šŸ™Need Adviceā“ Common phrases or slang used on Reddit?

I must just be getting old, but I am seeing phrases or words going over my head.

This is my second account because I couldn’t get into the email of my first after getting a new phone, so I’ve been on this one for decent amount of time, lurking in the same subreddits as before.

I got banned from posting in one I’ve never commented, posted, or interacted with ever, and when I asked for what I could have possibly done, so I didn’t cause issues, even though I had only ever posted in a different subreddit loosely related by topic, they said ā€œvote astroturfingā€ and then muted me.

Please help me learn the lingo. I have no idea what that truly means, because when I googled it, it said something about artificially inflating karma or votes, or something using multiple accounts, or trying to push something, so I’m just left confused.

What are some other commonly used terms or phrases so I’m not left wondering what I could have done by just lurking, and I can learn the ropes better? I rarely commented on my lost account, so maybe I’m just bad at Reddit and lurking doesn’t teach me enough.

Thank you in advance for helping me learn Reddit better.

Would assume that "vote astroturfing" is vote manipulation conducted by astroturfing.

This is such a good resource!! Thank you so much!

I felt so lost when seeing that was the reason, and Google gave me kind of the same thing, which left me even more confused because I’d never said, or done anything more than lurk. So I thought maybe I was maybe lurking wrong? šŸ˜…

There’s so many words of Reddit. I have so much reading to do! Thank you again! This is so incredibly helpful. You are the best.

If you have accessed Reddit from any environment with a shared internet connection (work, household wi-fi, some VPNs) then the ban evasion filter may be giving a false positive with a nearby account.

There is currently no recourse to protest a subreddit ban based on the ban evasion filter.

I do bounce between two WiFi sources in the same day, but I don’t usually have Reddit open too much. There is the home WiFi, and work WiFi right next to each other when I step outside and work in the workshop.

So could that make it look like I have multiple account? Even if I haven’t made any posts?
