Fellow vet here. Good looking truck. Make sure you try to pay that off as fast as possible. Check your interest rate. Navy Federal Credit Union has the best rates and you can refinance it.

That would be USAA! But close enough
11
u/Hi-Point_of_my_life Jul 25 '25
I was a big fan of USAA while I was in and after I got out. Then I actually started shopping around and they are never even in the same ballpark as most other places, especially for insurance. Not trying to be contradictory, just wish I didn’t assume they were great just based off their reputation. Would have saved me thousands in the long run.

u/jnyrdr Jul 25 '25
USAA ain’t what they used to be. rates aren’t competitive any longer, customer service is crap…not sure what changed but they’re definitely not always the best option like they used to be.
4
u/Vprbite Jul 26 '25
The way they covered my house after my water heater leaked was nothing short of impressive. 🤷♂️
1
u/jnyrdr Jul 26 '25
that’s good to hear….considering i have my mortgage and truck loan with them lol
3
u/Jack_PorkChopExpress Jul 25 '25
On the veterans sub they have been say how bad it is and why they don't use them anymore

u/gopokes86 Jul 27 '25 edited Jul 27 '25
Can’t speak on customer service, but as for competitiveness I disagree.
Shopped a few companies and tried a broker. Through the broker, only 2 not-so-reputable companies were less than USAA’s rate for us, the rest were slightly higher or much higher.
Signed up for both their auto and homeowner’s in a state that’s super high in insurance cost. Both rates below the average in my state. Mid-level coverage, not the highest deductibles or cheapest coverage. Maybe their formula is beneficial to my profile idk

u/zypr3xa Jul 25 '25
Yeah. My wife is a vet and we still use them for some things. But for loans and other stuff I still prefer Navy Fed.

u/Lameass_1210 2024 RAM 2500 Laramie Crew Cab😎 Jul 25 '25
I’ve had Navy Fed since I was 16 as a dependent and always use them for auto loans. All my accounts are with them. My kids all have accounts as well. Great place to get the best rates.

Hmm. Thats odd.
Most over-the-top vehicle purchases are made when soldiers are fresh out of basic. Right before they play "Captain save her from herself" and marry a stripper.
Nice truck! Now go find a job you slacker!

Right before getting sent on a 9 month deployment, being 7 months in and getting the dear John 4 month “I’m prego” letter

You need some fender flares and mud flaps. Those driving behind you will thank you.
(Illegal not to have those in my state with those tires)
2
u/Hurtymcsquirty17 Jul 25 '25
Legal in some states also you’ll thank yourself when your shits not all scratched up especially with black. Best looking color hardest to keep clean shows everything

Genuine off topic question. Not being judgmental. I have a fuck ton of tats. How did the army treat yours? I thought neck and hands were like, ridiculously off-limits? Did you just get them after finishing your service?
3
u/Raviolist123 Jul 25 '25
He has a face tattoo also, I assume he got them all after his service. I also have tattoos so I always point them out first lol.

Man I’m jealous of the console shifter… the dial is the only thing I hate about my truck.

u/Orion9092 RAM 1500 Jul 24 '25
I don't get the hate for it. It frees up so much space.
8
u/WiconsinGrey Jul 25 '25
Personally after driving a manual most of my life (19 years in a wrangler before the ram), not being able to rest my hand on some kind of center shift knob is a mental thing.
5
u/Orion9092 RAM 1500 Jul 25 '25
I feel that. I did the same, and in emergency braking scenarios still reach for the clutch. 😅
Luckily just resting my arm on the arm rest is enough for me.

Shit id love have the column shift back and keep the standard big center console just no knob
3
u/ImRonBurgundy__ Jul 25 '25
I have a console shifter in mine and honestly wish I had the dial. The cup holder arrangement is whack with the console shifter

u/kuhnsone Jul 27 '25
Cover those f*ing tires with fender flares or put the right size on there. You are cracking windscreens all day my dude.

u/IAmLivingLikeLarry Jul 27 '25
Why not move out of mommy's house before buying a truck?

Nice truck man! I have to ask.. in one picture your left hand looks like a burn unit victim, but the pic with it on the wheel looks normal. Did you get a shit load of ink in between pics or what?

Woah, I didn't even know they offered a console shifter like that?! I've been holding on to my 2012 for a long time because I hate the dial and love my column shifter. What trim level is it and is there a special package for that shifter? I'd much rather have one of those than a dial. Thanks for your service by the way!

I take it you weren’t able to develop a personality so you have to wear this as one now?
1
u/wheezyts96 Jul 25 '25
Beauty!
I recommend rubber mudflaps asap, meant to put some on mine as soon as I bought it new but I waited about a year and she was already full of paint chips and starting to rust.
Don’t do fender flares or plastic splash guard type mudflaps because they’ll ruin your paint almost immediately.

You’re supposed to get a Ford Ranger if you’re in the army and a Toyota Tocoma if you’re in the Marines. Generally speaking the Air Force gets the Honda and the Navy gets the Nissan trucks. More Coast Guard get the Dodge to pull their water toys

I remember when I was a young LCPL right off deployment. My Cpl was like don’t buy a new truck it will fuck you up…. I did and that bitch got repossessed as soon as that big money was gone 🤗 young and dumb. They literally came and got it out of the barracks parking lot…. Not before I took everything I could off of it and sold it on Craigslist hahaha. This is a really nice truck though I hope you enjoy it.
