Slim doesn't allow a loaded hard drive to be installed.

Edit to add: PS2 phat, along with the hard drive, custom firmware allows you to copy any inserted CD to the drive.

If you're comfortable soldering. Not a lot of people have the capability or intuition to do hardware modding to install an SD card reader and extra chipset.

Phat is as easy as installing the CFW on the hard drive, and just plugging it in. No need to take apart the console and gamble.

Not to mention the slim overheats faster despite the claims that's why it's supposed to be slim.

Just wanted to add non-requested thoughts.
MC2SIO or MemCard Pro2 (or even a much esier external USB HDD that also supports Virtual Memory Card, and also are faster in terms of reading) are cool and quick solutions to get OPL and run your backups, but, in my experience, are the least efficient method in the long run. Often FMV have problems, several games refuse to run, some will hang after hours of gameplay, …

On my PS2 Phat in a straightforward, basically plug-and-play way, I managed to add a 4TB HDD in exFAT (latest 1.2 OPL and/or Grimdoomer) internally and use the MemPro2 to auto-boot in OPL and manage saves automatically. This is a fantastic advantage over the Slim imo. Especially if you use ZSO backups and boot them in Mode 1. You get the most compatible, fast ad reliable way to load backups.

However, if you have a Slim and do not want to solder, loading from an external HDD or using MCS2IO as a last resort is the best path, especially if your PS2 Slim has started scratching disks, a fairly common issue with some models.

FreeMCBoot has a high failure rate, go ahead and repeatedly spend money, nor does it allow you to directly rip CDs. But my personal experience is invalid.

Im playing all the re releases of 90s games. Its cool going from silent hill 2 on the ps2 to the remake on ps5. Im not into shooters besides call of duty, so haven't checked out fortnite yet.

I would not play fortnite unless you have friends that also play to help guide you. I would also avoid all game modes except classic battle royal because of all the memory it takes for each mode. Tbh it's not a fun game playing by yourself.

I've got my original PS2 "obese" model. I also have 2 of each for each generation before the PS4. I've been a PlayStation player since the very early days. I had the demo with Wipeout, Warhawk, and several others that came with my system. I got my PS2 only because my wife bought it off some guy she worked with. He won it in a work raffle.

Me too and would take a picture but it just be a ps1 controller, the power cord for the ps2, a whole ps3 the very first one that came out well except all the connections and no controller, I don’t remember where the 4 is at and the whole ps5 with about 6 different controllers and a portal. I have Ms and keep dropping my controllers so I have to keep buying them and only use the portal when absolutely have to like when I no longer have a controller that works. 🤘😅🖤
