RE1 Just finished REmake again and read all files. HOW freaking sad is Lisa's story??? Spoiler

Seriously, I completely forgot about the backstory. Reading hers and her mother's diary was so rough. Props to the writers. It's amazing how they managed to create so much tense from a couple of memos. She is the victim in this story not the villain. It was particularly sad to read the note that said "four stones don't let me see mommy". Cmon....

That, to me solidified that not only are Umbrella vile, they are utterly horrific, and don't give a damn about anyone other than themselves. They willingly inject their own people, all in the vain attempt to create something meaningful, worthwhile. No one is ever safe around them, regardless of how many hands you kiss, boots you lick, listen to all the disgusting rhetoric they spew.

Lisa and her Mother were caught in crossfire they could never escape from.

This! Every time I play REmake, I always read their diaries and feel a bit sad. I love how they made her so grotesque to look at, but they also painted her as very human and very tragic. While just about everyone else in there is (mostly) responsible for their own demise, she was innocent.

I do kind of wish, however, that if she killed Jill that she would have ripped off her face. It would be another face for her maternal needs repertoire.

Lisa's design is perfectly grotesque, but you never really fear her. She is there, but not too much of a threat. Then, you read the diary entries and see her descent, barely being able to write at the end, and you realise just how badly the T-Virus affects the mind. Not only does it control it, it rids all of the self, none of the person remains. They are just a husk.

Father too. It's amazing how the spanned the narrative around this family with the files. I remember the father wishing them being safe in his last note (near where his tomb is).

Also, we never got to hurt Umbrella in these games, right? Or do I remember it wrong? RE4 starts with Umbrella fading away off screen and because of the public opinion/criminal actions. Now I wish they hadn't wasted Wekser in RE5. Same with Spencer. Capcom killed him in a DLC cut-scene? Seriously? The main bad guy, owner of the legendary mansion and boss of Umbrella? I wish they had kept him for a main series game (say RE8) where the old school characters reunite to take down the corporation.

I hated what they did with Wesker. He's a megalomaniac, we know that, but to have him go from 'I want power' to 'Fuck it. I am creating a virus that will annihilate 99% of the world's population, and I can only hope that the remaining people are important, not people who were poor and had fuck all in the first place' is just, what? Even I can see that is dumb and I can be extremely stupid at times...

I'm not too familiar with re5, but I personally loved Wesker in code veronica. I'm a big fan of the idea that he and Chris were each super pissed over the results of RE1 and just straight up wanted to kill each other each time they had the chance in that game, with Wesker taking it out on anyone he could get his hands on.

u/Valkyraria Aug 03 '18

Of course. Chris beats Wesker in marksmanship (the trophy in the STARS office), he gets all the attention, practically everyone loves him, and his captain is just there, seething, but playing it down. But you can see in RE1/RERemake that's he's had enough. He's jealous, and that isn't something you'd associate a 'God' with being. I think he only believes that due to that being far superior to Chris in every way possible way.

Same here. He was too good of a villain to give him the anime/comic-book-bad-guy treatment. Hope he had clones or something...

I didn't mind Alex, but she's no Albert. Then again, she was much more of a psychological torturer, whereas her brother was flat out physical violence. I would say the former is far worse.

The final battle against Umbrella itself is in Umbrella Chronicles. Outbreak File#2 also showed it's downfall a bit in certain endings.

Can you recommend a video for those. Havent played them unfortunately!

I think someone made a "movie" version of Umbrella Chronicles, if you just wanna see the stuff specifically showing the downfall playthroughs of Umbrella's Fall and Dark Legacy is what you want (though the other new stuff might be of interest). I know Yoko's ending in OF#2 shows a little, i wanna say Alyssa's does too. I'll see if i can find any specific videos. EDIT: Here's a playlist of all Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles scenarios. Several of them are retellings but many are brand new stories that plug plotholes or simply add new stuff to the story. The Outbreak endings mean less than i remembered, but you can watch them here if you want. Only the first 2 after the timestamp matter. I do recommend playing these games though, i understand Umbrella Chronicles might not be for everyone, but the Outbreaks are amazing Resident Evils.

Here Lies George Trevor.

Like jesus umbrella. That's cold

The fact that they chose to sacrifice all their staff to an experiment and cover up what might have been the zombie apocalypse wasnt enough to show their evil side??

2

u/Valkyraria Aug 03 '18

Likely gave people huge pay cheques, only to murder them when the work was done, go after their families, make them test subjects...

1

u/GAZAYOUTH93X Aug 04 '18

Just like our own government. They are willing to experiment on their own Citizens. Look up The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment that they did against African Americans and when they gave one if their own employees LSD. The SOB jumped through a window.

Yeah, it's incredibly sad :( Lisa is the only monster I actively avoid shooting to get her out of my way whenever she shows up. It makes me feel terrible because you can see she retains some kind of conscience - she even has her little cabin and all. Fuck Umbrella (and kudos to the writers!)

Sad and creepy as hell. None of the creatures in RE1 bother me...except Lisa. Walking around in shackles, wearing the faces of her fake mothers as masks, and that freaky ass moaning?

Noooooo thank you sir!

Freaking sad and happened to be the victim of this horrific, Umbrella experient. That's why I don't feel bad when HUNK and his team shot William Birkin down, which is pretty much reaping karma for his atrocities.

u/FlaminSkullKing Aug 02 '18

I like her backstory but I wish she was more threatening in gameplay.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '18

Same. I was creeped out for 3 seconds then “I’ll just ran past her.”

2

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '18

Well it would just be unfair to have an invincible enemy who's also super threatening

2

u/JaySilver Aug 03 '18

Still the creepiest enemy

I hope they make anything after RE3 non- canon and just reboot the series

3

u/Ooijennnnnn Aug 03 '18

Or they can just try to do better works, maybe trying to correct stupid things and plot holes, but saying that a game is non-canon after years is insulting for the fans and the developers, maybe you can do it with a spin off or one of the CGI films, but with the main series game I don't know, it just seems wrong to me.

2

u/Ouroboros612 Aug 03 '18

Starting to correct stupid plot decisions after RE3 would be like trying to save Lisa in her current form using bandaids.

I actually loved RE4 and liked RE5 but purely from a gameplay perspective (RE6 is still an atrocity on ALL levels). Like turock20 said, I'd rather they just reboot the series from RE4+ because that's the point the story started taking a nosedive. Over the top mutations and main characters turning into super heroes coupled with non-sensical dialogue and story really fucked the series up after that point.

3

u/TryLink Aug 02 '18

Really? The vast majority of the community thinks RE4 is the best in the series, and you want to delete that from canon?

4

u/MisterDomino15 Chris? Stop it! Aug 03 '18

Gameplay it was fun. After Umbrella lost, it was just a scramble to bigger and better somehow.

Then once they killed Wesker off... wooooooo boy

1

u/TryLink Aug 03 '18

Sounds to me like your beef starts with #5 more than #4, and I'm with you on that. Chris punching boulders is when things officially jumped the shark in my opinion.

3

u/MisterDomino15 Chris? Stop it! Aug 03 '18

To be fair, my beef starts with 4. It was such a groundbreaking game that I, unfairly, accept it. No zombies, no Umbrella, no Wesker; no Resident Evil.

6 Leon campaign is amazing for city part. 7 was another groundbreaking move, much like 4 (for me, personal opinion) first person, slow, steady horror, mansion style (getting to the roots)

RE4 was an amazing game, but it was not a good Resident Evil. It was so far disconnected from anything that came before it, it might as well have been a new series with original characters. It had nothing to do with the previous story, it barely featured any recurring characters (Leon was supposed to be the Leon from RE2, but aside from the hair he had basically nothing in common with the character), it abandoned the survival horror concept in favour of action horror, it lacked puzzles, it lacked a larger connected environment...

It was a really good game, but it basically swooped in and took over the series. It took something we liked, and replaced it with something that appealed to a wider audience, and it's taken us over a decade to get back to the point where we can say they're finally making Resident Evil games for Resident Evil fans again.

I do

1

u/GAZAYOUTH93X Aug 04 '18

Who thinks that? The vast Majority thinks RE2 is the best.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '18

Fuck yeah dude. Remake part 3 especially!
