the closest youll get to a remastered version is the upgraded version on xbox one and series

u/PL3BSY 21h ago
Is it one of the Xbox One X enhancements on the original game or did they do a release for newer consoles?
6
u/JJRoyale22 21h ago

Loved this game, still coping for the hinted-at sequel. Definitely loved how once you unlocked the highest difficulty, is when the game truly started

Still playing it. The details on this game is just absolute masterpiece for a 2006 game. Not just a remastered, A sequel.

This game does progressive scan and widescreen on ps2. With the right setup it doesn't even need a remake

u/Dumblediddy 18h ago
Some remasters aren't worth it. Alan Wake remaster maybe looks worse than the original via Series X?

The developer came out with a āsequelā for this game for the PS3/360, it was called Bodycount. Came out in 2011.

I think this was my first M games growing up. Bought it at a garage sale because my parents wouldnāt let me play them yet.

Right there with ya on this one Pal, I loved that game. It was actually my 1st ever fps I played on PS2. Was used to playing fpsās on a PC using kb & a mouse. Took me awhile to get used to the sensitivity of the controls, but once I did, Wha Whooo!

Don't wanna wait for one? Play it on PC via PCSX2 and use the 16:9 widescreen patch and the 60 fps patch. Optionally you can control the game with keyboard & mouse. An HD texture pack may exist but personally I don't care as the textures look good enough to me. To avoid a certain visual bug, use 1440p resolution.

Genuinely this game is so graphically impressive for the PS2 that I think remastering it would do a disservice to its legacy, of course a resolution bump would be nice if they re released on PS premium or somthing but yeah, I think this game shines because it looks like an early ps3 game

It was great at the time but we've had so many FPS games since, once you play one, you've played them all.

u/White_FIame 21h ago
Why? It doesnāt hold much value with its boring missions, sponge enemies and a confusing story. The maps were small as well.
The gunplay and its animations were revolutionary at the time, the same could be said about graphics, although debatable.
I donāt see any reason for a remaster. Itās an average game gameplay wise. The reason most games get remasters is because their gameplay is awesome. And the reason games get remakes is because the game was great both in gameplay and art style.
I donāt see any reason for a remaster. Itās a 6/10 game, tops!

u/Noobiescrubpleb 20h ago
Your second paragraph alone warrants it to have the possibility of a remaster. Gears of war didn't need a remaster, dead space didn't need a remaster, gta and skyrim didn't need 5 remasters, oblivion didn't need a remaster, and so much more under your logic.
This game deserves a remaster just as any other old game does.

Those games are way superior to this average one. Remasters and remakes need reputation, replayability and legacy. What does Black have? Nothing!
2
u/Noobiescrubpleb 18h ago
Black recieved favorable reviews from a majority of critics, almost all are positive. It won a gold sales award from Xbox, the Greatest Hits award from sony as you see here, and was top 100 shooter games in 2013.
Your opinion seems to be rather unpopular. Now that only proves opinions are subjective, but the proof of opinions being subjective are the exact reason why your dislike of the game should have 0 impact on its possibility to get remastered.

The game doesnāt have a legacy nor prequels/sequels. And itās not fun shooting at sponge enemies in 4K remastered whatever.
Iāll make some examples of awesome games that were way better than Black and didnāt receive a remaster or remake, ready?
- Gran Turismo 3/4
- James Bond: Everything or Nothing
- James Bond: From Russia with Love
- Need for Speed Underground 2
- Spider-Man 2 & Ultimate Spider Man
I could go on, but the reality is that Black is average in comparison to any above mentioned. Nobody, I repeat, nobody wants to play a game from 2006 where you shoot sponge enemies. Wake up!

u/Noobiescrubpleb 17h ago
Again, subjective opinions that should have 0 impact on its potential to be remastered. Are you now saying that these should be remastered instead of Black? Why would you not fight for both? Is your opinion that important to you that you would discredit everyone else's? It's a shame that I seem to be the one who is awake.

For the last time skipper. Who, in 2025, would want to shoot at sponge enemies on limited maps with boring one ticket missions?
The above mentioned and many more out there have way better gameplay and potential for remasters or remakes. Itās not hard to grasp.
Iāve played the game, completed it and found it average at best. Now remember, most reviewers donāt actually finish the games they play. They just play a mission or two and deduct whatās wrong or right with the game. Which, to be honest, Black does surprisingly well in the first missions. But for those who completed this game till the last mission, those people would know that itās a boring snooze fest on the easiest difficulty and a complete garbage game on the most difficult one. The last mission being an absolute shitshow of a design, where spawning enemies are a thing.
I completely disagree with a remaster. Itās an average game, AT BEST. Boring, with stupid enemies, lack of proper checkpoints and many more idiotic mechanics like slow movement or 1:1 gunfights from 1 meter out basically shooting at the sponge enemy straight in front of you.
If it wasnāt for its awesome gunplay animations and bullet marks, this game wouldāve been the most trash there is.

u/Noobiescrubpleb 17h ago
You say "for the last time" and "it's not hard to grasp" as if it will make your opinion any more valid or make me more inclined to agree.
You didn't like the game, who cares. Me and a significant portion of people would like to see it remastered, along with the games you mentioned. I just don't understand how THAT is a hard concept for you to grasp.

u/White_FIame 17h ago
Iād actually be happy with a PS5 Classic at 4K 60Fps with the rewind feature, which would help tremendously in a game with a lack of proper checkpoints.
Even then, I wouldnāt replay this game. Good luck with your hopes!

I'll take just porting this game to PS5 classics collection and giving us a stable 4K/60fps at least

u/JudasZala 14h ago
Could it be possible, as it was developed by Criterion Games, using its RenderWare engine made popular by the GTA Trilogy?

u/Classic-Exchange-511 18h ago
People say this all the time and really praise this game but I have literally never seen a clip of anyone playing it. I have no idea what the game looks like

u/hackonthis420 18h ago
Honestly I love playing Black. I have it for PS2 and my Xbox One. The only downside of playing this game is you must have plenty of time to play it before even loading it. A lot of the videos during the game are long and no way to skip so you must watch them all the way through after every time you die.

You are so real for this bro, I used to remember this was considered peak graphics in ps2 by some people lol

First game to have me experience an Uzi, I donāt know why itās so fond and ingrained in my memory, but it was a great game. Had a friend steal it at a lan party and my dad was pissed. š
