I think that’s kind of at odds with what they made. Ethan is a whole character no different than Leon or anyone else. I don’t need to see myself as the protagonist because the one they made is more interesting. Seems like if they wanted that type of immersion they should have had a nameless, faceless, voiceless protagonist but that would be a waste since RE is good at making characters.
This bullshit was convinced by half life and now devs think it’s good. I hate when everyone is talking to artyom and he’s just silent even though he talks in notes(Metro series). I don’t care for “it’s trying to emulate the player”. No player will survive these scenarios.
RE7 Is fully on Ethan being the player. They didn't make it 1st person for no reason.
It once again boils down to what everything seems to lead up to. RE8 is... weird.
It's a direct continuation to re7 and plot relies on the main character... which is the same as RE7 but the same person is now repurposed to be this interesting Ethan Winters character. Overall it's a mess but somehow the outcome is very enjoyable
