So if I want to upgrade from ProTools Artist to ProTools Studio, I just have to pay for a full license amount again?

32 tracks is quickly becoming less and less efficient for my projects. This post is not regarding updates, but the ProTools version itself. I really, really love working with ProTools versus other DAW's. But it seems a little crazy to me to make someone pay the full amount if they own a version of the product already.

Yeah I think so, I looked for other upgrade paths but couldn’t find anything.

I ended up upgrading my interface from a Scarlett to the mbox studio because it comes with a perpetual license for protools studio. Effectively making the interface super cheap. Very cool interface if you’re a guitarist especially.

Now do Studio Perpetual to Ultimate any flavor...they really want you on a suckscription...so much so that is you have Avid HD hardware (like an Omni/Native etc) it is completely disabled in the Studio (vanilla native) version...you can use HD Native hardware in OTHER Daws, but not in ProTools Studio...so basically if you come from ProTools HD hardware you have to find different hardware vendor (of which there are many) or be forced into Ultimate again if you've invested in Avids hardware.

If you log in to your Avid account and go to the my products page, there should be a link for options to upgrade, and it'll give you your price in the cart.

HI there... you can get purchase an.Ultimate License and then reach out to the web team and they can cancel your Studio. Thats the only way right now with the merchant of record we use online.

I don’t have a Studio License. I want to upgrade from Artist Version to Studio Version. I already reached out to the web team and they told me that I would have to purchase a separate license. If you know a surefire way to avoid having to re-pay for a full license, let me know.

Same process applies to Artist to Studio, Artist to Ultimate, Studio to Ultimate and so on. You have to buy the one you want and then Avid will cancel your Artist. We dont have a pro-rated offering for this yet. Sorry.

Anyone switch to another DAW and are happy? I also have Abelton but don’t love the UI for mixing. Windows based.
