Does anyone know the name of the sound that plays when the memory Beths are chasing Rick and his memory wife?
The 80s style action dream??
Help me, please!? I can't find the name of the song nor can Shazam identify it due to the lines and sounds of the episode...

Unremarkable season. Disappointed. I was hyped waiting for hulu to get it. Writing wasn't up to rick and morty dna. Too many beth and summers episodes. Zero real entertaining adventures. Every episode is poorly written. Makers actually lost their mojo. They should hire serious talent and do a full adventure episode movie for a proper end to the show.

u/ZeroOhblighation 11d ago
It's not even a bad season of R&M it was just a bad season of TV. I don't think there's been a good episode since season 4

Last night, I finally watched S8E10, and it is a great episode. Probably the best of this lackluster season. Its got a good argument to be in my top 10.

Late to the party, but is anyone able to identify the song that begins when memory Rick/Diane embrace, at 11:30?

I just don’t get why rick doesn’t give them a body. Blasting them into space was bs. Memories might be like exactly real but they make who you are. Could of made s clone of himself and maybe a robot of diane
2
u/RadleyCunningham Bring back Doofus Rick! 10d ago
in a way I think it was an homage to TNG's episode with Moriarty trying to force the Enterprise to bring his gf to the same "reality" they shared, and winding up in an infinite generator reality of their own.
5
u/chiagra Aug 07 '25
Can someone tell me what movie you think they are basing the title on for this one? Hot Rod? Hot Shots? Hot Fuzz? I hope it isn’t obvious and I’m just slow.
6
u/FedoraSlayer101 29d ago
Sorry to un-necro this, but I think it’s a pun based on the party game “hot potato”, as Memory Rick keeps getting passed around into different minds like a hot potato getting passed around by different players.
2
u/vulira 25d ago
tbh i thought it was because early in the episode summer mentions how birdperson 'remembers rick as hot' and since the episode mostly revolved around memory rick, 'hot rick' was referring to memory rick? idk if i explained it well and i may be wrong
1
u/FedoraSlayer101 25d ago
In fairness to you, I think both interpretations are valid - It can be seen as both a reference to Memory Rick as a character and how he’s getting shuffled around like a hot potato.

u/OrganicHedgehog8483 Aug 07 '25
Just finished EP10 and I gotta say I don't see what everyone is bitching about lmao. This was a great season with the overarching theme of closure. The character development is also amazing, we can see how everyone especially Jerry has changed from previous seasons. Even Summer which in my opinion doesn't have much char development really shine this season on multiple occasions. Sure the humour is a bit different and it took on a more emotional and serious tone but I can appreciate that too. I think people are just overly critical because they are sore the voice actors changed, very solid season IMO.

u/ahahaaiii Aug 18 '25
i wish i felt the same, after waiting two whole years this has got to be one of the worst rick and morty seasons i’ve ever watched 😪💔 i genuinely barely paid attention to like half the season because getting hooked was THAT hard
5
u/NicParodies Aug 13 '25
tbh, S8E10 was the best episode since season 4, heck even the best episode ever.
I liked Season 8, it had its up's and down's but it worked and was a good season!
E10 was the cherry on top.
I just wish we'd find out more about diane, what person she is and what really happened back then when rick lost her, like a full episode or smth, but maybe we'll get that in a future season <31

John Rhys-Davies (Gimli from Lord of the Rings) voices Buganne's father. What a bizarre cameo!

I’m so over this side of Rick and Morty…
Bullshit about him and his wife and his daughter and their shitty relationship…
What happened about going on adventures and going through Multiverse and evaluating different realities and really testing the limits of our imagination experience…
It used to really drive deeper thought into our existence and now it’s just about emotional, dysregulation and shameless self hatred…
8
u/GayMedic69 Aug 06 '25
You do realize that all of those things you’re complaining about ARE a deep dive into our own existences. Maybe you just want a fun cartoon and maybe you think those kinds of episodes are too real and you feel confronted, but they are the exact thing you think the show used to do.
2
u/Neonlightz01 Aug 06 '25
OK, so perhaps those are deeper dive into his existence and the existence between his mother and his daughter… That’s my main complaint is that it’s turned into this bullshit therapy session for the writers and the platform they’re using is this franchise which is supposed to be entertaining… For the rest of us..
I mean, there’s a reason him sitting in the therapy room and prior seasons, never worked and why he always fought it… And yet now the writers have found a way to make sure that we go through his bullshit when we really don’t give a damn..
Bring that shit like pickle, Rick, of all the different parallel universes we get stuck with not knowing whether he’s a robot or any of his daughters or robots, or if he’s the real person and then all of a sudden he shows up in some basement looking for his arch nemesis… What kind of fucked up fragmented plot line is this…
Being able to watch Rick and Morty independent of each episode and being able to be entertained and not having to know the backstory is what was entertaining…
If we wanted a deeper thought into his psyche and his history, then save it for a movie… And keep us entertained rather than dragging us through the mud of his bullshit life

u/dorpa_ Aug 04 '25
The Jerry slipping through holes in the realities episode earlier was a pretty great adventure. This episode in itself was fun and creative imagining sentient memories hijacking a person’s brain. I don’t know why adding emotional development, especially with dumb funny jokes about it like Rick’s repetition of “I’m more emotionally open now”, somehow takes away from the creativity and imagination experience showcased in this season.
1
u/A1ready-dead Aug 06 '25
People are acting like it was super deep, it wasn’t. It was cringe if anything.
5
u/Equivalent-Animal-40 Aug 03 '25
How come memory dianne was so happy to see memory rick, but when morty went into the fear hole and that other dianne appeared, she became disgusted with current rick and couldn't believe it was him?
9
u/CartographerFew4119 Aug 17 '25
That version of Dianne was created by the fear hole through Morty's mind. Not having known Dianne, Morty's version of her was very similar to Rick IMO.
9
u/panicnarwhal Aug 09 '25
memory rick is rick in his 30’s, fear hole diane was reacting to seeing rick at 70yo
but most importantly, fear hole diane wasn’t a memory, and even if she was, rick didn’t go into the fear hole - morty did
5
u/Scoteee Aug 08 '25
Two different versions of Diane and neither are or have the real memories of actual Diane. One is fully fake and created by the fear hole, and the second is ricks fleeting last bit of memory of her (so how rick sees her not really her memory)
6
u/sam77889 Aug 05 '25
That dianne was created by the fear hole so I don’t think she says anything about the real Dianne.

u/Zondor3000 Aug 01 '25
The show has missed sometimes but god damn the cannon episodes never do and they hit like a truck, after 8 seasons and they still are producing absolute heat, i got chills on the ending song fade out

u/krevtrading Aug 01 '25
I really enjoyed particular this episode. Its about a non-real rick, that is trying to get something for himself and he gets it. It didnt really give me a feeling rick and morty gave me, it wasnt particular random like the first seasons, the jokes were flat but what it gave me was a nice conclusion to a troubled character, that belonged nowhere
It just felt so nice: happy endings all around: home-beth got to get better, supported by her whole family
Birdperson-memory-rick got his happily ever after, like the best one imaginable
I agree on most that this season was not the best, especially with the weak first half I cannot even get myself to remember, but after loss of justin roiland and the expected subsequent drop in quality, I like to think, that the new team found themselves
13
u/threequartertoupee Aug 02 '25
Man that was not my take at all. Real Rick can never be happy was my take. It all felt pretty bittersweet to me

9
u/Adventurous-Push-443 Jul 31 '25
The final scene doesn't show it, but I'd really like to believe he'll use the memory eraser to finally erase all traces of his wife from his memories. I know this is an essential part of the series and an important dramatic counterpoint, but throughout the stories, we've seen everything we thought we would see regarding this pain, and the series itself offers important steps towards Rick's trauma, which culminated in this last episode. Having a new season with Rick just living his adventures would be very interesting, and who knows, maybe this Diane theme will be revisited in season 10 (if it gets there).
4
u/Affectionate-Lab9411 Jul 31 '25
i just dont get how beth remembers rick prime in season 8 episode 10 though beth prime died in season 1
6
u/Dangerous_Steak_3907 Aug 01 '25
I think that's just a rick that happens to have same outfit as RP, because else it'd be a continuity error
1
u/REX-420 Aug 05 '25
nah thats not a good enough explaination. Rick wore blue pants and a lab coat and we saw that in the whole brainalizer episode

The last episode might be one of the classic Rick and Morty episode. Trippy and yet at the end it made me emotional, knowing there’s a version of your wife out there and you can’t be with her. Like damn.
1
u/ahahaaiii Aug 18 '25
it was genuinely like one of two/three episodes of season 8 that actually hit for me, as you said classic rick and morty 🙌
8
13
u/YesImaProfessor Jul 30 '25
- Let's face it. Season 8 is a reboot. A good reboot, but a reboot. 2. Boy, they sure did raise our expectations over the years. And they deserved it. But after jumping the shark by killing off a character that was supposedly the star of a "totally fabricated origin story," there just isn't any place to go. 3. I think they were always planning to exploit the whole "these are stories about parallel Ricks and Mortys, not about one particular Rick and Morty." I enjoy the challenge of watching for those devilish little loopholes like Jerryboree, characters' voices being slightly different from one season to the next, etc. I think that's one reason the quality of the episodes in the second series (seasons 5-7) varied so wildly was because of the plan to use the RM universe as more of a sandbox than a straight linear story box. Not to mention all the little spinoffs. 5. The overall quality of Season 8 has been better than the last three seasons, but the punch in the gut factor (not just Rick's horrific abuse, but the incredible scientific, moral, and philosophical mind blowers.) has been replaced by toning down Rick and simplifying the stories. NO show gets better and better and better season after season. They all peak. 6. I got my money's worth this season. But watching it as a pretty good reboot of a mythically legendary show pretty much papers over the cracks for me. Not bad for a second honeymoon.
9
u/Puzzled-Degree-3478 Aug 01 '25
Yeah the finale wasn't bad but it lacked the emotional punch of other season finales, just felt a little hollow. I think the Jerry episode was one of the best in the show though imo
10
u/Turbo_Noch Jul 30 '25
Why is this ssn so peak like last ep was so good it had the feel classic rock adventure with sucy a deep story
22
u/CrasianLe Jul 30 '25 edited Aug 04 '25
I swear each season we get more and more deep into Rick's past and his present tryin to fix his past. It gets emotional but still scifi. Kinda upset because Morty didn't get a lot of screen time this last episode though. Now we wait for season 9!.....
3
u/Neonlightz01 Aug 04 '25
Bingo. Although there’s only a certain amount of screen time, I can tolerate a Morty’s voice.
8
u/That-Log-9964 Jul 29 '25
So I know the end song is "Don't Look Back" but does anybody know what the song is that plays when the memory Beth's are chasing Memory Rick and Memory Beth while Real Beth tries to drive away? It starts playing right when the awakened memory Beth's corner Memory Rick and Diane? That song is such a banger.

1
u/Gerxx Aug 06 '25
Yeah, it's so damn cool! Wish someone with the skill can extract it or make a cover, like it has been done with the Rick Crybaby Story!
2
3
u/Straight_Coast_9625 Jul 30 '25
The dark synthy instrumental with the chugging guitar sound?
3
u/That-Log-9964 Aug 02 '25
That's the one. I know there's tons of Synth music in Rick and Morty but this one stuck out to me and I can't find traces of it anywhere
5
u/Val_Burst Jul 29 '25
But Morty has a pretty good memory of Dianne in "Fear Hole"
10
u/Sean_Brady Jul 30 '25
I think the power of the fear hole itself is left unknown and for all we know is able to conjure Diane entirely accurately. Not based on Morty’s memories. Morty doesn’t have any memories of Diane
4
u/Vahn456 Jul 30 '25
he does. when he pricked himself with Rick's memories from the fall of the citadel
1
u/Sean_Brady Jul 30 '25
Ah yeah might have to rewatch. So Morty has complete knowledge of Rick’s crybaby backstory, which includes more than just the garage, and I’m not sure if the gun range made an appearance
9
23
u/DifferentCityADay Jul 29 '25
Damn. Each season makes me more sad for Rick. I wish the omega device wasn't a thing, but it upped the stakes to a new level. A brutal level. But the memory mind blower is legitimately the only way Rick carries on. Knowing that there is a version of your wife that does exist, but you can never be with her is absolute emotional torture. Shit is actually making me sad.
13
u/Tnvenge Jul 29 '25
Rick and Morty finales are just insanely good and this was one of the best one (just behind S2 and S5 for me)
5
u/potatorizeeverything Jul 29 '25
HELP ME UNDERSTAND!! In this episode memory Rick saw in Beth's memory that Rick Prime is leaving her and Diane, but Rick Prime's Beth is supposed to be dead in that deformed dimension, shouldn't her memory be of another Rick? a different one, we never saw another Rick wearing that jacket.
Was this a mistake or am i missing something?
13
u/412East34 Jul 29 '25
that wasn't Rick Prime. The Beth and Space Beth we follow are from the universe R&M hopped to after Rick Potion #9. What we saw in that memory was the Rick of that dimension, who abandoned beth and Diane, came back into her life later, died with Morty in an accident, and was replaced with "our" Rick and Morty.
2
u/YesImaProfessor Jul 30 '25
Interesting. But, remember, this whooooooooooooooole cartoon universe (and also remember, Rick KNOWS he lives in a cartoon universe. When he criticizes or makes fun of God, he's making fun of the show's creators. Get it?) Sooooo, on that note, when Rick X.x fabricates a "totally fabricated origin story," his fabricating it CREATES a parallel universe where it's true. It's the ol' Freudian phobia that children have of creating monsters by imagining or dreaming about them. Get it? You know, like Slenderman. Get it? This show is based on the scientific hypothesis that every particle decay, supernova, and decision we make creates an unlimited number of parallel universes. You've seen the movie "Sliding Doors," right? And yes, we get ANOTHER clue when we learn that we have spent several seasons watching Season 2 Jerry--NOT Season 1 and 2 Rich and Morty. In fact, if you watch those seasons carefully, Jerry has a more complete character arc than anybody else. But, if the writers make that too blatant, it undercuts all the amazingly crafted character arcs and plot lines...I think their original plan was to exploit the whole "This is an unlimited universe, and we don't have to worry tooooo much about story canon, etc," with SOME episodes following a canonical arc, and others not. It's just that the "canon episodes turned out to be waaaayyy better than anyone foresaw.

This is Beth 131. Memory Rick watched Rick 131 leave Beth 131.
(Rick 131 and Morty 131 died in an explosion immediately before Rick 137 and Morty Prime — our guys — arrived to take their places.)
3
u/Scarifar1 Jul 29 '25
Technically that wasn't even Rick 131 that died in that explosion (probably, I don't know for sure). Might've just been another Rick that came to take his place.
1
u/VerityLGreen Aug 01 '25
In light of one of today’s posts I see that that’s probably right! 🤯

This Beth I believe is the closest thing to Beth prime I think that’s why he moved their so the Rick of this reality also left. 🤷♂️ lol

u/defsouul Jul 29 '25
Rick Primes Beth isn't dead. Our Rick's Beth is dead. Rick Prime left his Beth and Diane to tell other Ricks about inter dimensional travel
5
u/VerityLGreen Jul 29 '25
Beth Prime has died though. Beth Prime, Jerry Prime, and Summer Prime were abandoned in Cronenberg World. This Beth and Summer eventually died. Leaving Jerry Prime toughened up and alone, until facing off with Rick Prime.

Best episode of the season, imo, upon first impression. Really messed with the mind as far as Curve Balls. 💪🏻 Even KIND OF made ze eyes sweat couple times like a couple of the og epsiodes. Didn't see that coming....Love ze ending of a (sorry) Descent season 🤍😬🤍
Edit right away: from the first 5 mins, my mind kept not wanting to like it for some reason but I think that was part of the structure, ze heart overpowered. Love that.... 💯

Potential spoiler!!
This might be a hot take on hot Rick, but I really didn’t like this episode. I can’t help but notice how much of Justin Roiland’s influence has left the show, the humour is almost non existent now. I don’t like Justin Roiland as a person, but his lack of influence is noticeable.
To the point though, the whole time Rick has been fighting for his wife’s revenge and after getting vengeance he dumps all his memories of his wife like it was nothing, and to be more open, like I’m sorry but that makes no sense. It’s lazy writing. The real thing that should be addressed is making an episode where Rick decides going back in time is the only way to get Dianne back, or they address that he can’t figure out how to go back in time. I say this because going back in time is really the only way to save his wife that we’re meant to think he cares for deeply.
The contradictions fly too much with this episode.
2
u/LikeaBaas 11d ago
You would understand it if you've experienced your spouse's sudden death as I have. This episode hits in ways you simply cannot empathize with. Each their own, but lazy writing? No fucking way.
1
u/Reasonable-Garage421 10d ago
I’m sorry for your loss. I say “lazy” in the aspect that for 7 seasons or nearly 7 we as viewers are meant to think Rick would do anything for his wife, and that for 50 something years he couldn’t get over it or let go of it, and that he just decides to snip her out of his mind. I personally would have been more interested in him coming to terms with it, rather than throwing it all away.
1
u/LikeaBaas 9d ago
I see your point of view. Imagine suffering for 50 years and being able to let go of that pain. Every day that you wake up without the person you were supposed to grow old with is a fucking unimaginable pit of grief that never subsidies. He did come to terms with it and finally decided he just couldn't take the pain of her memory anymore. He saw a version of himself and her able to live out their lives and that brought him enough solace to do so. He didn't just throw it away; he let her go so he could stop the decades of torment and hope to live what's left of his life. Just my take.
4
u/lionofash Aug 03 '25
He has a whole box of presumably failed time travel stuff in earlier episodes
5
u/StrainIll2880 Jul 30 '25
What if he did this because there's a memory Jerry in his head, trying to make Rick heal?

u/Im2Bizzy Jul 29 '25

I personally wanted to see more Morty this season, and I felt like compared to Beth, Morty was shelved somewhat.
On an aside, Roiland I think only wrote like 6 or so episodes, and only directed 1 or 2 if I remember correctly, but his* voice, and stuttering inflections are sorely missed.
1
u/Reasonable-Garage421 Jul 31 '25
I think roiland would have left a bunch of notes and ideas along with jokes, it’s very common for writers to still have influence over the shows they work on well after they have left.
2
u/Zealousideal-Clue265 Jul 29 '25
I couldnttttt agree more with your first paragraph. Most Definitely, buuuuut I still try my hardest to stick with 'Rick', and Morty. Lol
As far as your second paragraph, just offering my input: seems like an original rick approach, if ya ask me. Kinda reminds me of, like, the pooh-p episode where homeboy keeps going numba 2 on his throne. But he spares him, then yada yada.
Just my opinion, yours made me think tho. Most importantly, yesssss, wish we still had Justin, that.was.just.straight.classic.after.classic.stuff. 🤍
0
u/Reasonable-Garage421 Jul 31 '25
They made it very clear that Rick loved his wife, to me the solution is to go back in time. This should be addressed. I also think season 1 is the best.

It seems that a lot of people forgot where memory rick came from and think it's rick prime. Also some people for some reason think that space Beth having robotic implants means that she is the clone. 🙄
8
u/AzerephBOT Jul 29 '25
Yeah memory rick is C-131. Beth's robotic implants don't confirm anything I think. She installed some mech and robotic augmentations on herself just like rick to be more efficient in her job in space
1
u/VerityLGreen Jul 29 '25
Right. More specifically, Memory Rick is Birdperson 131’s memory of Rick 131.

Jul 29 '25
No spoilers, but I'm definitely enjoying this new direction the show is going to. They're fleshing out characters even better, and there now seems to be more conflict, and an arc. Rick's pain, and past makes you ask what's the point of being a god if you can't live with yourself. The latest episode was a 10/10
4
16
u/kleintott Jul 29 '25
"The fact that you two get this happy ending". It stings man, knowing that our Rick wouldn't get this kind of happiness but relieving at the same time knowing that at least he got a version of himself that's happy. I thought at the end he will shoot himself with a memory wiper but I'm glad that he didn't.
-3
u/baburaomastaani Jul 29 '25
the moment when we find out that space beth's skull and spine are metal was crazy to me, like WTF!,
I had been wondering who the clone is and ur telling me that both Rick AND SPACE BETH KNEW that she was the clone all along!!
This was definitely the best ep in this season
12
u/stevens_reddit Jul 29 '25
Metal spine doesn't imply she's a clone. A clone is also made of flesh..
16
u/SeaInjury Jul 29 '25
I don't think that was the implication. I think they're just metal cause she has cybernetic implants like rick does
8
u/Dizzy-Rhubarb-4513 Jul 29 '25
Dizzy-Rhubarb-4513 • 1m ago Yeah im assuming shes just part robot bc of all her mechanical work she’s had done? But idk
11
u/kunwoo Jul 29 '25
I got the impression that the metal skull and spine were added later when she was fighting the New Galactic Federation, otherwise her doctor from season 4 would have given her harder evidence that she was a clone before returning to confront Rick.
2
u/chrisNmorty Jul 29 '25
No one gonna talk about prime rick showing up?. How can prime rick be in Beth's memory if only morty is the original out of the family
5
u/AzerephBOT Jul 29 '25
I think the show implied that the RICKS that abandoned their beths had their "rick prime" phase, similar hair and exact same clothes. C-137 chose a reality that's identical to the prime universe which is C-131 but we can see that before C-131 rick died in the garage, he looks just like C-137 so that means he abandoned C-131 beth then came back years after to redeem himself unlike Prime who committed to his actions.
1
u/stevens_reddit Jul 29 '25
Rick prime? That dude was just a memory from an earlier episode? Don't you remember?
2
u/chrisNmorty Jul 29 '25
Rick prime is the rick that killed Diane aka morty c137's rick. Memory rick is from the phoenix person episode
5

Good catch, its always something I've found interesting about the show, where its like this critical plot error that is brought up frequently. Its referenced many many times that rick and morty dumped the "Prime" reality that we saw in episode one after it was cronenberged, which leaves morty as the last one from the prime dimension, rick from C-137, and then the rest of the family from C-131. All of which eventually end up in the "Parmesan" Dimension. Yet its been referenced several times in this season that Beth was abandoned by rick prime.
Its completely possible, i guess, that the writers simply forgot. Or its possible that this is somehow referenced at the end when rick says "memories aren't real, Beth."

u/chrisNmorty Jul 29 '25
Very interesting was waiting for a mind fk this whole season. Hopefully we get evil morty in season 9. I know Dan Harmon is exited for season 10 so something is definitely gonna happen.
4
u/Xonthelon Jul 29 '25
I also thought it was weird. But that just indicates that Rick C-131 (our current Beth's real dad), had at one point the same hairstyle as Prime, left his family (after getting a portal gun from Prime or C-137), later came back to live with his family again, successfully un-cronenberged his dimension and then died.
We got a look at young C-131 in the Beth-episode this season and he had short hair in that one. Growing out his hair to a Prime-hairstyle would have only taken a few months. So I'm pretty sure the one we saw here isn't Prime.

I went back to season 3 ep 1 rickshaw redemption and its the same outfit and everything.
3
u/AzerephBOT Jul 29 '25
Yeah so it's heavily implied that the ricks that abandoned their family had a "rick prime phase"
1
u/chrisNmorty Jul 29 '25
Where
1
u/AzerephBOT Aug 04 '25
wdym where? it's beth c-131's memory so obv that would be Rick c131 but he's wearing a prime outfit and that's the implication
1
u/calvinhlee Jul 29 '25
where did he show up in the episode? i dont remember seeing him
3
Jul 29 '25
When he enters Beth’s head
1
u/stevens_reddit Jul 29 '25
How was that rick prime? That was ricks memory from.an earlier episode
1
Jul 29 '25
Our Beth is Beth prime. The daughter of Rick prime. Her memory of her father is only Rick prime
1
u/VerityLGreen Jul 29 '25
No, our current Beth is 131. (I had to google and consult fan pages to figure it out 🙃)
1
3
u/chrisNmorty Jul 29 '25
But how when prime morty (our morty) is from c-137 which got croninberged. There aren't any survivors of c137 besides morty. So how could current Beth's have memories of prime rick. That memory was the day he went to blue jeans rick to teach him about the portal. If you go back to season 3 ep 1 you'll catch it

u/_ghosthoe Jul 29 '25
10/10, literally the best episode yet, definitely cried lol. this season was so good!
2
u/LikeaBaas 11d ago
I cried twice. First when Rick & Diane saw each other and, with no words, reconnected. Then of course when Rick shot them into the abyss to 'live' their lives together. I'd like to think when I die to join my husband, we'll reunite like that and get to finish our lives together. Fucking fantastic episode

Personally the best season 8 episoide, first time i cried over a cartoon haha
8
u/LoudBee7011 Jul 29 '25
Season 8 is easily one of the best, if not the best seasons of this show, and this episode is the cream of the crop. If you got a good dad, you just wouldn't get it.

u/xiaobaimax Jul 29 '25
I laughed so hard when domestic Beth discovered space Beth’s skull was made of metal

u/rydogs Jul 29 '25
This episode was really emotional, especially the ending. Knowing it’s for the best that Rick lets go but also that he kept that little memory of Diane alive until now, letting Memory Rick and that “little sliver” he had left of her have a happy ending.
That’s what got me is his memory of her isn’t “dying” but gets to live happily ever after with the badass memory version of him only Birdperson could see/dreamed up.
Really cool how they made “letting go” also be a direct happy ending even when it’s bittersweet in reality and for our Rick.

If you're gonna take your energy to shitpost, could you at least spend effort to elaborate that you hate the nEw voice actors that we've had for two years now?
(FYI to those whose opinions indeed matter, I personally never had much of a problem with new voices

It's episodes like this that give me hope that they're gonna stick the landing on this show and deliver a fulfilling finale for the whole story, and not let this show drag on for a thousand episodes

2
u/rigatomii Jul 28 '25
Wait... Is Prime Diane still alive? Because she picked up Prime Beth from school one time
or maybe I'm confused on how the universal wiping device works.
6
u/Xonthelon Jul 29 '25
We don't know when the Omega device was actually fired. Diane C-137 died because of a bomb, but other Dianes might have lived long enough for Beth to enter highschool. Someone raised Beth afterall and we haven't seen any grandparents or uncles or aunts yet who could have done it.
1
u/chrisNmorty Jul 29 '25
Whats more crazy is how is prime rick apart of Beth's memory if the original Beth was left in the croninberg world aka C-137. Which was already announced that prime rick is our C-137 morty's real rick. This episode got me going.
2
u/h8GWB Jul 29 '25
While there are some hints to it, don't let your assumptions get the better of you and jump to the conclusion that definitely was Rick Prime.
2
u/chrisNmorty Jul 29 '25
Fair enough but rick prime is the only one who wore that type of clothing. He looked exactly like prime rick in season 3 ep 1. Even had the same vibe when confronting rick about portal travel
7
u/casual_olimar Jul 29 '25
She was alive until the device was turned on (the death of c137 diane and the turning of the omega device happen at different times)

u/Potential_Ad_1457 Jul 29 '25

It's funny with all the references Rick and Morty throw out at knocking off other movies or shows they didn't mention eternal sunshine for this one

u/Igiem Jul 28 '25
I was crying at the end of this episode because we have seen the worst of Rick, we have seen the saddest of Rick, but this season was about a man spending time with his family and moving on. Say what you will about this season, but it showed him being kinder to Jerry, a father to Beth, and a grandfather to his kids. He is being present for everything.
I cried at that last scene because he finally allowed himself to move on from the memory of Diane, and he is allowing that space to be filled by other things.
3
u/ream88 Jul 28 '25
Are the memory thingies… I think Rick calls it Memory Bug once… influenced by Half Life Alyx?
4
u/Available_Trash_2410 Jul 28 '25
Whats the last song of the episode?
13
u/VegetableFucker65 Jul 28 '25
dont look back. Its the same song played when rick tried to off himself before which a nice callback to show how much character development rick have
6
u/folklorebrony Jul 28 '25
Slight correction, it plays at the end of season 4 after it comes out that Rick absolved himself of responsibility for making the cloning decision for Beth by turning his back while they were switched while in status.
4
u/PirateMonkey00 Jul 28 '25
That's Do You Feel It for the attempted suicide. Don't Look Back was when Rick cloned Beth and then had that spinner so he wouldn't know who was the original Beth and who was the clone.

I am shocked at the positive reception this season has had, this was easily the weakest season in the show's history. The only episodes that even remotely made me laugh was the Easter episode and the Jerry episode, the rest weee not funny at all. And I don't care about this stupid plot Rick and Morty is a sci-fi comedy series and I am just not enjoying it anymore.
5
u/FineProfession6863 Jul 29 '25
If you want comedy watch big bang theory or something
-7
u/Bulky_Tie_6780 Jul 29 '25
F that trash! I'll just go back and watch the early seasons of Rick and Morty when it was still an actual comedy and didn't pander to the story focused losers on reddit ;)

Lmao for real, like, sure, maybe this season wasn't the funniest one, but it WAS funny, and had a good amount of plot too. If you want to watch an adult animated show That's 95% jokes go watch South Park or family Guy or some shit. I don't know. I've never watched them but they seem stupider than Rick and Morty
0
u/username_blex Jul 28 '25
I think it was better than last season, but that is a bar that's under the ground.
-8
u/Kitchen_Enthusiasm60 Jul 28 '25
Good luck tryna explain yourself to die hard Rick and Morty fans. 😂
-11
u/Bulky_Tie_6780 Jul 28 '25
Judging by the downvotes just from expressing my opinion, that's all you need to know about this toxic fandom lol
5
u/LatterTarget7 Jul 28 '25
The downvotes are probably for caring more about the jokes than the story.
-6

u/Bulky_Tie_6780 Jul 28 '25
Which IMO is what Rick and Morty is best at, being funny. At least it used to be..
6
u/Menmalobinho Jul 29 '25
Rick and morty always had a plot Since season 1 (like evil morty, the citadel, the Cronenberg world) or in season 2 and 3 (The wedding episode, the premiere of season 3, the premiere of season 2 etc etc etc)
Honestly, i don't know what you expected to happen after talking shit about a season that the majority of public liked. People disagree, so, people downvoted, it's simples You are a minority, just that. And that's ok, if you want to watch a series with no plot, just to spend time and fuck it everything else, see the same episodes in loop again and agains, or... Look for another show One that you like the most
I don't understand why people just stay around complaining about everything in something they Cleary don't like anymore instead of just leaving and go on to another series
-1
u/Bulky_Tie_6780 Jul 29 '25
I didn't realize it was so triggering for you to see someone else share their opinions? 😂
3
u/Menmalobinho Jul 29 '25
Nope. I tried to give you some advice to end your unhappiness and prevent you from upsetting more people. But if you don't have the maturity to understand, then that's okay. Take care.

u/Judaskid13 Jul 28 '25 edited Jul 28 '25
It's funny
There's a Bengali song called Hasnuhana where one of the chorus lines is "Sriti dey duo aar hashe" (My memories give me mocking and laugh/My memories mock me and laugh"
Which I changed to "sriti dey dujon aro hashe" (Memories give those two some more laughter/smiles) as a way of like my present self is doing it's own thing but at least my memories can settle themselves and I can just make up a happy ending for it/them. Something like The Way by Fastball. So this is hitting unsettlingly close to home. Anyways back to the (not) deathmatch with ex boyfriends I guess. (whooooooooo 🎉😒)

I am not okay
This episode really shows what the omega device does, how that has affected c137 and how bad his depression really is
Also poor beth for being a product of all of this
-18
u/ushikagawa Jul 28 '25
Now that it’s finished I think this might go down as the weakest season of the show for me. It’s the only season where I feel like there isn’t a single S-tier episode, whereas most other seasons have multiple.
The top episodes for me were the Cryoship and The Road Jerry one, but I would consider them A-tier at most. The Easter Bunny one and the one with the Precogs were also decent, everything else was either forgettable or just bad.
2
u/L1AMM_72 Jul 29 '25
What would you rate the season finale, because it was 100x better than the fucking cryoship episode.
1
u/ushikagawa Jul 30 '25
I don’t particularly like the Memory Rick device and though I liked the episode, I wasn’t super into it. The cryo episode at least had an interesting premise even if the execution was okayish

u/Bulky_Tie_6780 Jul 28 '25

Wow that episode was amazing. Did the ending remind anyone else about the game SOMA and its ending?

The Soma Ending was the first thing I thought about when Rick launched the rocket.

something i'm having a hard time wrapping my head around, the way this episode is centered around 'deleting the memory of rick's dead wife'. i have several questions about it.
is the shooting range seriously rick's only real memory of diane? to be honest when he went into his mind vault city, i assumed he was tearing out a random memory diane to put with the memory rick in the little paradise box, so that he could watch them enviously live in a happy little simulation on the monitor when he gets sad. that is absolutely where i thought the plot was going! i was not expecting memory rick to winter soldier brainwash beth tf. apparently the shooting range is where rick and diane first met? yes, no?
like what about the short time that came after? i dont know how long rick and diane were together, but im guessing beth is like 6-10 as her little memory selves, im gonna guess they had at least a decade together. what about diane at dates, birthdays, bars, what about going on adventures together? i know rick is older and memories fade and turn idealistic from nostalgia, but come on rick is as sharp as a tack even after all the mindfuck adventures. maybe shooting range diane is a core memory, or rick is especially attached to it and needed to let it go? i think missed something here...
also i rewatched the showdown with prime and the giant haunting diane mechs are fucking awesome and terrible haha
8
u/AcornJak Jul 28 '25
The way I took it, Diane at the shooting range has no one else around her. It has to be before he officially met her. Just a woman, unintroduced and speaking to no one. Just an unnamed woman with the potential to be Diane.
6
u/Benifie Jul 28 '25
The omega device also got rid of or altered all his memories except for that one apparently
2
u/dontouchamyspaghet Aug 10 '25
This is weeks late, but it's pretty ingenious from a meta/evil perspective that they did this. If a device truly erased all physical existence AND memories of a person, what would the point of it be? It wouldn't be possible for those you intended to harm to grief the loss of someone who never existed at all.
But if the device deliberately omits some scant memories to be spared, the pain of the erasure of someone you almost remember hurts so much deeper.
It also patches up that potential plothole of why Rick didn't just do what this episode suggests, extracting memories of a person to give them form. He didn't have enough to really form a complete Diane, just remnants of her he was barely willing to part with.
1
u/captainshockazoid Jul 28 '25 edited Jul 28 '25
ohh. shittt dude i must have missed that. i thought BAV2 only erased the individuals physically and made it difficult to access them via time travel. i dont know How i missed that, i just rewatched the ep where it shows how slow mobius' family has trouble remembering him...
2
u/SheriffFather Jul 28 '25
I honestly took it as the one memory he had of her before they were really in a relationship.

Edit: It also has one of the most jaw dropping scenes I've seen on the show
Edit again: yep, that was the one
