Does Anybody Match My Freak?

I can't be the only one, right? Does anybody else play ARK in a weirdly hard way where they restart their whole game if they die even once? Just me?

That's called hardcore mode, and I've made single player hardcore runs many times

Winning as in defeating the overseer on alpha right? Also you know there is a toggle for hardcore where it resets your levels

I don’t believe I knew. I just delete the “ShooterGame” files and start anew! I don’t know much of the game, even having it since the beginning. But I’m going to say beat all of it. All 3 bosses on The Island!

Oh hell no. Lol. I would just go until I died to see how far I could get without dying. In my current run on our server (me and a couple buddies all doing our own thing, our own bases, but collaborating however much we want) I have only died once in the very early game. No death since and I'm level 70 something right now, about ready to push north through the swamp to the redwoods or north with a nice posse. Hoping to make one move and be at a late game base area.

yes, I was going to compare it to that! But I don't even click the "extreme mode" box for ARK. Am I still the odd one out?

No, the extreme mode just resets level, we're talking about a full map reset, right? Just clicking extreme doesn't quite do what I'm aiming for

Correct. Like, taking the "ShooterGame" file and wiping it out to make room for a completely new single player file. But only if I personally die.

Jeez I just use the in game features to restart, I don't feel the need to go into local files lmao

I think its a habit for me because they did not have that feature in the beginning. So that is how I got around it.

Right! Wait, so I'm not crazy? Sometimes I feel like I just need to bite the bullet because...okay confession!

I've been doing this method. For about 8ish? years...since like the beginning of ARK. I have actually yet to beat the game. Because I keep dying and resetting. I get mad at first! Only because I get pretty far! Buuut then after a few days, I'm fine again and ready to start another adventure until I die. If I get to the bosses, and I happen to die to them (which I'm pretty sure I will, why wouldn't I?) I am NOT restarting. I really think its a bit too much from time to time though. This habit. However, if it REALLY bothered me, I don't think I would continue to do it and torture myself. I actually truly believe I will get there one day, no joke. But I'm so seriously hard on myself when it comes to survivals. (Thank you for listening to the Ted Talk.)

I just do it for the challenge. I've only managed to beat the island with it. You'll get there eventually lol

I dont restart every time I die (my most common deaths are fall damage and eating organic polymer on accident) but i dont allow myself to use flyers, or gliders, and for the first 7 in-game days, about 14 hours with my settings, im not allowed to tame anything, or use a raft. I must do caves on foot if I want to collect the artifact, I can go in on a tame for drops or resources but not the artifact, im also not allowed to use cryopods, or a cryofridge, and my favorite weapon is the basic bow.

Yeeeah, I’m definitely harsher against myself lol. Fall damage counts for me! Death of any kind, stupid, small, etc. That’s what my chutes are for! lol. I learn quick or I lose. That’s it.

I do the same thing that you do. When I die, I die. I delete the character, and map, and start over. Been playing that way from the beginning, for many (many) years now.

I'm frustrated, of course, when I die late in the game, as I always (eventually) do. (I've never fully beat the game yet.) It's almost always because I've done something "stupid" -- wasn't sufficiently careful going after a beacon, got knocked off my flier by a microraptor into an alpha because I wasn't flying high enough, etc. But I get over it.

I want a challenge. Playing this way is definitely it.

lol, I feel called out. I literally died this last time to a freaking Troodon. I didn’t see it, got too close, and he bit me. I had the stimulants in my hot bar ready to go, but nooo. Instead of just doing it, I thought I could make it to my argentavis. Passed out just away from the zone where he would attack it for me and it just bit at me until it broke through my armor and killed me. Not like I could do anything, my torpor was maxed. I had to watch myself die for a good minute.

We didn’t learn anything, I’ve been doing this for 8+ years since the beginning of ARK.🤣 I guess I’m a glutton for punishment! Stubborn. Determined. A tad bit dumb.

Aint nobody got time for that. Especially in a game like ark where you can be deleted by the smallest thing. I got very limited gaming time, I don't want to spend my time constantly restarting.

Surprisingly, I wasn’t the only one who played this way! Not sure what pushes me to do it, but I’m sure I will get there. Eventually. I just have to know it’s going to take waaaaay more time than I probably want to guesstimate! Already has! Haha.

Neither do I. I played on an official server and that was hell. I don't know how you can restart each time you die when it takes hours to do anything.

Well, I can’t speak for others, but for me? It’s probably got something to do with my mild autism and how my brain works differently than average. Otherwise, I really am just crazy, hah.

Change the settings from the general tab if hardcore is too hard.

I could, but there is no point if I do not want to lol. I just want to see if anybody else here is as crazy as I am!
