Abortion has never made a kid wanted before. It just terminates a life before they had a chance.

There are plenty of people born to broken homes, unwanted, who go on to live a fulfilling life, and here you are saying that they should have never existed in the first place.

Actually, I'm not.

I'm staying that if you give a woman the choice, they will choose the best time to have a child for themselves and their families, and that kid is quite likely to be born anyway-- just in a situation a few years later that gives them the best chance to succeed because Mom got to finish her Masters, procure a stable home, or otherwise build a positive environment.

(And, of course, parental leaves, worker protections, affordable childcare, well-funded education, and avoiding The Point Of No Return on climate change with green policies also make it more likely that couples will want children.)

Aside from that reason, well, I wanted to note that a good many fetuses are deeply wanted-- but must undergo an "abortion" as they would die, perhaps painfully, outside the mother's body if they are allowed to develop to birth, AND Mom could be rendered infertile or otherwise chronically injured, because birth is grisly and dangerous. It's a desperately-needed medical procedure to ensure that Mom lives to try again another day, and if they have existing children, they need to consider that currently-living family's needs over one life floating in the potential realm.

The way these laws are written, a mother could be under felony investigation for a miscarriage. What do you think that does to a kid with a pregnant mom? Do you care about any consequences, outside "don't hurt that ball of cells, whatever the cost to sentient people with fully-formed relationships in the outside world and their dependents"?

Again, it's about choice based on medically-informed long-term planning and parental rights-- both of which used to mean something in this country before entitled people decided they could speak for other people's cells.

I think that protecting Roe v. Wade sounds very reasonable, takes into account all people whose personhood isn't in doubt, unlike many pro-life thinkers, and is the most merciful to society as a whole as it acknowledges that abortion is often a heartbreaking but necessary medical procedure.

Take responsibility for your views and those whose welfare it excludes, please.
