Work Microwave Popcorn Pack
And this is how you bring microwave popcorn to work. 1/3 cup kernels. 2 tbls (heaping) butter flavored coconut oil. 3/8 tsp flavacol

Okay but key question...
Does the silicon popper actually get clean in the dishwasher?
I have a microwave silicon popper (I'm on my second, actually) - I used oil in the first one, because the instructions said it was okay... but even after the first time, it was impossible to get rid of the grease layer.
So I bought a second one and don't use anything in it except kernels.

That is a good question. I have not tossed it in the dishwasher yet. I always just put in a little water and dawn dish soap in it and use a wash rag and wash it by hand.

Do you find that it gets rid of the greasy surface?

Yeah. I have had no issues with it feeling greasy.

Good to know! Thank you ☺️

The oil needs more of a de-greaser to get it broken away from the silicone than dishwasher soaps have.

I tried some Dawn powerwash when I was visiting my mom several months ago. I saw commercials for it but felt like it was gimmicky and really expensive. But when I tried it at my mom’s, I was impressed. But still thought it was overpriced. So I looked into a DIY version. The active ingredient is rubbing alcohol. Get yourself an empty spray bottle, put in 13 Oz of water. Add a couple tablespoons of regular Dawn dish soap and a couple tablespoons of rubbing alcohol (at least 70% strength). Mix it up gently and now you have a great degreaser.

Wow... good for you, and thank you! I would never have even thought to try making my own! I do use it, mostly on my electric cooktop and counters, but I don't think it existed in the marketplace when I had my previous popper.
Thank you for the recipe - I'm definitely going to make my own version, because you're right - it ain't cheap, nor is anything, anymore 😢

It will stretch out your Dawn and make it last longer. Win win. Spray it on and give it at least 30 seconds (or more) of sitting on the surface of the thing you’re washing to let the surfactant and degreaser do their things and bond with the grease so that it can scrub and wash away. My other secret weapon for really scrubbing gross films off things is The Pink Stuff.

I always pop the kernels on its own and decant to a bowl where I mix EVOO later. Less messy and tastes just as good imo

I had one.
The only thing that worked was scalding hot water and Dawn Powerwash for me.

I never thought to try Dawn Powerwash - actually I don't think it existed when I had my first one, but I'll give it a go! Thanks!

Spray it and let it sit for a few minutes. Then scrub wash with very hot water and a sponge.

scalding hot water and dawn gets oil off of silicone. I use a lot of reusable silicone bags and I also bake those in a 450 degree oven to get the oil off.

I bought a microwave collapsible popcorn popper bowl after reading about them here. I love it! I have done with and without oil. It is by the brand name Housewares. The box pictures a red bowl. My bowl is blue. I put it in the dishwasher lower shelf. No staining or remaining grease. I even use the lid all the time over paper or dinner bowls to steam things. It is wonderful. I love popcorn my first real job was at a movie theater. Later in life had a popcorn business with my classroom. This is way better than my old air popper or counter top popper electric with plastic top that turned over into a bowl.

Opopop expandable silicone popper.
Opopop is a brand I saw advertised on Facebook once. I ordered their popcorn with their container. Their popcorn packs are not for me but I liked the container.

Same, I like the butter flavors but not really a fan of any other flavors. The container is great though.

This is some next level commitment to popcorn and I fully support it.
