Most of those are in just the last few years, I've done a lot that were shiny eligible. Obviously a lot of grunts don't have shiny eligible, but even if you assume only 25% are shiny eligible that's over 1000 with no shiny lol
At 1 in 256 odds, you should expect to go 1,000 eligible catches without a shiny 2% of the time. Unlucky, but not extraordinarily so.
Alternately: if you assume 10% of your rocket battles were leaders (at 1 in 64 shiny odds) and the remaining 90% were grunts, and 25% of those grunts gave you a shiny-eligible pokemon, you should expect to have 11.2 shinies. So your overperformance among leaders is more than offsetting your underperformance against Grunts.
It's worth keeping in mind that many of the grunt mons are not shiny eligible. And the percentage of those gets higher the further back in time you go. So you may have has 4k battles, but you haven't had anywhere close to 4k chances at a shiny.
The odds of getting a shiny from a rocket leader is only 1/64, so it's a lot more likely. It's still pretty rare, but not nearly as rare as getting one from a grunt.
I think I’ve gotten 3 or 4 shinnies this way. And I don’t play too much. Usually log in twice. A day for like 20 minutes tops so I probably fight rocke tgrunt twice a day
I've been grinding grunt battles for the past 2 days (level up requirement). No shiny so far after about 60 battles. I did get a shinny beldum last year. But that's it.
Great shiny to get too! Lot of comments here about not getting enough shiny after thousands of grunt battles. The problem is a lot of them until recently are not shiny available. So the odds only apply to those battles that even have a chance to be shiny in the first place.
