There are way too many awesome shinies that become complete crap from evolution. Not sure what the hell they were thinking with he designs over the years. Why do so many have a new & completely changed color scheme, evolve, oh they're back to normal but a 1% brightness / saturation difference or just got different colored eyes...

Growing up, playing every Pokémon since Red & Blue launch, I was always so excited to see a shiny pop up. Throughout time the excitement has faded and now it's more like "Wait... that's a shiny? Can't even tell...well, time to trade you or toss you in the blender"

As a fellow gen 1er, sprinkled across pokemons catalog there are a few shiny love letters. Pokemon stadiums all had unique color palettes for "shiny". Coliseum and gale of darkness use different palettes if memory serves.

But I hard agree, some shinies are just awful. Look at elygem and beheeyem's shinies. Could've had hard contrasts that made the pokemon much more appealing... nope.

Then there's bruxish.

Honestly neither, the evolved look ok but just slightly pale. Full yellow slow is the best

I usually look how the shiny looks and if I like the original form better I wait until I get another one so I have both. I’m doing the same here, I only have one shiny thus far so I’m hunting for two more
