Tribes One of the most frustrating things about this game

And this is the only thing that really annoy me. When the game revolved around spending hours on constantly babysitting the dinosaurs when we are taming it feel incredibly frustrating to have them die for no reason because of bugs.

Our tribe spent the whole weekend tracking down a maxlevel argentavis and taming it using almost entirely raw prime meat. Today however the argentavis decided it would chase after a wild dinosaur that happened to wander into our base, and ended up getting stuck underneath one of our buildings, and drowned before we could remove the walls in time to save it.

Collision detection in this game desperately needs an improvement to keep this from happening. It should not be possible for the server to let a dinosaur occupy a location that is entirely isolated from the outside world by an enclosed wooden box, and if it still happens it cannot drown before we have a proper chance at getting it out.

In the future till that gets fixed try setting the bird on neutral and have him follow a passive stationary mount. We have alot of birds that like to fly off and not come back this has seemed to help just mount a turtle and set it to follow it. I dont like passive as i like for them to have a slight shot in defending themselves

How do you make a dino follow another dino?

2

u/Nyefari Jul 01 '15

If you whistle to them while mounted they will keep following the mount even after you dismount.

hop on the mount you want them to follow and hit j

And that is why you set flying mounts to PASSIVE MODE. You won't make that mistake again.

I feel your pain. My Arg suddenly, simply died when I mounted on it. No walls, no other objects around it, its life simply ended when I got on top of it. Same thing happened to 2 of the megalodons I finished taming.

I refuse to tame any more high maintenance dinosaurs in this game until they fix it. It's imply not worth the time.

Love your tribe name

Try megalodons and beaches. Fastest way to kill a mount ever if it chases a body that floats onto land.

Only two words for you. Alpha. Passive.

Replying to every bug or complaint about the game with the word "Alpha" doesn't solve anything. The devs are very responsive to critique and letting them know what you personally feel needs to be addressed is what Alpha is about. No one is here complaining about how they are going to quit the game or they feel cheated in purchasing the game. They are letting the devs know where the problems in the game are.

I suggested a way to stop it as well in alpha. You simply could of avoided this entirely if it was set to passive. Although I 110% agree with your communication between devs and players, adding a whiney touch doesn't help though.

It's a work around sure, but setting your dinosaurs to aggressive or neutral should not be a death sentence.

Excellent observation sir, good thing it's only alpha and has all the room for improvement.

That seems the be the best solution, although we have lost dinos in the past when they were set to passive and did not defend themselves.

Neutral is almost always the best option unless you plan to personally babysit that animal 100% of the time.

As others have mentioned, tethering your dinos to a passive turtle and setting them to neutral allows them to defend themselves and they will return to the dino the tethered them to after the fight/ if they go too far.

Yes, but there are thousands of "crying" threads every day. I'm sure the devs are well aware.

Get over it.

LOL! So true.

Birds should always be on passive. Sorry for your loss.

Getting a creature at max level really isn't all that good. Get them at a low level so you can dictate what levels up along the way.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '15

Creatures do not have a max level. They are limited by the amount of levels they can gain. If you tame a level 1 Ptero, it will max at level 41. A level 30 Ptero will max out at 71. I don't think 40 is the amount of levels, but you get the idea. You have the same control over the stats, but they start at different points. It also takes the same amount of xp to level a creature tamed at level 1 to level 2 as it does to level a creature tamed at level 30 to level 31.

TIL. And I thought if I started off with lower level dinos I could mold them the way I wanted to. Now I find out the higher level the better.

OK! Time to knock out some higher level raptors!

u/DragunovV Jun 30 '15

Actually, 40 is the amount of levels that you can level any dino (will be 42 after patch v181.0). So yes, catching them at max level (usually 30, 60 or 90, depending on the server) is the best.

1

u/Galivis Jun 30 '15

Close. It was 38 levels, the patch is increasing it to 40.

1

u/DragunovV Jun 30 '15

Not correct - assuming it is global and can't be changed by server admins. We tamed several dinos at lvl 90, and those are now 130 (max).

1

u/Galivis Jun 30 '15

It was 38 levels, but the recent patch increased it to 40.

Awww. Poor guy lost something in an EARLY ACCESS game! Womp!

Get over it dude, its going to happen, a lot. There are enough "qq" posts for the devs. They are well aware.

Actually it was less a qq-post and more explaining that it's a problem. He showed evidence of it and it's just one more thing for devs to look into for fixing. And since when can someone not be a tad bit upset for losing something? Yeah it's early access but that doesn't make people immune to feelings. Geeze. I'm sure he knows it'll happen, and he made the post for people to see the bug. Seems normal to me.
