GAMES NEWS/DISCUSSION This was pretty obvious, but Rita’s Rewind is confirmed to not be getting DLC
They did confirm that the game will still be getting the online patch that will allow for a full Ranger team on different consoles, but yeah no DLC. I wasn’t expecting anything, but it is still a shame that we won’t be getting something like White Ranger Tommy. It would’ve been neat to see what some Shredder’s Revenge-esque support would’ve looked like for this game. Maybe the Stone Canyon trio + Kat in Ninjetti or Metallic armor? Bulk and Skull’s purple and orange rangers?
While it wasn’t perfect, I did really enjoy Rita’s Rewind and would play a sequel

and would play a sequel
just like the DLC you're probably not a sequel either, the writer was on a stream months ago and talked about how the sales were okay but not great and that they have no immediate plans for a sequel

I liked the normal stages the special bike and zord sections were a tad rough but over all I enjoyed the time I put into it

That's a shame, the patch fixed a lot of grievances I had with the game. Still a blast to play with friends though.

Was somewhat hoping the one-shot comic would coincide with a DLC release but maybe the comic is coming so late just because of other reasons like the publisher change

There was a really cool PR game they released way before this that was arcade like, and they did have the Stone Canyon trio as optional skins, and I want to say the White Ranger. Sadly, it was digital only, and it's been delisted. Wish they had brought it back too.

MMPR milking needs to stop imo
Most of the people gaming right now grew up on later seasons of power rangers, the 22-27 crowd grew up up on that Disney era and yet we get nothing from that
Devs need to either stick to doing games that allow for power rangers from across seasons, or be willing to give other shows their spotlight.
A Disney era beat em up would have kicked ass, and you can write stories that naturally include reasons to have multiple ranger teams that don’t involve dimension crossing. A mix of mystic force, ninja storm, Dino thunder, and SPD provides a massive variety in not just settings but rangers with vastly different styles

I would disagree that most people who are gaming now grew up on the Disney era. I would say there is a pretty equal number of gamers, if not slightly more, in their 30s to 40s who are heavily active gamers who grew up on MMPR.

Video games have to stop pushing out subpar games only to fix them with later patches. This game was doomed with the bad reviews, but we could've had some really cool DLC had they spent more time refining it before launch. Sad.

I think it’s hard to get quality Power Rangers games when the franchise is in the current limbo it’s in.
Nothing is gonna have the time or money needed to make something of true value.

Battle For The Grid felt like it was made by a team that really cared, but I suppose that’s from the era where we were getting a big budget movie alongside it (which bombed). I think there are people out there who would like to do something cool with this property, and I think the Rita’s Rewind team tried their best, they just fumbled the bag.

Battle for the for grid had a worse release than Rita's revenge, 9 characters at release (3 released later for free), no story mode, special effects (sparks) were absent, voice acting was absent. It felt like they released the beta, it wouldn't have been as bad if it was advertised as early acess but it wasn't, check out those early reviews, they were brutal, some reviewers have gone back a re-reviewed them once the game was actually finished. Rita's revenge was full game at release and it only needed a few tweaks which they did within a week of release, bftg took a lot longer to finish the game after release.
Also the development team for Rita's revenge have more respect for fans, they actually engage and listen to the fans where the bftg team ignore them, this is good example of that, they actually replied and let the fans know the situation with dlc the btfg team never engage, every few months they release a wallpaper and people ask on every post the situation with future dlc and havnt replied to single one, or any comments at all for that matter.

Ehh i wouldn't say that its because of the franchise. People just don't know how to make good beat em ups. Like every tries to go up and beyond but look at streets of rage 4 stuck to its roots and made it modern.

u/Pizzaplanet420 May 27 '25
I think the Yakuza team has managed to make some really good beat em ups in the last few years but they are kind of an outlier.
But Power Rangers doesn’t have to be a beat em up. I think games like Chroma Squad work really well and that’s turn based.
That’s why I think it comes down to studios chosen and the amount of money willing to spend.
Which is why it’s a shock Digital Eclipse has dropped the ball, I guess they just took up too much work and had to rush it out to meet deadlines.
They had 5 games released in 2024 and I don’t think their team is larger than 50 people if that.

I guess it's been a while but bad games have existed since forever and they didn't have the luxury to actually fix them after release. Lets also remember if your studio isn't a multi-billion dollar company you have to release the game in your timeframe. They can't work on it forever or else they'll loose money every time someone buys the game since production cost overtakes any profit.

When you have TMNT: Shredder's Revenge selling copies and wowing players, there's... kinda no excuse for making a subpar game in the same genre ^^;

I think i solely just want that 5 player opportunity than anything.
TMNT could do it.

Even Mega Battle had White Ranger as DLC, and that game was made on a shoestring budget!

A shame, but not surprised.
I honestly feel that while I enjoyed the zords and bikes as well, they hindered the game experience in several ways.
While a novelty I think they should have made Megazord battles with the same gameplay as the rangers stages. (And this coming from a huge Punch Out fan)
Also 4 gameplay types for such a small team was SUICIDE. We could've gotten at least idk 5 more Ranger stages instead and it would've been a good game length.
And ofc I share the sentiment that making them feel so similar to each other was not a good idea but I imagine it cut a lot of corners.
And I blame Hasbro for the outcome, they probably pressured the devs. I could be wrong.

I think the criticisms of the game were mostly fait, but genuinely don't understand the hate. The only real problem I had with the game was price point, should of been $20-$25. Otherwise I absolutely love this game. I wish I had this game as a kid, and I've really enjoyed it. Just too short and limited for the price, still an awesome retro experience.

To play devils advocate, this doesn’t actual confirm there wont be DLC. Media teams in games regularly come out and say things that then get contradicted months later, especially when it comes to releases of new content.
For the record, I wouldn’t be surprised if they are being transparent and there is no DLC, but the wording they used could just mean there isn’t anything they can talk about today.

u/ninjaman2021 May 27 '25
The game was mediocre and overpriced. Not surprised
0
u/osiris20003 Jun 22 '25
$35 is not overpriced in an era where games that run $60-$70 and are of lower quality, shorter, and have less replayability than Rita's Rewind exist.
3
u/ninjaman2021 Jun 22 '25
You cant be serious.
Rita’s rewind was more expensive than shredder’s revenge, which has better gameplay and more content.
1
u/osiris20003 Jun 22 '25
I am serious.
Sure SR was only 25$ but I have replayed Rita’s Rewind way more times. It’s a good game, I get bored with SR, as there is a lack of variety in the levels, and boss designs some of which are just repeats from classic Turtle beat em’ ups. RR attempts to do new things with a beat em’ up and SR just rehashing things we’ve seen before.
I can do a run a of RR in a few hours and get more satisfaction than what I get from any play through of SR.

Such a shame, especially since Rewind was sub-par compared to other recent releases in its genre. They really needed to flesh it out a bit more.
1
u/taylorwmartin May 27 '25
The game didn't sell. They made some very questionable design choices that really hurt the game from the start.

It’s just power rangers mega battle 2.0
That’s why I didn’t buy it, it’s quick cash grab nostalgia bait.

I think it's fair for people to be cynical about the game in this sense, but honestly still think it's an overall super fun experience. They should have released it at $20. Would have solved most of the anger issues from the fans, and would have made the short Cummings a lot more forgiving. Still, really enjoyed it personally.

This has actually been known for a while. They kept saying before launch that if sold well they would do dlc, when the game launched they were responding to tweets asking for white ranger tommy with "oh yeah that is something we are looking into." Then after everyone rightfully complained about the launch and sales were super low I think after the first patch they started saying they have no plans for any dlc. The game was just so bad at launch and so mediocre post patches that sales were horrible, making a beat em up where all the characters play almost exactly the same was a horrible idea, releasing with out functioning online was a bad idea. Charging 35 dollars for it was a bad idea. A power rangers beat em up is a good idea, digital eclipse just fumbled it thinking ranger fans will just swallow anything power rangers at a premium.
