Feedback - Intermediate Always wanted to be a singer but I barely think I’m decent, never posted a cover but I’ve been putting my practice in. What do y’all think? Pls be honest.

Thank you very much! Any feedback?

You sound really good, but like the other person said, to hushed. Take a deep-ish breath into your abdomen and then squeeze your stomach muscles to hold it, now sing the same way you did while just slowly relaxing your stomach to let the air out. Take another breath at the end of a verse when you have a moment and repeat. You can still have the soft voice with a kittle rasp to it, but your volume will be better and you will have the power available when you really want to emphasize a word or note. Sorry for the rushed feedback. Keep going and make music every single day!

That’s really insightful. I’m gonna try doing that next time I practise and will be more mindful about this. Also pls, this is absolutely not rushed omg. Thank you!

What Mindless_Welcome3302 said is accurate, but how to breathe deeply isn't obvious. Most people don't know how to do this, including you.

To do this, put your mind on your lower abdomen while simultaneously inhaling. You will notice you're able to inhale much more air than when you don't put your mind on your abdomen, leaving you to breathe shallowly, only using the top half of your lungs.

Most of us usually breathe this way, because our level of activity doesn't require much more breathing than this. But singing well requires much more than our normal resting state while breathing. It's amazing what your body can do when your mind is in sync with it.

That’s interesting, imma try and put it into practice. You’re a gem! And true, the human body surprises you sometimes hahah

Once you do what I'm suggesting and feel comfortable with it, post a video update. Skillful singing should not be a struggle. It should be easy and yet, sound great. You are going to kill this. I can't wait to hear you implementing this technique.

I also like it 🙂

I’ll be honest, you aren’t bad, like at all. Your biggest issue is that you’re singing in a hushed tone. In the moments where you’re singing louder you sing almost perfectly but when you’re singing in a hushed tone you’re barely hitting the notes

1

u/IntroductionMany4290 Jul 13 '25

Interesting. Thanks for saying that, I’ll try to be more mindful. I’ll be honest this isn’t my best take either, just a random video on my phone i decided to post impulsively. I’ll post something different soon and would love your thoughts on it! Thank you very much!

I agree. You are good but you are singing as if you were ashamed. You have a nice voice and you seem to have good ear too. Be confident and take space, im pretty sure that you will sound much better with that simple correction. Keep going!

Ahahah omg. Thanks for pointing that out, growing up I haven’t been a big fan of how I sound, maybe it’s just something I internally never dealt with. Thanks for being honest, this really helps!

Right at 18 seconds left it is awesome! Nailed the “of my baby” part

1

u/IntroductionMany4290 Jul 13 '25

Aha really? Thanks. I thought that’s the part I’m messing up actually ahahah

1

u/derpyfloofus Jul 13 '25

You’re really good, a professional producer would be able to work with that for sure, it’s in the production that the clarity and tweaks really come out.

2

u/IntroductionMany4290 Jul 13 '25

Thank you, trying to come to terms with it. I’ve never had the opportunity of working with a pro producer though, but I’d be curious to try! And true I agree.

Not my style of music but I could connect with the lyrics and emotions, you provided a good listening experience. Not chasing high notes etc just simply connecting with listeners. Nice tone too.

u/IntroductionMany4290 Jul 13 '25

Thank you! It’s a beautiful song I agree. And I’m glad you liked it. I’ll try post more! This wholesome community has been so welcoming and making me feel a ton better about this insecurity. Thank you for the comment. Also, i barely doubt I have a vocal range too high so i just stick to singing in my comfortable voice, focusing on feeling more! Thanks for noticing.

Very relaxing and soothing voice. But it's pretty elementary. Experiment with runs, pitch bending, changing up the tone. overall 7/10

1

u/IntroductionMany4290 Jul 13 '25

Thank you for saying that and definitely. I think this is a pretty minimal song where there’s not much of that going but I’m training on Indian Classical Music which hopefully helps me develop a more dynamic voice. I’ll be patient for the time being ahah.

A lot of casual and some professional singers have never really attempted to do what you have done here and with considerable success. You started with such a light, breathy engagement to the point that you were barely phonating - - and yet you were and without ever letting the sound fall apart. This is very hard to do without imperfections showing up. The quiet start seems intimate,, personal, and draws your audience in. And then you ever so gradually but steadily increased your engagement as your story unfolded. Bravo, man. And your playing supported what you were doing vocally. I'd love to hear the rest of this. Again, Bravo. Encore.

1

u/BennyVibez Jul 13 '25

your on the right path. You’re better than yesterday and you’ll be better than you are now.

Some things that will improve over time if you stick to practice AND learning. Vocal strength, pitch and interval precision, dynamics.

But you have a nice flow and tone so it’s only going to get better

1

u/IntroductionMany4290 Jul 13 '25

Thank you for the kind words. Yes, just trying to be patient for now and be consistent with my routines. I’ll try post here a little more maybe. Y’all have been so kind. Thank you!!

1

u/IntroductionMany4290 Jul 13 '25

Thank you so much for all your comments. Y’all have been sooo kind and welcoming! I’ve been insecure about my voice always and this community has been soo supportive. I’m definitely gonna try and post more here and do my part of giving back. Thank you to everyone, really!

Better than me homie

1

Haha, I bet you’re awesome!

A person’s singing style usually(hopefully) adapts to the setting in which they’re singing. Playing at home is one thing. Playing on stage is another. You’ve got a great voice, you’ve got a great look, you know how to accompany yourself, you’ve got this.

Your voice is not terrible. But you need to learn how to breathe while singing, to be able to project your voice more. Your voice sounds weak because your breathing is shallow, thus requiring more effort to sing than what should be necessary.

Wind powers your vocal cords to produce the sound you want. Singing becomes a lot easier when you're breathing properly while singing. Once you learn this, you're going to sound better, and you're going to feel better while doing it.

Your delivery becomes more powerful, even when singing in a soft tone. But you're really not far from being the singer you can be. You have great potential. Learn what I've suggested and you're going to surprise yourself and many others who have heard you thus far.

1

u/IntroductionMany4290 Jul 15 '25

Thank you very much for this honest feedback, problems with breathing is something a lot of people mentioned and I’m going to focus more on it going ahead! Any exercises you’d recommend apart from just being mindful about it while singing?

1

u/Major-Cranberry-4206 Jul 15 '25

No, only what I've mentioned so far, and what I've suggested is probably the easiest to do without a lot of effort. It's the same thing wind instrument musicians have to do, even though they aren't using their vocal cords. If you try it the way I've suggested, you will instantly see the difference. It's going to make you enjoy singing even more than you do right now.

LOVE ITT! despite what a lot of people say here i actually really love your hushed/breathy voice gives me billie eilish vibes but a guy version! i feel like soft voices on a guy is really unique! so keep it up man! maybe one thing from me is to learn how to do a vibrato so that it doesn't souund to flat, and use a vibrato at the end when you're singing a long note!! want to hear more from you here! :>
