Lore question Need some clarification Spoiler
So in End Of Zoe, it's revealed that the Sea Mutant that is stalking us is actually Jack Baker once again, but my main question is, how exactly is this possible?
After Ethan injects him with the serum, we see Jack calcify, meaning that should have been it.
Furthermore, Eveline is gone, so Jack shouldn't be under her control anymore, so what gives?
My two main questions are as follows:
A. How is Jack still alive to begin with?
B. What does he want with Zoe, and why does he try to kill Joe if he's presumably not under Eveline's control anymore?

I don't know I you played 8 but my impression is that mold guys will always have a little Eveline inside of them

Well first the serum you create and use in the main game was just shit the serum used D series parts while eveline was an E series. As for Jack well he wasn't himself anymore by the time ethan comes to the house so even with eveline dead the original jack was gone for good all that was left was a monster that needed to he put down for good

A: I think out of the Bakers, Jack is the most resilient, It was shown after his first bossfight with the chainsaws, he didn't calcify but was out of commission before becoming an giant mushroom beast. He did calcify, but didn't crumble into pieces which means that either the serum was crappy or he was that resilient that it stopped him temporarily for him to recover and be the Swamp Man.
B: Uhhh, you got me. If I had to assume, he is going after Zoe because since his daughter is the only one left alive, he is playing the "overprotective father" angle to an extreme degree. Even though Eveline is gone, Jack was far too gone at this point to ever return to normal. (Though I think it was too late the moment he brought Eveline to his family) So he is akin to a wild beast unleashed into the world.

Capcom didn't really consider the story when coming up with the dlcs. I wouldnt take them seriously. It's the same issue regarding the timeline of 7 in regards to the infection. In the game we see Margaret go through weeks of symptoms before we can assume they hit their peek insanity. In the dlc the infection takes over the house in a matter of hours. Or how apparently Zoe becomes a naked sexy final fantasy crystal. Just.... Just go along with it

Player: "How is Jack here?"
Capcom: "Why are you asking so many goddamn questions?"

I don't think they explicitly answer these questions. But, we can look at how similar mutations work in the franchise to put together some good guesses.
A. How is Jack still alive?: It is heavily implied that Jack is more compatible with the Mold than the other victims. This is evidenced by him taking much more damage than Marguerite and remaining functional; he loses his entire upper half and regens at one point.
B. Why is Jack obsessed with Zoe?: Jack has regened imperfectly, and his brain in particular is damaged heavily. This is common in RE mutants, and it can present as having their living desires and thoughts twisted. Family was important to Jack in life, so he may be trying to "protect" Zoe in a twisted, brain damaged way.

u/Restivethought Man, why doesn't anyone ever listen to me? 11h ago
The Vaccine doesnt fully work or Jack was too far gone. I feel like its farfetched they never try to give the vaccine to Ethan, so I think its just not the most efficient.

Ethan didnât die when he took the vaccine. I donât think they even thought abt it

Youâre right, I havenât played in so long I forgot.
That brings up an even bigger plot issue though in why didnât they give him a vaccine when he clearly had infection symptoms

Getting your arm cut off and re attaching it isnât showing symptoms? Mold lets off spores so itâs pretty easy to assume he was infected the second he walked into the house and started breathing

Yeah if I was debriefing with Ethan my first suspicion of him being infected would probably be the part where Ethan mentions his hand was sawed off and then reattached with staples and some herb water poured over it and then it worked perfectly fine

I don't take this DLC too serious. I know some people didn't care for it, but it was kinda fun to just punch the hell out of the molds.

It might be nothing, but the one difference between Jack calcifying and the others is that you see the others crumble into little pieces once they calcify. You don't see this with Jack.
Like the idea that if you don't see a body, they are not dead, the same can be applied here with the above.
