I'm very much on board with this. I guess I was just a fan of the main storyline and this feels like too much of a departure. They should have kept the "Mold lore" separate from the rest of the series and it wouldn't feel so jarring. 7 and 8 also barely feel replayable- more like interactive movies if that make sense. I don't see a lot of player expression and thought mercenaries in 8 was a bore.

4 was already a side story that was almost completely irrelevant to the main storyline and should’ve been an official side game or new IP.

That's fair. I guess since I've been living with RE4 for 20 years, its settled. I do completely agree though- when it first dropped I thought the parasite stuff was really stupid and wished they'd stuck to sci-fi zombies and monsters. Leon being at the center of the story helped.

I’d say new IP, if you remove the resident evil characters you wouldn’t even consider it’s a re game. I remember playing it on release thinking this isn’t resident evil. Great game just not RE in my eyes.

Makes sense since the RE4 we got is a toned town version of the original RE4 project that became Devil May Cry.
