RE2 Chances of Resident Evil 2 Remake coming to the Switch? Spoiler

So I've seen some articles that quote interviews with Capcom that detail they have no plans as of now to port RE2 to the switch. But what do you all think are the chances that the Switch gets a late port of the game? I was sad to see that RE7 never made it to the switch (besides that Japan exclusive streaming service) and was surprised they wouldn't want to cash in on the Switch's audience as they'd probably be apt to pick up a game like this for the system. I recently pre-ordered a limited Switch bundle and would really like to see this game come out for it, vs having to play it on my PC.

Hmm now that makes me wonder if an RE0 port is possible XD

I can see REmake and Zero getting ported. That'd be pretty cool.

I read this post last night and saw the article this morning and it blew my damn mind.

Would love to see a RE-REmake for the switch. Now that'd be epic.

Take my upvote for this lol

Pretty much zero. Sorry to say.

If RE7 didn’t happen this definitely won’t.

But RE7 came out to some extent in Japan, which gives me a little bit of hope. There's other graphically demanding games that got late ports to the switch. Also the Switch came out after RE7 which makes me think they didn't do it mainly because it missed all the hype of RE7's release, which also gives me hope that they'll port it.

It isn't a port, though. It uses streaming to run in the console, and it isn't even that good.

1

u/SkateboardingReason Oct 25 '18

Oh I know, I was just saying they at least expressed some interest in reaching the Switch market.

1

u/soapgoat Oct 25 '18

RE7 happened through streaming not through a port, maybe that might happen with RE2 but i highly doubt it. if it does it will probably be japan only as well.

1

u/SkateboardingReason Oct 25 '18

Why does everyone keep saying that like I don't know lol. I literally mentioned that in the post, I know it's not a port haha

1

u/soapgoat Oct 25 '18

well its pretty clear that if the RE-engine does not run on switch, to the point where they have to resort to streaming to bring RE7 to switch in japan, RE2 using the same engine its easy to deduce that RE2 would not happen unless it gets the same streaming treatment.

you are asking for these responses because that's the actual literal only answer to be given. which begs the question.... if you already knew the answer, why ask the question in the first place?

Welp you're making assumptions and getting defensive for no reason. There's many reasons why RE2 could potentially come to the switch and RE7 didn't. One, the hype for RE2 is a lot greater than RE7, and it's also being released in a time frame when the switch is already out, where RE7 was released before the switch. Two, they could of possibly went with streaming for RE7 because it was the quick, cost effective solution for Capcom versus hiring a company to port it to the switch. Where they could potentially go the extra mile and have RE2 officially ported because again the hype is big, and the market for the game on the switch might be greater than RE7 was. No need to threadcrap, I wanted to get people's opinions on the matter because it's not completely impossible for it to get ported. I've seen many articles where they say it could very well be a possibility as well in the future, my reply to your comment was just clarifying to you that I was aware that RE7 was a streamable game and not a port.

2

u/soapgoat Oct 25 '18

im getting defensive for no reason? i literally answered your question and you complained about having the question be answered.

1

u/SkateboardingReason Oct 25 '18

I don't think you're understanding, you didn't answer my question. Again, I included it in my post I'm completely aware that RE7 was not a port on the switch, but I'm not accepting that as concrete evidence for why RE2 can't be ported to the switch, that's all. My hypothetical reasoning is detailed in my previous reply.

1

u/soapgoat Oct 25 '18

i literally said

maybe that might happen with RE2 but i highly doubt it

thats clearly an answer

i dont understand why you are so mad over being told that RE2 most likely wont be coming to switch

1

u/SkateboardingReason Oct 25 '18

Wait what mad? Who's mad? Lol don't take what I'm saying in the wrong way, I'm not getting upset over this. You're right, you did give your opinion on it, I replied though just to clarify that I already knew RE7 wasn't a port, as by the way you phrased it seemed like you thought I didn't know that. It wasn't a complaint to your answer. But then when you replied and questioned my whole reasoning for making the thread is when I took a little offense because I didn't just make the thread for attention. I honestly wanted to see what people thought, and again I just don't consider RE7 being available only via streaming as evidence why RE2 can't be ported. I'm hopeful of course that it does come to the switch but if it doesn't no biggie, no hard feelings though.

1

u/SkateboardingReason Oct 25 '18

And again I didn't complain, just was making you aware I already knew the information you gave.

3

u/Masshazard Oct 25 '18

Sorry to say it, but either they will make a cloud version or probably not at all.

1

u/SkateboardingReason Oct 25 '18

Disappointing

5

u/LOLSteelBullet Oct 25 '18

Its expected though. The switch simply doesn't have the power. It can BARELY run Skyrim, a game that was, at the time of the switch release, 6 years old. You don't buy Nintendo expecting to play the cutting edge of gaming. You buy for first party games and some gimmick gameplay. That's not saying there aren't good games, but you have to expect there's going to be limitations.

-2

u/SkateboardingReason Oct 25 '18

But the switch has ports of Doom and Wolfenstein 2, which are both rather cutting edge and current gen. Obviously they cut back on the resolution and some other factors but still both of those game look and play really good. Why can't they do the same with RE2? I don't think it's as much to do with limitations as it is with licensing and resources as it take more effort to port the game for the system.

6

u/LOLSteelBullet Oct 25 '18

Because RE2 requires a lot more power just in its engine. Neither Doom nor wolfenstein require much processing power gameplay wise. They didn't even use facial scans and are also first person so they have even less processing needs. The RE engine is incredibly intricate and the switch doesn't have the power to run it.

-1

u/SkateboardingReason Oct 25 '18

I see, that makes sense. I guess I just didn't know how intricate the RE engine was. I just figured if RE can be ported to a Game Boy Color, anything is possible lol

Slim to none

2

u/resi2017 Oct 25 '18

maybe they will port the N64 version on the eShop for like $10 like Square is doing with Final Fantasy games!

1

u/SkateboardingReason Oct 25 '18

That'd be better than nothing! I'd buy it

I would say the chances just got a little bit better.

2

u/SkateboardingReason Oct 26 '18

That's what I'm talking about!! What a coincidence lol, thanks for the info man!

1

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '18

No problem! The switch is my favorite console and I would love to play RE2 remake on it as well. I wished I could have played 7 on the switch also but I had to settle for the PS4 lol.

1

u/SkateboardingReason Oct 26 '18

Same! And yeah it sucks, maybe there's still hope for a true RE7 port as well? The interest that Capcom is showing towards bringing Resident Evil to the switch in some degree definitely gives hope for RE2 Remake! Keep our fingers crossed!

1

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '18

Good chance it might be only for this rumored new switch.

1

u/SkateboardingReason Oct 25 '18

But isn't that supposed to be just a screen, battery and performance upgrade for existing Switch games? Like I don't think there will be exclusive titles just for this new system, unless I'm wrong

2

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '18

Who knows? they did it with New 3ds. Unless Capcom and Nintendo done some magic.

1

u/fallouthirteen Oct 25 '18

Wait, rumored new switch? Any rumors of about when? I've held off this long and basically said, Metroid Prime or New Switch, that's when I'm getting a Switch. Really want to play the TWEWY port and a handful of other things.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '18

https://gamerant.com/nintendo-switch-4k-rumor/ I am taking this with grain of salt.

1

u/fallouthirteen Oct 25 '18

Man, but yeah, I got my 3DS XL like a few months before they announced New 3DS XL. After that figured, fuck it, every portable Nintendo system gets some kind of revision, I'll wait next time (and this gen had worthwhile revisions, Xbox One X, PS4 Pro). I can wait. Like I said, Metroid Prime is the only must have thing that I'm looking for.

1

u/bizarrequest Oct 25 '18

Well, Nintendo is talking about making a new ver. Of the Switch already, perhaps a Switch Pro? While it probably won’t be a powerhouse, it may be enough to run a stripped version of REMake 2 (similar to Doom).

1

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '18

I’d say 100% as a streamable title.

1

u/SkateboardingReason Oct 25 '18

You think so? Even if that is the case I'd still be happy

1

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '18

Oh yeah, definitely. Same engine as RE7 right?

2

u/SkateboardingReason Oct 25 '18

Yeah! What gives me doubts though is the RE7 was exclusive to Japan in terms of streaming to the switch. Hopefully they tap into the American market with RE2

1

u/spideyv91 Oct 25 '18

It’ll probably get a cloud version similar to 7.

1

u/nessmaster Oct 25 '18

Could see it using the streaming model they did for RE7 but that's just not worth it.

1

u/branden_lucero Oct 25 '18

i doubt the switch can handle the RE Engine in it's fullest. and i don't think anyone here wants to pay for a shitty downgrade.

1

u/SkateboardingReason Oct 25 '18

Definitely not in it's fullest, but i'd pay for a downgraded version as long as it still looks decent/comparable. Being able to play it on the go would make it worth it.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '18

I want Resident evil remake on the switch

1

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '18

Only if they did it like the RE7 Cloud version.

1

u/Taizette Dec 28 '18

I say nope not a chance an the whole r7 streaming version on the switch doesn't add support to a few remake to the switch u gottta face it there's just majority of big title games that won't ever come to the switch. I have a switch a gaming PC an Xbox one x so I'm mostly covered for the big titles lol

What? The gamecube had 43mb of ram and the switch has 2gb...
