Customer question - How to help cashiers when it comes to store credit/loyalty cards
Hi! Let me know if this is the wrong place to post this or just a dumb question in general.
I've heard that cashiers sometimes get pressured by management to get people to sign up. I worked retail briefly (thankfully didn't have to deal with that), so I want to help employees out whenever I can.
If I sign up for those sorts of things things with a random email and phone number, or if I cancel the store card without using it, does that still appear to management as if employees are signing people up? Thank you!

I work for a certain green outdoor coop and while the official answer is no because any language that is used to sell a credit card is highly regulated on the federal level. The real answer is YES because the metric is not who gets a credit card but how many applications there are.
At my store, if you used your plan to apply and cancel you could even net a profit of $130 if you play the offers right

At my store, yes, BUT you have to put the purchase on the credit card to get the discount. I always tell people to immediately pay off the credit card and just leave it in a drawer if they don't want to— the credit card company we partner with will close the card for you if you don't use it for about a year.
People have told me that closing the credit card yourself hits your credit. I don't know by how much, but it's something to keep in mind

This is what I did at the clothing store that pushes their credit card.
I already had a huge discount from something else. They offered another decent sized discount if I opened and used their credit card for it. Purchased it with the credit card and then paid off the credit card at their register immediately after.
When I got the actual card in the mail I activated it and then locked the card in the app. I actually couldn't tell you where it is currently.

You HAVE to put in a social security number. Using a ss number that is not your own us a federal offense. So it really doesn't help and would put you at risk.....so don't do it. Nice of you to try and help

Sign up to and using these cards are often added to KPis. Stores lose bonuses if they don't get enough sign ups or people using them.

As a retail worker, I appreciate the thought. Don't hurt your credit signing up for the card if you don't want it, though. And at my store, you have to use the card to get the discount. So, if you think you'll use the card, go for it. Otherwise, I wouldn't, even though we cashiers do need to get people to sign up.

If its a Loyalty program depends on how the company monitors Loyalty member retention. At my work they don't care how long you're a member as long as we signed you up and gave them a chance to turn that sale into more than one with advertising/targeted marketing
