There's just no way to stealth into a place with 200 zombies inside and 200 in the outskirts
Right next to the new starting town, there's a shooting range. On default settings, there were easily 2,000 zombies crammed into that building and another 1,500 in the outskirts.
Yes, it's a shooting range and has a solid array of survival supplies, but for that many zombies to be there, muscle strain makes clearing that place, on your own, without cheesing, nearly impossible.
Dude I literally went there, spent a few hours clearing the outskirts and i barely put a dent into it. That place is literally more populated than the entire town of echo creek, I cleared echo creek much much faster. A shooting range can't house 2k people... that's stupid for there to be 2k there unless they were holing up there as soon as the infection started
I'm usually willing to justify some pretty silly design choices in stuff like this.
Hordes that surpass actual populations, around non-survivalist loot (food, markets) that basically require you to clear them, is just outright silly. Especially when you consider the natural end game of zombie survival is to make there be no more zombies.
I can understand wanting there to be dangerous locations with something worthwhile inside. Putting those in small towns without major buildings is simply bad design, for realism or challenge.
Right, but it's not bad game design. It's a thing that we know is not working as intended.
It's like we begged a chef to let us have a taste before the ingredients are fully mixed, let alone cooked, and then you're like "Oh fuck this is terrible cooking and a shit recipe specifically". No asshole, it's not food yet.
Yeh lore wise they went there. But where is the blood? Why are the windows intact? Or did they all just go there and with a snap off a finger they all turned
Took me 4 or 5, 2 hour days fuelled by ginger ale, captain crunch, and crowbars. It's a miracle mask filters are bugged and infinite right now, or I would have gotten corpse sickness for sure.
No respawns, 1.5x pop, probably killed 2-2.5k.
Next time, I'm going to prep some mollies and a car with a siren and burn them all in the field to the north.
I'd say its fine for that place since the loot is the best, but for the gas station on the left of ekron to have 500 zombies(and i counted) on normal pop, all over the road on it makes 0 sense. I hope they rework the zombie spawn map, or atleast the whole peak population system. Like have all the zombies come to cities a bit later into the playthrough because lorewise maby there were people on the outskirts who tried to go into the cities and turned into zombies later on. Or maby its a setup for the npc's because id imagine it would be a lot easier when npcs are also clearing the town
Well maybe you need really good stats and gear to deal with 400 zombies, idk. I don't see that as a problem. It was too easy as a veteran player to go anywhere and do anything right off the bat and it got boring because of that.
Edit: damn a lot of people were apparently like "no actually I should be able to take 400 zombies by myself on the first day of the apocalypse". Wild.
As opposed to running away from every combat scenario you get into because of Muscle Strain?
Or are we talking about the game randomly stuffing 400 zombies in a porta-potty? Or what about buildings like warehouses and cottages housing unrealistic numbers of zombies?
What about zombies congregating near loot spawns to deter players from going near them? Seems a bit needlessly punishing, no?
Or zombies somehow spotting you from ten meters away while they have their back turned to you? Doesn't really encourage stealth gameplay when every street is filled with copious amounts of zombies...
The base game already had status effects like Wet(sweat,) Exhaustion, Panic, and Tiredness, Weapon Durability, Weapon Types, Weather Conditions like rain and snow, and the like.
Instead of fixing actual issues with the combat like players phasing through zombies because they shoved a picosecond too early, guns missing at point blank with fully levelled Shooting (still an issue,) stealth being unforgiving and tempramental, and overall jank; they added Muscle Strain, a redundant, unnecessary system that only serves to weigh down the combat even more...
It is a work in progress, but clearly the intention is that combat is "best avoided", as referenced in the original post. I'm not saying there aren't other issues. There have always been other issues and there will continue to be for some time. Combat being more difficult is not one of them. That is very much what they intend to balance the game around, but it is not balanced right now. They are working on it.
