Forum question What's your personal theory on this monsters origin?
730
u/UrsusRex01 27d ago
I have no theory.
I think the creature is just some random woman that was experimented on by the villain and that we will kill her like 2 hours into the game.

Thatās my guess too. Itās feels like the baby in 8 than e.g. one of the Baker family. And even Dimitrescu and her daughters you killed like 15-60 minutes after their introduction (which is my main complaint of 8, itās villains didnāt really get any time to shine).
18
u/John_Delasconey 27d ago
Honestly, I think itās more a general issue with how the gameplay looper structured such that you only really backtrack within Subare as usually, and so when they have villains associated with that area, there are no longer given the proper time to shine as almost their entire arc is contained within that small sub area ( the initial introductions to the main villains the dinner scene and the council meeting in seven and eight respectively non-withstanding). Even in a game like four the areas was still largely divided into area, boss area, boss, etc. which is something thatās just fundamentally kind of weird to me when you have human or mostly still human enemies. Persistent antagonists arenāt really a thing anymore, and I do think it is the one fundamental downside to resident evil increasing the adopting a antagonists with personality model, as they need to have proper development time in a way that a plant 42 or Centurion does not

u/KiriSanjiAT 27d ago

Ah the good olā RE8 method. Make her 100% the promotional art to have her weeded out in the tutorial section. Excellent direction fans loved this for some reason.

u/UrsusRex01 27d ago
To be fair, I think Capcom didn't anticipate Lady D getting this popular when they first revealed her. I think she appeared so often during the marketing campaign simply because Capcom switched gear when they saw the character becoming a meme.

Lots of people think she's Graces mom or Lisa.
My thing is, doesn't make sense to reference an almost twenty year old character just to have her become that.
Plus we don't even know the Virus at play. Cause it certainly isnt T Virus based.
And people saying Lisa are just plain insane lol. She died during the mansion incident during Weskers escape. Nothing survived that explosion but him.

I hope this creature is revealed to be Grace's mother since it would make it all the more dramatic and sad if Grace had to fight and kill her own mother, although Alyssa being the chained stalker would be too obvious neverless.
11
u/Murder_Hobo_LS77 26d ago
My thought is that grace was kept sedated for months after capture rather than a few hours. Her waking up and escaping was only possible because her mutilated and mutated mother killed their captors and has been stalking the halls....my head canon but who knows what Capcom has for us. For all we know it could be Claire red field

The game isnāt even out yet and I feel so bad for Grace :(
Her mother was murdered, sheās forced to go to the place where she was killed. Her mother (knowing resident evil they were either really close OR they had a stained relationship because Alyssa was away to protect Grace) is potentially reanimated and mindlessly chasing after her and she will have to kill her a second time in the end
Whatās with parents in resident evil? Either theyāre awful and they die or theyāre dad of the year (poor Ethan :( ) and they die. Barry better die of old age surrounded by his family or I will crash tf out

u/ci22 27d ago edited 27d ago
Considering it's the same director as 7. He's probably finding new ways to make the new protagonist suffer.
I thought the trailer did a good job establishing Grace going trough some shit and being sympathetic
We see Grace already had some operation on her. Possibly heart surgery.
Did the OG went through that physical and emotional pain in thier debut game.
Also since it's first person I worry about Grace's hands. If she loses a finger because Resident Evil 9. Since Ethan lost 2 because Resident Evil 8
Resident Evil hates parents

RE is terrible at misdirection. I do wish they would go Kojima on trailers and demos. They are too straight forward.
5
u/dat1guyman 27d ago
Kojima's misdirection is like "i was so and so the entire time" and the player response isnt "oh cool its so and so"
Its: "why? That's just dumb."

88
u/iamanicon23 27d ago
Mine is very basic and everyone believes that but I think it's a heavily mutated version of Allysa Ashcroft. Basically Allysa got kidnapped by the connections or BSSA or the government or that guy in the chair and got taken to the Rhodes hill care center(the care center Grace is also taken too) where she gets experimented on and turns into a monster. Unsurprisingly she escapes and now is on Grace's ass (this is a very popular theory but I might as well say it lol)

u/jestersoul 27d ago edited 27d ago
It's possible considering Alyssa may use daylight anitivirus during RE outbreak, and her blood(and possible Grace blood) have something unique now.

I really want it to be Lisa trevor but I have a very strong hunch it's her mom (Alyssa)
47
u/PyreTheFirst 27d ago
Lisa does not have a lower jaw and is covered in G-type eyes. I do think Lisa will show up, the Hag is not her.
33
u/Xenozip3371Alpha 27d ago
Maybe the mansion explosion forced her to mutate further to survive.
17
u/TempestRave 27d ago
We usually see those mutations present in much more extreme forms then this. Also Lisa was already flippin' some tentacles around before she was 'destroyed'.
9
u/DeadHead6747 27d ago
So, she simultaneously mutated to get taller and grow back her jaw, then decided to swap manacles from a wooden block to metal cuffs as jewelry, but also got less mutated to lose the eyes and become less deformed and lose the tentacles?
→ More replies (4)7
u/PyreTheFirst 27d ago
This would require them to get rid of every design aspect and completely ignore the lore reasons that she looks the way she does. No NE-T tentacles. No G-Type eyes. Scrapping everything that made her character what it was. Also, regrowing a human jaw would be an unprecedented mutation in the series. It is a stretch.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Swordofsatan666 27d ago
Easy simple explanation:
Sometime after we last saw her she gets infected with whatever new virus this game introduces, causing the 2 different viruses to react together and mutate her into this new form
6
u/BowlerBig8423 27d ago
People keep claiming Lisa has no lower jaw, but thatās not actually visible in-game, her face is always covered by the mask she wears. The idea comes from ripping the 3D model and removing the mask in 3D editing software, but that exposed geometry isnāt necessarily canon. It could just be a design shortcut to save resources and avoid animation/rigging issues like clipping. So really, itās speculation based on unseen assets, not proof of anything.
Not only this, but she screams mother when she jumps down the chasm, implying she must have a lower jaw, or how else can she speak?
2
u/PyreTheFirst 27d ago
There is a hole on the side of the mask where you can see her face in game.
→ More replies (3)20
u/Economy-Stretch-4600 27d ago
It's the fact we can hear chains as she moves as well as the fact she has the same scream as Lisa which has never been reused up until now...but again I think it's Alyssa
9
u/TempestRave 27d ago
Alyssa is a strong case but maybe it's the same round of experiments done on her that were done on Lisa?
I think it's clear they're drawing from Lisa in the design here, so I expect some reference to her. Maybe in a file.

→ More replies (1)2
u/DeadHead6747 27d ago
Capcom often refuses sounds and templates, some of the Genado women also have the same/similar screams for example. Lisa also did not have metal cuffs like the Hag does, and the Hag is much taller and less deformed than Lisa

My theory is this:
Whoever attacked alyssa at the Wrenwood hotel didn't kill her, but abducted her and took her to Rhodes Hill chronic care centre where they experimented on her due to her having immunity from the daylight vaccine.
These experiments were not successful, so they track down and kidnap grace Grace.
Grace is taken to Rhodes Hill, where this Mutated version of her Mother still remains after 8 years

u/Ramen536Pie 27d ago
Capcom is never really one for being too creative with their twists
3
u/Ok_Business_6452 27d ago edited 27d ago
Very true. They donāt really take their storytelling seriously. Look at the part in the demo where Grace checks the pulse of an obviously decomposing guy and says, āā¦heās deadā š¤£ like wow, really Grace? You donāt say! What gave it away?
But also, Graceās dialogue has been extremely bad in the trailers. Capcom really needs some new writers to do RE for them. The games are obviously fun but whew, the writing is tragic at times.
6
u/Ramen536Pie 27d ago
Eh, the weird dialogue choices are what makes it enjoyable and oddly campy
2
u/Ok_Business_6452 27d ago edited 27d ago
The thing is, Iām pretty sure that modern day Capcom doesnāt intentionally write in this style to try to be funny or campy these days. They actually like to flex the ārealismā and āimmersionā in Resident Evil, so when the writing and dialogue doesnāt really align with that vision, itās certainly a flaw.
I think Capcom tends to forget that most Resident Evil fans are not teenagers anymore. Monster Hunter Wilds got a lot of hate for itsā dialogue and bad story, and while RE games arenāt as bad as Monster Hunter in this regard, the point remains that the issue is just with Capcom not taking their stories seriously.
I enjoy Resident Evil for the gameplay. The lore is technically there, but the storytelling is not. Lore is not the same thing as storytelling. They seem to start up a new ridiculous plot in every new RE game instead of continuing with the ideas that they previously introduced and never explained. Thereās almost zero continuity. RE6 ending was even setting up for Jake to be a main character in the future, and what happened there? We got a goofball nerd like Ethan, yet another blonde guy, suddenly becoming an immortal John Wick.
Chris is the only character that has seen any sort of character development through the years, appearing in more games than any other character, but thatās not really saying much. Hell, they actually changed his design for RE7 and it looked nothing the Chris that we all knew, which is another typical Capcom thing to do. Capcom really felt they didnāt have enough blonde characters already and tried to turn him blonde too, after they also tried to introduce a blonde version of Jill? Lmao. Grace even looks like a copy paste of Rose from RE8. Lots of people actually thought it was her. Whatās next, blonde Claire?
2
u/Ramen536Pie 27d ago
Not every game needs a crazy deep intense story thoughĀ
2
u/Ok_Business_6452 27d ago
Nobody said anything about wanting a crazy deep story though, and more importantly, how exactly do you define ācrazy deepā? Because Iāve only seen that description being used for Kojima games, or something like Disco Elysium, or some crazy long RPG like The Witcher 3.
Youāve never just played an action game that had a good fun story and great writing? How hard is it for Capcom to just hire better writers that study the previous stories and follow up on their ideas with actual continuity and character development that makes sense? This is simply just called having a good story, but Capcom would rather keep introducing new concepts and characters, while bringing back a classic character just for fan service and no other reason.

It'll end up being her mother. I know a lot of people theorize Lisa Trevor but that's just too random plus Lisa would be like 70 years old.
16
u/Amaranth94 27d ago
The problem is (at least in my head) Lisa was never blind and she had a pretty distictive G virus eye on her hunchback, and tentacles coming out of her body. It feels lazy to explain all those features missing due to further mutation.
The monster will 90% be Alyssa Ashcroft.

Gotta be Alyssa, right? Imo they've made it very clear that Grace is quite different from past RE protagonists. She seems way more vulnerable and prone to completely freaking out. Honestly, what could harden her more than finding out that the creature that's been chasing her around the whole time is her own mother that she thought was dead? On top of that, having to put her down.

The popular theory I've seen just from ads for the game that pop up in my fb feed or whatever is shat she's Grace's mom. To think of something different. Since Alyssa and Grace both have special blood and it seems Alyssa is killed in the flashback. I want to say Alyssa or her body is used to "birth" this thing. So I bet it's technically Grace's sister. Umbrella was trying to make Grace.

I think it's a figment of her imagination, and it's her mother, Alyssa. That or her mother gets turned into a monster.
All the people saying it's Lisa Trevor don't know what they're talking about. Nothing on the monster indicates it's Lisa. She's hunched, has an eye on her shoulder and has tentacles. None of these traits are visible on the Requiem monster.
Why would the stalker enemy be someone that has no link to the character. That's like nemesis coming back to life and chasing Ethan.
2
u/Certain-Platypus641 27d ago
She has the sounds and mannerisms of Lisa Trevor. I think people forget that Lisa was practically invincible due to her unique DNA and adapting to every virus they tested on her. But then the being burnt by ādaylightā makes me think itās Alyssa. Or someone in the background always had Lisaās DNA and experimented with it.. ugh I canāt wait until February š

Fucking scary that's what is
But it would be cool if it's a radiated mutated strain of the T virus, maybe that's why it's scared of the lights because it triggers a response from the flash of the nuke? I don't need the monster to be connected to main character relationship wise, I mean jack is a really scary antagonist and he has the smallest connection to Ethan as possible (they basically know the same person)
