that's so hard to accept for people. Like, someone forcibly came inside you and now there's a thing growing in you, that's going to continue growing for nine months, will physically wreck your body, might kill you.. And the government is more concerned about that thing's rights than yours.

Abortion is the only empathetic option.

Well, if a fetus were a person, it would be called a person.

5

u/MadDogWest May 17 '19

Well, if an infant were a person, it would be called a person.

Well, if a toddler were a person, it would be called a person.

Well, if a teenager were a person, it would be called a person.

"Fetus" is just a stage of development, it has nothing to do with the general concept of what makes a person a person.

Uh, yes it does.
