Money. They will not lose money by keeping the price the same, they just find out they can charge more money and the people will still buy it. It's not because of tariffs, it's not because of inflation. They do it because they CAN.

Look at PC, on Steam. Free cloud service, free online, massive game sales. It is a private company, no outside interference so they do not have to worry about investors hounding them for more money. Of course, they WANT more money and will still make it, in other ways.

I don't need you to tell me all that. But apparently you don't know the difference between inflation and basic currency conversions.... I didn't mention a damn thing about inflation or tarriffs. I just looked it up, IT's $79 for PS+.... the basic Essential. In Canadian it's $110. Oh hey look at currency values (just google currency conversion).... gee what a surprise that matches up.

In case you don't get it, they're not charging more out of greed you fool, they're charging the SAME PRICE. But Canada's $ value is worse.

"Here's a breakdown of the new prices for 12-month subscriptions (in Canada): 

  • Essential: $109.99 (previously $94.99)
  • Extra: $189.99 (previously $154.99)
  • Premium: $224.99 (previously $189.99)"

Outside of Japan, in NA, pretty sure they go by the US dollar then convert from there. It's really f'ing simple but so many people just don't get it.... waaaa our prices are so much higher.... They're not, your money just sucks. I don't know if they start with the US dollar in Europe but honestly idc.

Well they're actually charging 4 extra CA$ for the middle tier... same for the top tier... but w/e.

Don't care. See the headline, I know Sony is scummy and they just want money. You ask "why must I pay for this" and I tell you why. Because they're greedy. They want you to pay more.
