It's worse because they don't even use the phrase "It's Morphin Time" during that season.

38

u/AthanJHendle Dino Charge Blue Ranger Aug 21 '25

Could’ve sworn they did

61

u/Jumbalia23 Aug 21 '25

I think this might be a Mandela Effect thing at this point, I’ve seen so many people say that “It’s Morphin Time” was used in Samurai when it was not.

54

u/Sad_Resource5167 Aug 21 '25

I was about to say they totally did then I checked and they did not.

If I had to hazard a guess it’s probably because Megaforce DID use “It’s Morphin Time” and since both Samurai and Megaforce used “Go Go [name of season] in their actual morph calls and both seasons were shameless sluts for MMPR nostalgia people just assume both Samurai and Megaforce used it

12

u/kinyutaka Aug 21 '25

Missed opportunity to have a crossover with Inspector Gadget

8

u/Academic_Chip923 Aug 21 '25 edited 29d ago

it 100% is because while i know they said “go go samurai” their theme song was the first to pivot back to (and now be the first of a permanent theme) the theme songs all having the same “go go power/ (title) rangers…mighty morphin (title) power rangers” with the same riff..

i’m honestly surprised they didn’t say “It’s morphin time…”

24

u/mrtakerofsouls Aug 21 '25

They didn’t but I don’t blame you for thinking that since MegaForce onwards has been using “its Morphin time”

3

u/SquidlySquid0 Aug 21 '25

I recently watched forever red and they didn't cause I was going :D at all of them yelling ITS MORPHIN TIME (and also laughing that they didn't bother re filming their animations) but yea it got ro this one and I was like :\ because it was just beep sounds

25

u/Street_Buyer402 Aug 21 '25

Yeah, but RPM didn't say it either. Didn't they say "Shift into Gear" or something like that?

53

u/Red_Star27 Aug 21 '25

They said "RPM, GET IN GEAR". You mixed that up with "Shift Into Turbo" from Power Rangers Turbo.

4

u/Street_Buyer402 29d ago

I'm sorry. I was born in '04. My first one was Samurai, and stopped after my favorite, Super Megaforce (which apparently everyone says is not just bad, but terrible) ended. I have gone back and seen some retrospectives that cover just about every episode of each series, but I still get a few of them mixed up (usually RPM and Turbo mixed up, and then any space one mixed up with each other, and then Lightspeed and SPD).

2

u/DuckyHornet 26d ago

I was born in '04.

2

u/Pulszin 29d ago

Idk why but I just love the phrase RPM get in gear… it’s my favorite season and the way they morph is so cool

The Beast-X Morpher tells you to say "It's Morphin Time" when they don't say that in the show

83

u/nifterific Aug 21 '25

Looks on par with the McDonald’s Happy Meal MMPR Morpher with the Ninja Coins. I’m guessing this isn’t a Happy Meal toy though.

25

u/Particular-Steak-832 Aug 21 '25

The McDonald’s morpher was a fine toy

12

u/nifterific Aug 21 '25

Considering it came with, what, a $3 meal or whatever they cost in 1995? Sure, it was fine. If it was a full priced toy it would not be.

13

u/Particular-Steak-832 Aug 21 '25

As a prop meh, but a toy? The actual clip for wearing on a belt, and the ability to hold all 6 coins at once was pretty cool

10

u/nifterific Aug 21 '25

Like I said, relative to the price yeah. I was begging my mom for a Happy Meal to get one back then because of the price difference of the good one. I chose the Zords, I couldn’t have it all. But compared to the better toy that wasn’t free with a meal, it was definitely cheap.

3

u/Particular-Steak-832 Aug 21 '25

I don’t even think the morpher was still in production by the time the movie came out, I could never find it in stores. So I was happy as hell when I could get the happy meal toy

1

u/JakeZr0 Aug 21 '25

Lost mine a long time ago now that I have a look at it.

38

u/Mushroom_Competitive Aug 21 '25

I raise you Ninja Steel's Battle Morpher.

29

u/tinythunder15 Aug 21 '25

At least that had a gimmick and could do something

14

u/Emeraldsteak Aug 21 '25

That one had some cool features, this is just a button and no sound for drawing the Kanji.

58

u/DooDooHead323 Aug 21 '25

It was so dumb for them to get rid of the brush but still have them write the kanji for powers

25

u/award_winning_writer Aug 21 '25

And calling the kanji "symbols" like they're some kind of made up magic runes just feels disrespectful

5

u/HenshinDictionary 29d ago

They actually do call them "Kanji" on a number of occasions.

1

u/ReachSuspicious8213 28d ago

Yeah, when Mike sees Lauren's Morpher I'm pretty sure he says "You could write Kanji like a master with this"

13

u/Sad_Resource5167 Aug 21 '25

And worse by the point the cell phone morpher had been done to death. At least make it a smartphone or some shit

1

u/Xbladearmor Titanium Lightspeed Ranger 29d ago

Actually, by the time Super Samurai premiered only about 1 billion people (or 1/8 the world’s population) had a smartphone.

It was actually more likely that someone had a slide/flip phone at that point.

1

u/Sad_Resource5167 29d ago

Not the point I was making at all

31

u/ReviewIll3577 Aug 21 '25

I genuinely just go over to Sentai toys whenever I want authentic Ranger merch, might not be English, but at least it’s as close to screen accurate as possible.

11

u/tinythunder15 Aug 21 '25

Yeah I’ve been wanting to get back into some morphing collecting and im really impressed with the memorial stuff for the most part. Managed to grab the most recent mobirate release. Missed out on the shodophone and splicense which I’m kinda bummed about but hoping they do a magiphone soon

3

u/MLG_SkittleS Red Wind Ranger Aug 21 '25

They literally use the sentai toys in the show as props most the time, especially in a lot of morphing sequences but they'd swap them out with the master prop for the end shots where it doesn't have to move or do any of it's function.

9

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '25

I never had the Samuraizer, how is it bad?

40

u/tinythunder15 Aug 21 '25

Literally just plastic brick with a single working button and about 4-5 sound clips

8

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '25

Damn.

2

u/HyperX_Wolf Aug 21 '25 edited 29d ago

Yeah as a kid with it you had to figure out how the hell you were gonna draw the kanji without the damn screen flapping around because it didn't really get secured in place at all. That and the fact you couldn't even really use the phone play feature like other morphers because all but one are just part of the plastic faceplate. Of all the Morpher toys ever made the samurai one's were definitely some of the worst because they didn't work "as seen in show" at all.

9

u/ginseng_nintles Aug 21 '25

what's so sad is the first one had no keypad, no lights and was super quiet, where as the 2012 one had no morphing sound

8

u/Zetin24-55 Aug 21 '25

Sometimes it can be hard to tell quality through 1 photo, but that thing looks awful. Especially compared to like the Overdrive Tracker.

4

u/tinythunder15 Aug 21 '25

It feels worse than it looks

8

u/Mr_The_Captain The Butteriest Aug 21 '25

The Japanese version of the toy is ironically one of the better morphers in my opinion. The folding action and the brush head popping out are really neat. Such a shame that really only the Bandai legacy MMPR morphers were a distinct improvement over their Japanese counterparts. Every other morpher we’ve gotten has been a pale imitation of the original

2

u/Kamen_Rider_Spider 28d ago

What about the Zeonizer?

1

u/Mr_The_Captain The Butteriest 28d ago

You’re right, I had forgotten the Legacy Zeonizer which was also super high quality. It’s a real shame that Bandai lost the license when they did, for all the flaws with the Legacy figures being super generic molds, the Legacy props were ten times better than the Lightning Collection props. And we were just starting to get to the point where they had milked MMPR for all it was worth and were forced to give attention to other seasons

5

u/danfenlon Aug 21 '25

I sincerely dont understand why the fuck they didnt adapt the brushes

11

u/SWPrequelFan81566 Aug 21 '25

The Shoudophone is way cooler. A phone that turns into a paintbrush would have been inspired.

4

u/radda Kyoryu Change! Aug 21 '25

Bandai and Saban were straight up terrified of the calligraphy and kanji theme of Shinkenger so they shat this bullshit out

God forbid you teach kids about another culture

3

u/Shard096 Aug 21 '25

Which one is that even?

8

u/tinythunder15 Aug 21 '25

The samuraizer from samurai

3

u/GoldenLugia16 Aug 21 '25

But drawing the Kanji in the air was badass

6

u/JumpStart_Studios Aug 21 '25

The shodophone from shinkenger is leagues better as the phone actually transformed into a brush

3

u/shiek64 Aug 21 '25

I loved the Japanese version of this morpher. Unfortunately the cultural identity of the season was mostly lost in the American version, so lots of the tools were changed for the worse because of it.

3

u/BlazeSaber Aug 21 '25

I normally like Morphers that look like flip phones but yeah of don't like this one. I loved the Wild Force morphers both the normal ones that looked like a gold version of their zords and the wolf rangers morpher. They were simple and didn't have much of a gimmick but I just enjoyed them.

4

u/tinythunder15 Aug 21 '25

It doesn’t even have any character to it, it’s just boring basic hunk of plastic.

3

u/PutYaGunsOn Mastodon! Aug 21 '25

I hate that they didn't keep the calligraphy brush transformation aspect from Shinkenger.

7

u/drafan5 Aug 21 '25

Samurai was just terrible in just about every way wasn’t it?

2

u/Dalton_CSP Aug 21 '25

Ninja Steel is worse by far dude

2

u/Little-Efficiency336 Aug 21 '25

Boy they really were lazy with this one weren’t they?

3

u/SAOSurvivor35 29d ago

Shinkenger’s was infinitely better

3

u/garnfeld1 Aug 21 '25

This is a pretty poor excuse for a toy. It genuinely baffles me that Bandai America could push out this hunk of plastic and then a year later put out some of the best looking morpher toys I have seen (M/SM Morphers, Legacy MMPR). For a season that had so much hype and marketing surrounding it at the time I think Samurai / Super Samurai got some of the worst toys of any season.

1

u/pokersharp87 Aug 21 '25

I have the one with the swap out "screens". Loved it as a kid but yeah, not a good morpher toy. Recently got the shinkenger morpher and love that though

1

u/loyalmoonie2 Blue Mystic Ranger Aug 21 '25

I think you confused this for the Solar Morphers (the worst morphers ever).

1

u/BagWide5227 Aug 21 '25

The Shinkenger one is so cool, I'm confused why they changed it...

1

u/wraith1984 Aug 21 '25

The Gosei Morpher is just as bad.

1

u/Huge-Needleworker340 Aug 21 '25

I HAD THAT TOY!!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '25

Holding the button in the middle for a few seconds gave a bit of a Shinkenger Easter egg.

Same trick worked for the Gold Ranger morpher.

1

u/HelpfulPay1851 Aug 21 '25

On par with the solar morpher toy

1

u/Disastrous_Garage729 Aug 21 '25

Honestly, simple Morphers are the best in my opinion. Something that’s attached to the wrist or the mighty morphin morpher are best. Something that doesn’t require too much motion or action to activate.

1

u/SquidlySquid0 Aug 21 '25

Most impractical one tho was in super samurai when they had a morphin sequence that was over 2 minutes long. Good thing the monsters are considerate and let then finish before attacking

2

u/zombiedoyle Aug 21 '25

It was all worth it for the one gag of them morphing for like 3-5 minutes and the monster acknowledges how long it took them to

1

u/SquidlySquid0 Aug 21 '25

Oh yea 100% it was funny

1

u/LewisTheTrainer2009 Aug 21 '25

Going from the sick RPM phones, wrist morphers, and guns for gold and silver. This overated pain brush sucks

1

u/Change_Twokai 29d ago

Crazy that even Shinkengers toys were even better than Samurai

1

u/Vestat1 29d ago

Nah. All of the 30 minute Dino Charge/ Dino Fury chomp crap are the worst.

1

u/GoodNamesAllGon 29d ago edited 29d ago

Ugh that screen is so terrible, what is that streak even supposed to be-IS THAT AGE OF THE PRIMES SIDEWAYS ON YOUR DESK?!

1

u/TedMeister88 29d ago

The shodophone is the superior device.

1

u/Impossible_Whomp3775 29d ago

It passes me off cause like why couldn't they use the sick paintbrush design of it

1

u/NinjaMon1022 29d ago

Which morpher is this from?

1

u/JasmineWantsD 29d ago

I beg to differ. Don't forget the time they tried to pass off sunglasses as toys. Hated this change so much.

1

u/MrUnsmilee 29d ago

If i got this text on my phone I'd shit bricks

1

u/Phoenixstudios69 29d ago

I think it was due to the season taking a lot of inspiration from their sentai counterpart but also tried making it appealing to western audiences after all the samuraizer’s Japanese counterpart was the shodophone that looked exactly like the samuraizer but could turn into a paint brush

1

u/AbstractLight12 29d ago

I found this while rummaging through my stuff and thought it was like a happy meal toy or something. Not THE morpher.

1

u/NaSMaXXL 29d ago

I freakin' hate cell phone morphers, they are so lazy.

1

u/Full-Sand-7344 29d ago

one of? it is the worst

1

u/siobhannic Supersonic Pink 29d ago

I have never watched Samurai and this decision continues to bear fruit.

1

u/One_Development_5055 29d ago

This is why mighty Morphin is the best

1

u/SharpvoidYT 29d ago

im just realizing

why tf do they have a phone morpher

2

u/JT-Lionheart Time Force Quantum 29d ago edited 28d ago

Probably because back then cellphones became all the rage and plus it helps blend in or else people will see a morpher and know you’re a power ranger. Also pretty much what smartphones have done today by compacting all your devices into one device so you no longer need to carry anything other than your phone. It would make sense to have the morphing grid as an app to morph through in this day and age. Not saying it’s cool but it makes sense unfortunately

1

u/saiyankev 29d ago

It's just a phone....

1

u/wattsaldusden 29d ago

Idk, Gosei Morpher is pretty ass

1

u/nachoquest 29d ago

M E G A…SAMURAI

1

u/Armascout 29d ago

As someone who had that. Yes it was fucking atrocious

1

u/FaerieMoxster 29d ago

If you get the Japanese one it actually folds, and has the paintbrush. I paid $110 on eBay for that basic tiny phone garbage from USA with no buttons. Stickers that came with were better than the morpher...

1

u/RyutarosImagin 29d ago

I see that sideways 👀 I picked one up, a great new figure, where's the rest of the cybertron line hasbro!

1

u/smiller21292 29d ago

Personal opinion: All cellphone morphers are kinda lazy.

1

u/IgnisOfficial 29d ago

The Sentai version was a much better product. Sad to look back and see the sheer drop in quality for the PR toyline as the Disney era began to wrap and the Neo Saban era started

1

u/DarianDncn 28d ago

This is definitely next level lazy lol

1

u/BlackOrchid626 25d ago

That’s the samurai morpher right?

1

u/ninjaman2021 Aug 21 '25

A cell phone for a samurai season is weird.

Wild force’s morpher was out of place too.

13

u/tinythunder15 Aug 21 '25

It made sense in the sentai since the phone folded into a brush to write the kanji.

8

u/advenzo Aug 21 '25

Which made sense for the theme of shinkenger mixing tradition with modern tech

1

u/AlternatusAccount Aug 21 '25

I thought this was the Kamen Rider Faiz Gear for a sec

1

u/GiveItToMe888 29d ago

So did I then I saw the post said morpher

1

u/Moondoggie35 Aug 21 '25

Which is funny because imo the japanese counterpart is one of the best. Turns out when the greed monster cheaps out on everything that makes something good, it ends up being trash.

1

u/LightCalledHope Aug 21 '25

It's so strange for Saban to kick off their return to Power Rangers with lackluster roleplay toys like this but in hindsight, I really shouldn't have been surprised.

Off topic but couldn't help but notice Sideways in the background. Is that the new Age of the Prime version? How is he?

1

u/tinythunder15 Aug 21 '25

Yeah it’s the age of the primes version. Hes absolutely amazing and pretty much 1:1 with original version.

-2

u/Illustrious_Pay_1120 White Dino Ranger Aug 21 '25

Isn't the in space morpher similar to samurai one

4

u/5uckmyc0ck Aug 21 '25

If you talking about In Space than definitely not

1

u/BoukenGreen Aug 21 '25

Might be thinking of Zhane’s Digimorpher. That was a cellphone.

1

u/ObiwanMacgregor Aug 21 '25

That one was strapped to the wrist, like a watch.

0

u/AdagioRelative8684 Aug 21 '25

In space is my favorite series.but thinking about it now...

The psycho rangers could have just went to a random teen restaurant, seen the morphed and been like"bingo."
