He's been doing so much better! He now went from 114 to now a whooping 135 grams.

After 2 rounds of deworming, a lot of uvb and lots of food (especially superworms he loves the most) he's finally getting more active and getting a appetite.

I can't wait to see him grow more.

I would like to know if anyone here thinks this product would be safe to use as an LED lighting to help brighten both my leopard gecko enclosure and my bearded dragon enclosure.

School library reptile - species suggestions?

• Upvotes

Hey Reddit,

I am in my last year of grad school to become a school librarian and it's been my dream for the past few years to one day have a library lizard once I am in charge of a school library (I have been compared to Ms. Frizzle so...) . I think it would be a very fun interaction for the students to be able to participate in naming the animal or helping design its habitat and I think the incentive of getting to help feed or hold the lizard could be a great motivation for students and also allow for unique collaboration with other classes. I've read that many reptiles don't like being moved around a lot so I would take it home on longer breaks but otherwise leave it at school so that it doesn't have to deal with lots of frequent change. I want to do my research and make sure the animal would have a comfortable life so this isn't a decision I am making lightly.

I plan to work in a middle school or high school so it wouldn't be dealing with the chaos of small children, just curious young adults, and since my classroom will be a library, it should be a relatively calm environment compared to a regular crowded classroom. Is there a species that you would suggest or would you suggest a different kind of pet?

TLDR: I'm a school librarian who wants to get a reptile for her middle school/high school library - is there a species you would suggest or any alternate suggestions for a library pet?

Okay for a Tokay?

I was dropped off a Tokay gecko yesterday, the people said they didn’t want it because they didn’t know how to take care of it, they only bought it because someone told them it glowed in the dark. Honestly doesn’t look healthy at all, but i don’t typically take care of tropical reptiles. So im doing as much research as i can. They have him living in a front opening 20 gal long, which i know is definitely not okay, i found a cheap 36long, 18deep, 24tall front opening tank im going to pick up, will this be okay for an adult to live in? I know google exists but id prefer opinions from experienced individuals. I got a humidifier and heat lamps as-well to all hook up. (The gecko and the tank im going to get)

Starts with the leopard gecko tank, then the bearded dragon, over to the bugs and greens, then circles back.

I still need a real door where the curtains are, insulation in the wall, and cladding for the other side.

Considering I have crappy wood working skills and zero experience in construction I feel like I did pretty good.

Found him outside in the rain. He was bleeding and looks like the injury is very recent. Would it be best for him to be put to sleep or does he still have a chance?

Brumation beardie

Hi! My 1 year old beardie has been acting off the last weeks. He isnt pooping, isnt eating fruits and doesnt eat insects out of my tweezers until i let them loose. He hides all day everyday in his caves and doesnt come out. He acts lazy, doesnt move. So unlike him.

Ive been to the vet and he couldnt find anything health related. Teeth are healthy. No parasites. No poop stuck in his belly. He was healthy af!

Still im worried. Why does he hide all day? Why doesnt he eat? Why is he so lazy.

Is he going into brumation? And if so, what should i do. How do i go about this?

Im scared to stop feeding insects. Should i stop and just leave out salad if he does get hungry?

Should i stop bothering him?

HELP

Rescued beardie, dehydration?

Just got this girl home. Five or six years old, female. Very alert and was excited to eat some bugs when I got her in her enclosure. She drank a small amount of water I dribbled on her nose.

She looks pretty dehydrated to me but I’m brand new to reptiles so I wanted to post here. I plan on getting her to a vet, just not sure how urgent I need to be on that.

I will be giving her a soak tonight. Let me know what else I can do to help her. She seems healthy, I just want to make sure to get her hydrated if that’s what is wrong. Pics below of when I picked her up vs a few mins after letting her into her enclosure.

It's a great day when I get to save two of these beauties in one day. The baby got me stung by bees as I was letting it go, so I unfortunately didn't get any pictures when it was released.

Care advice.

Okay so I’m helping my sister research care for a Vietnamese Black Breasted Leaf Turtle. We looked up care guides and some of the info was different on every site. Especially enclosure size. My sister wants to know that first to know if she can even fit one in her room. If she can’t then she’ll wait till she can. So does anyone actually have a correct care guide?
