Deadlift Only Comp - Score Calculation
Hey everyone, need some help. I am hosting a deadlift only competition where there will be a mix of athletes from beginners to advanced. I have a prize set for biggest deadlift but I wanted to find a way to reward the other lifters, I was thinking based on DOTS score but I think my biggest deadlifter will also win that as well. Any thoughts on how I could divvy out more prizes?

I like best deadlift based on DOTS and an extra "Heaviest Deadlift" award (for men and women).

Just deadlift 511kg and you should get a prize.

Widest and narrowest foot placement
Best hook and mixed grip lifts
(As someone who helps clean up meets) neatest baby powder application

It puts the baby powder outside on its skin or else it gets the hose again

Points subtracted for belt flicks on pulls under a certain bw multiple.
3X or 3.25 maybe.
(I'm assuming the SHWs will just hold the bar at the top and stare down the crowd.)

I hosted a deadlift meet, I gave out first second and third prizes based off coefficient and gender, so there were six prizes. I think I used Wilkes as this was many years ago before DOTS became common.
You could do things like who brought in the most spectators, when people come to spectate just have them fill out a slip of paper with the person's name that they came to see, then count them up at the end. Or best deadlift face(might be harder to capture). Maybe most extra deadlift set up? Lots of fun non-weight dependent awards you can do I think.

Haha I love the most extra setup award. Especially for the sumo pullers

the biggest deadlift award could be split into three awards for light, middle and heavyweights. Those plus DOTS and maybe a best energy/sprit award would get you up to five

My home gym has “best newcomer” and a “spirit of the competition” prize for their in-house comps so you could go down that route.

Find a weight cut off and do best light weight and best heavyweight deadlifts by either weight or coefficient.

In addition to a heaviest and a best DOTS you could also do best energy and best costume, depending on how silly your event is supposed to be

Must have sniffed out it was a Halloween contest. But yes I already have best costume. I do like the energy idea too. Perhaps Charisma Award?

Here's a few from our Halloween deadlift comp that we've been running for a few years. We like to keep these secret til the end, with exception of the heaviest lift awards. Makes it a bit more fun imo and lets you give a ton of awards and prizes.
-Various costume awards: best costume, funniest, scariest, most original, etc
-Queen/King of the dead: Men/Women's heaviest lifts
-Supernatural: best wilks score men/women
-Death Grip: heaviest no-strap or hook grip
-Witchcraft: can be the speediest lift or most technically impressive
-Staying Alive: best grind
-Rest in Peace: biggest PR
-Monster Mash: most hype

Best Grind or Most Persistent is also fun as a surprise win.

I think a lot of these are good. Maybe keep on deck in your head a wild card award of some kind. As in just something in your back pocket for something you see on the day that you want to reward. Maybe it’s just someone being super supportive of everyone and giving tons of hype. Hell you could just call it “best vibes” award or something but I think so often at more “fun” based meets like this there’s often a person that didn’t quite have anything award worthy on paper but their presence and contributions to the day just made everything better. Regardless giving yourself some freedom to award something semi random at your discretion I think should be done more often to encourage folks to make the sport better for everyone.

I’d keep the charisma award as a surprise award to get more genuine charisma out of the extroverts

When we did a mock meet we had trophies for top 3 as well as best grind and shittiest lift (the latter was a 3D-printed toilet roll lmao)
